'Not teleporting, not teleporting.' Sati muttered, as she walked the long way from hers to Quinn's house. It was tempting to take a short cut, and to risk using her power, but the lancing head pain from doing so wasn't worth the time saved.
Eventually she arrived, patting at her hair, adjusting her clothes and then laughed at herself quietly. It wasn't as if her daughter would remember her; she doubted so at any rate. She was just nervous, more so than she'd been for a long time, and with a dry mouth she knocked on the door of Quinn's house, hoping that on this occasion she had timed her visit right.
After knocking she stepped back one pace, the fingers of her hands laced together in front of her.

"Addie... Addie, no. No, Addie." Quinn looked up as she heard a knock at the front door. Who could that be? she wondered, then said aloud, "Addie. Please take your snails out of the toilet. I don't want to have to tell you again." She ducked out of the bathroom, checking over her shoulder and muttering to herself.
"Addie, I'm not kidding this time..." she admonished as she opened the door. A weary smile crossed her face as she took in Sati and she laughed awkwardly. "Toddlers," she said conspiratorially and she motioned for Sati to come in.

Sati heard the noises from within before the door opened and she smiled at Quinn, relieved that the Guardian was in. Her eyes widened and she looked around for Addie as she ushered in, before speaking to Quinn.
'She's..Addie's a toddler?' she asked, gnawing at her lip. You will not cry, the poor woman probably gets enough of that from your daughter. You will be happy and plaster a damn smile on your face! she scolded herself, and forced a smile.
'Is she crawling?'

Addie answered that question herself by toddling into the room, stark naked. She squealed at Sati and hurried over to her, grabbing onto her skirts with her wet hands and blowing raspberries into the fabric. "Hi, you!" she chimed, beaming up at her, before wandering away back towards the bathroom.
Quinn's hand rubbed the back of her neck furiously. That's toilet water. That is so toilet water. Oh God. All she said out loud was, "Uh... well... She kinda skipped that step."

No crying remember!
Sati almost melted into a puddle of proud mummy goo when Adelaide came out of the bathroom, right over and grabbed at her sari.
'..hi you.' she echoed, crouching down to hug her but Addie was away again, and she got a view of a little dark bottom wobbling off back into the bathroom.
'Walking? She's walking.' She pressed a hand to her mouth and gathered herself a bit, before looking up at Quinn. 'So I see.' she smiled through the happy tears that were rimming her eyes and looked back at where the toddler had gone.
'Addie?' she called softly.

Addie took a moment to respond, toddler babble and splashes all that could be discerned. Just when Quinn was about to go get her, Addie came tromping across the floor, covered in toilet water and slimy from the six snails she'd stuck to herself in various places. She went right back up to Sati, smiled and announced, "'NAIL!"

Sati settled herself on the floor, head tilted slightly as she listened to the sounds from the bathroom with an amused expression on her face.
'She's quite the character already.' she said, glancing up at Quinn again before footsteps drew her gaze back down. She tried not to laugh as the little girl approached, wearing her shelled decorations and looking less clean than she had before.
'Yes, you have snails.' Sati nodded. 'You have snails stuck all over you. Snails have names?'

Quinn took her place on the floor by Sati, leaning back against the wall. "Character. Yeah. That's one word for it." She smiled as she said it, obviously enjoying her charge.
Addie cocked her head to the side, much like her mother, thinking about what Sati had asked. Realization dawning on her, she pointed out each snail in turn. The one on her tummy she called 'limy, her right arm held Tal and Bubbo, on her left foot rode Ge-go, Fiwip was on her tail and Gloo had a place of honor on her head.
Quinn translated quietly, "Slimy, Talaf, Bubble, Gregor, Phillip and Gloo."
Addie spun around carefully, making sure Sati got a good look at all her friends.

Quinn was lucky, beyond lucky, but Sati didn't voice her thoughts. It was not her fault that Fa'e needed a Guardian to survive, and the woman was doing well, Addie was obviously flourishing under her care. And given how she was feeling really, deep inside, over another failed relationship it was good that her daughter wasn't living with her. But it still hurt.
'Oh you got Gloo back!' she smiled, glad that her daughters best snail bet had been found again.
'They are all lovely, very nice snails.' she held her hands out to Adelaide, hoping the girl would come forwards for a hug as she hadn't held her properly since she'd given her to Quinn.

"Oh yes. Gloo came back. He was in a soo," Adelaide answered, toddling over to the coffee table. She gently placed each snail inside the jar on the table and then peered down to look at them, making sure they were arranged to her satisfaction.
When she turned back around, she saw Sati's arms open and with a heroic squeal, she charged forward, knees high in that toddler run, to fling herself into Sati's arms. Addie liked hugs.
Quinn chuckled, and asked, "Addie. This is Sati. Do you remember Sati? Do you remember how I told you that Sati made you so you could come and live with me?"
Addie rubbed her face in Sati's chest, inhaling her scent. Then, she peered through Sati's hair at Quinn and replied, "Oh yes. Sati-momma nice." And she settled herself in to Sati's lap.

'A 'soo''?' Sati looked over at Quinn for a translation, but not for long as her eyes inevitably went back to Addie, unwilling to look away for long in case she missed anything that she did whilst she was visiting.
She almost squealed with delight in return, her heart giving a twang as her daughter rushed at her and she wrapped her arms tight around Addie, though not so tight that she was squishing the toddler. She didn't care about the damp, nor the snail slime, she just revelled in the holding and the hugging. Sati buried her nose in the mop of Addie's hair, the strands tickling her skin and shut her eyes for a moment. This was happiness. Pure and simple.
'I'm nice huh?' she said after a while, breaking the contented silence with her quiet words. Sati tickled her fingers lightly along Addie's side.
'Are you ticklish little one?' she asked, glancing over at Quinn with a contented smile.

"A shoe," Quinn translated. "The little bugger was in one of my shoes in the back of the closet. I still haven't forgiven him."
As Sati traced her fingers over Addie's dark flesh, Quinn hid a mischievous smile behind her hand. The lady had no idea what she had just gotten her self into.
Addie writhed and kicked and laughed and laughed and laughed, gasping out, "No. Hahahaha. No. Hahaha. More!"

'Quite the adventurer for a snail.' Sati commented as her fingers wiggled over Addie, tickling the little girl some more.
'No? I'll stop then..' she let her fingers rest for a moment on the toddler's belly, before making them dance along her sides some more, wanting to hear her daughter laugh again as it made her smile.

Quinn chuckled as Addie writhed, happy that the girl and her mother could have this time to bond. Addie had never reacted adversely to not living with her parent's, but Quinn figured it was just because she never knew any different. She had to imagine that it was difficult for Sati, being separated from her child like this.
For her part, Adelaide giggled and chuckled and laughed and guffawed, rolling around in Sati's lap. She would even position herself occasionally, so she would get her favorite places tickled. Places like under her chin and along the length of her stubby tail.

Sati grinned, her fingers obliging moving to where the little girl seemed to like it the best, utterly charmed with her daughter's antics. Of course this would all make the eventual end of the visit extra hard, but she was just happy to see that Addie was growing well under Quinn's care. It quelled some of misgivings she'd had.
'Enough, enough.' Sati laughed, stilling her fingers. 'You've got more energy than me,' she laid a kiss on top of Addie's head. She looked over at Quinn.
'Would it be okay if I took Addie out for a day sometime soon?'
