 The Brotherhood had been quiet recently. With no events planned and the alpha practically inaccessible (though that was his decision, Rummy thought, and one that shouldn't be questioned), the males grew stagnant. Bored. Even Rummy was running out of things to find for people to do, and that meant he was running out of things to do, for his unofficial job in the pack was making sure the gammas were occupied. The problem, he decided, was that there weren't enough pups. Last year's were young adults now, and it wasn't yet time in the whelping season for new blood to be gathered. All the pups were still suckling from their mothers... the only thing those females were useful for.
The big red wolf lay above the empty puppy den, his breath softly moving the veil over his face. The pack needed new life, figuratively as much as literally. Heaven forbid wolves start leaving to find excitement. There were only so many hunting raids a pack could take.

 Okeetee had been growing quickly.
The tubby, young pup was now a sturdy, lean, and adept adolescent. He still had much to learn, as far as life went, but his build was large and he surely would of been able to make something of himself if he displayed a little more confidence.
Yet there was something holding him back. A fear was within him, one that would not leave regardless of how often he tried to distract himself. Blood and death were common things with the Brotherhood and the violence he had first witnessed, the night he had been carried away with his brother and two others, haunted nearly every thought and every dream...
His poor, dear sister. The memories seemed so far away, so fuzzy, so hard to reach. Often times he found himself thinking it had all been some sort of fictitious dream. He had no sister... Right?
The brown hued youngster moved uneasily, his tail low, through the pack grounds. All seemed to be growing restless, himself included.

Rummy's ears perked upward as he sensed the approach of another wolf. Many of the brothers, when there was no pack business to attend to, scattered across the land, rarely coming to the dens unless the weather was terrible. It was in many of their natures, as males, to be loners, even as they were bound inextricably by the symbol of the pack they all wore.
Though the brown wolf approaching was nearly to adult size, it was clear he was still an adolescent--he had yet to receive the cape that would declare his rank in and allegiance to the pack. He did not appear happy, though, and it was a sentiment held by too many of the brothers now. Rummy felt the need to do something to fix that. Of course, Rummy always felt the need to do--it was the reason he held his position.
He stood, barking gruffly to the adolescent. As an adult, Rummy outranked the youngster. "You, there," he said, not recognizing the other by name. "Where are you going?"

"Sir?"
The young wolf paused in his tracks, quick to snap to attention, as he did with all wolves that ranked over him. He found it best to behave, to obey, and to stay in line. He was terrified of what might happen if he didn't and if they found him not fit to be a Brother, here.
His tail wagged slightly and he tilted his head to one side, though he held the position of one acknowledging his superior.
"Nowhere in particular, Sir. Just seeing if there is anything to be done. So droll, it's been lately."
