(hi, remember me? I'm that chick with sporadic loyalty to RPG!)
Oh look, gaia. Yet another cash shop item. Yet another collection of limited-time-only s**t that can only be bought with real money, or for artificially inflated prices on the market. Look, more things we have to fork over our own money for. Look, more proof that Gaia is a business, not a hang-out forum. I have an idea. Why not post more loud, screaming ads everywhere that make it impossible to concentrate? How about you just make all store items cash shop items? Oh, what's that? New hair? New clothes? Non-cash? I'm sorry, I didn't realise because I no longer read anouncements. Because. Oh look. Yet another cash shop item that is irrelevent to me.

Agreed. I mean, yes, they do need some money, but they seemed to be doing fine before the cash shop. I hardly think they're staff has increased so drastically that all this is really necessary. In fact, it's really just more for the staff they have to maintain. Generally that means they work longer hours, need to be paid more, and then the company needs more money. Rather circular logic really.

In all fairness, Gaia needs the money to keep operating. That much is clear. But I do agree. This is supposed to be a free webpage. I don't like how it's operating right now. I can deal with the sponsors, and even the cash shop if only it were updated a little less, but I think they've gone a bit overboard. I wish they would find a different way to get money. They should have a bake sale or something.

It's sad for noobies using their real money on a pixelated game :T
I like it old fashion better. Though it always must be unfair since they keep selling the items expensive -.-

But in the end, in the entire time I've been here, Gaia has never undone something that it has done. Modified and changed it, yes, to some extent, but never undone it. So we'll just have to live with it.

Gaia outgrew itself too soon and unlike the old days it cost more to keep (atm 22K) people happy and keeping thing running as smooth as possible. I skim through Lanzer and the other big four journals so I am kind of aware what's going on behind the fun. This economy has hurt this place and they were in fact in the red. Now they slightly in the green. Trust me it sucks when sites like this are sold for pennies or have to shut down completely. I been on a site where both happen.
So like any American company they had to be competitive as well. I mean WOW isn't free and has 11 Million strong. Second Life, Neopets, Maple Story, and a host of other crappy RP sites like GAIA had Cash Cards first. In fact when I first saw the cash cards way back in ('06 [I think] for fake websites) I was shocked Gaia didn't have any. Of course no less than a year or so BAM Gaia had cash cards as well and they have been whoring this site at all the conventions.
However yes, it is sucky how more and more it seems to be an unbalance between the CS items and the Gold Store items. Hell even the GOLD items are more pricey side. However we must remember it IS a hell of a lot easier to get gold than it was a few years ago. When I started back in 2005. It took a week to get 1k and 100K took about four months even if you were smart. As I used to vend all my horded tickets, fish, and ink/bugs. It got a tad easier when things like Cards (Blackjack) came out.
Anyway the problem I have is the CS items seem more realistic, cooler, and have more poses 9 out of ten times. Then again many user hate how the items seem to get more and more realistic. (I'm on the fence) Though in truth I haven't been keeping up with all the items. Yes it sucks how all the long awaited items (IE those new Sailor scout items) go directly to the cash stop when people have been requesting them since 2005! Seems like long requested items should go into the gold shops not the cash shop.
Another problem I have is the lucky chest and no it not the whole BAAAWWW I can't afford the key. More like it's a rip off in the fact that SOME items are only found via Lucky Chest and we have to take Gaia word that the CASH VALUE for these items are more than the key. However there's no proof to back that up if the said items are ONLY found in the Lucky Chest and not sold through other means. (Remember folks: The items are based on cash value not on Gold value and I feel that Gaia needs to explain that better as many users seem to confuse it.)
Also these "Free Cash" offers are starting to piss me off. As some of them are giving people virus, sending minors to porn sites, and ******** up people's credit/ cell phone bills. Gaia should know it's user-base and how idiotic teens are. They aren't asking for their parents permission before doing these offers and shouldn't be allowed to put in personal info. That's a greedy and manipulative move on Gaia's part and one of the shady sides that has come to pass.
As they know that some teens can't afford or their parents won't allow them to spend real cash. So they throw these offers in their faces. These people aren't go to sit around and read all the fine print so they are bound to be doom. Seeing as how most people would consider this to be too long of a read. Hell you can't get most Gaians to read a paragraph and MOST have never fully read any of the rules or TOS!
Don't ask me how I feel about the whole Venus thing. Unless you want this to be longer.
So yeah. Those are some of my feelings about this place. Hopefully made some sense. I'm about to cash see you folks t/m or next weekend.

I'm about to cash see you folks t/m or next weekend. I totally read it all. rofl I think you're pretty much right. As much as it's sucks, and it does, it's better than Gaia going down the toilet. I do disagree on the minors part. Yes, it sucks that a lot of people can't get the cash, but Gaia never told them to go to these shady sites and has on numerous occasions warned it's users to be careful. Gaia cannot control every shady offer that pops up.

And I also agree about the offers Gaia knows the age base and that kids don't read the fine print, hell your lucky if some Gaians can read or spell. Disaster waiting to happen!!

Fact: Gaia is a business. It may edit the site and updates to make it seem like they're listening to people, but at the end of the day it's about making a profit. I don't care about that anymore. Really, I'm used to it. I'm cynical and disillusioned and sooner or later everyone and everything is going to start making demands of you.
The complaint here was that every single anouncement, every one of them, is about new Cash Shop items. Or MCs. Also purchased through real money. The occasional promo with a "cool free item!" (i.e. a crappy ugly accessory that doesn't match ANYTHING) is thrown in, or maybe some convention update, but they're buried in deep amongst the CS. I'm just tired of having them shove information down my throat of something that doesn't affect me. Stop sending me updates, Gaia. I don't care.

They said they were going to update the guild forums and whatnot to run the same as the main forums, but that was MONTHS ago. They've completely forgotten about the guilds, as far as I can tell.
