Clan:Val'Sarghress
_____________________________________________________________
History
_____________________________________________________________
What today constitutes the mighty Sarghress clan was once split into a multitude of mercenary companies, who were spread out across the world. These companies were united by Quain'tana, who then forced her way into the highest circles, becoming the Ilharess of a clan, making all these ruffians and commoners (in the eyes of the other clans) who had been mercenaries for the best parts of their lives, into nobles. It has been suggested that they had the support of the Sullisin'rune clan, yet the huge army under Quain'tana's command was an effective deterrent as well, making the other Val clans reluctant to oppose the Sarghress ascendance into clan status. In fact the army was second only to that of the Sharen clan.
_____________________________________________________________
Philosophy:
_____________________________________________________________
The Sarghress believe in strength and martial prowess, although strength does not necessarily refer to physical strength.
_____________________________________________________________
Clan Fortress:
_____________________________________________________________
The Val'Sarghress have taken an old dwarven fortress as their own. The fortress is almost a small town in its own right, self-reliant and located quite a distance from the city of Chel'el'Sussoloth. It is surrounded by a great wall to deter potential attackers, and also by farmlands - that is, lakes where algae are cultivated, and mushroom forests.
_____________________________________________________________
Clan Traditions:
_____________________________________________________________
Clan Colors:
The Sarghress use several colors, although red seems to be predominant, in particular red is used as hair dye, most Sarghress seem to dye parts of their hair red. Other colors in use by the clan are purple, gold and blue. Armor may be dyed to indicate what battalion a person is in.

Clan Animal:
The Sarghress clan animal is the wolf. The Sarghress wolves are large enough for drow to ride, and are used as mounts for high ranking nobles, Highland Raiders and of course the Wolf Fangs.

_____________________________________________________________
Description:
_____________________________________________________________
The Fallen Legion is an elite squad formerly under the command of Laele'aell Val'Sarghress. They were chosen by Quain'tana herself, and raised together with Laele'aell. There have been no new recruits for a while, and likely won't be until the heir situation is cleared up.

Their leader was trained by some of the Xuile'solen, and the Fallen Legion were trained to be the spies and assassins of the clan. Meant to fight alone and kill from a distance, as well as close up, without being seen. If caught, they are trained to fight a whole group of enemies before running away. These troops had a promising future until their leader fell to tainted mana. Without a leader, they lost much of their recognition. Nevertheless, the troop renamed itself in honor of their fallen leader and continued their duty.

It is rare that members of the Fallen Legion remain in the Sarghress fortress for any length of time. Most of them are on duty in the city, and even outside the city. Some of them have infiltrated enemy clans to gather intelligence but, unfortunately, these lone errands led to several of them getting tainted in the process. The motto for the Fallen Legion is to not judge their comrades for this, as they all know what it is to have a difficult mission and be alone to accomplish it.

Besides light leather and silk armor to protect themselves, they also have their illusions. All members of the Fallen Legion are trained to use shadow and light to hide themselves or to confuse enemies. They are trained to disguise themselves if they need to infiltrate the ranks of their enemies, and some veterans among the troops have pushed their arts far enough to perform minor shapechanges to perfect their disguise.

For close combat they have a pair of daggers, and for long range they have a selection of throwing knives and a mini-crossbow. Some have access to poisons to perform assassination duty and it isn't rare to see equipment with golem enhancements to climb walls or hang from a rooftop. In case they are cornered, they have an automatic crossbow capable of firing a quick barrage of arrows, allowing them time to escape.
_____________________________________________________________
Attitude:
_____________________________________________________________
Loners, people who trust few besides themselves and who can keep a straight face when among enemies; keeping their cool might be a question of life or death. A member of the Fallen Legion is also someone who will prefer indirect fighting and stealth to do their job. The 'show-off' who fights in the open whenever they can is definitely not welcome among them.

Description:
____________________________________________________________
The name "Highland Raiders" might be misleading for some. From the drow's point of view, the Highland is everything above them. It does not matter if it is towns close to the surface or the Overworld itself. The Highland Raiders are always traveling, a nomadic troop of soldiers . Their goal is to raid the highland ruins, legacy of the war that destroyed much of the surface, and take the riches they find to fund the clan. Sometimes they may end up finding artifacts which can benefit and strengthen the clan. Due to this continual traveling, the Highland Raiders have a very open-minded spirit which have led them to even accept light elves among their ranks.

They are familiar with the overworld and many cities, able to fight in many terrains and knowledgable about many of the races. Sometimes, they can be used for rescue missions for clans who might have lost some of its members on the Overworld. The troops have, over the course of the years, built several hidden outposts across the Underworld and Overworld, where they keep a minimal force along with some native support to protect each of them. As they are a nomadic group, their homes are carried along with them on top of giant lizards. The armor of the Highland Raiders is based on an ancient relic from the Moons Age; it was meant to be worn for a very long time. To pull this off, the armor is very form-fitting and golem enhancements make it both cool and warm to match the need. Additionally, it has a mask which can shut over the face to protect the user from harmful gas and weather.

Those who join the Highland Raiders are the Sarghress Warriors who have a desire to travel and have experience with relic hunting. It is not uncommon that this troop switches is members from time to time as a lot of Sarghress at some point in their life feels the need to see new horizons for a time, whole those who traveled for a long time end up needing a rest. Any of the troops, even those among the War Meat troops, may join the Highland Raiders. The War Meat troopers may not acquire the special armor, made specifically for the drow and which therefore needs an aura to active the golem enhancements.

Equipped with the best armor the Sarghress has to offer, heavily enhanced and equipped with light yet very solid blades, teh Highland Raiders are an elite troop which can stand on its own within foreign lands. Many members have found treasures on their quest, either on fallen enemies or from ruins, and may have kept them for personal use. Since all warriors come from different troops (even different parts of the world, considering there are light elves among them), each of them has their own personal fighting style.

Wolf Fangs:Statistics
_____________________________________________________________
Races biggrin rowolath
Rank:Middle
Weapons:Heavy blades and maces, sometimes oversized.
Armor:Full plate armor - can have golem enhancements.
Fighting Style:Aggressive close range. The wolf pounces, bites and claws, while the rider fights from their back.
Mana Mastery:Minor sorceries
Special Attributes:Mounted on Dire Wolves. The wolves themselves are trained to fight, with or without a rider.
_____________________________________________________________
Background:
_____________________________________________________________
Description:
_____________________________________________________________
Wolf Fangs are the Sarghress cavalry, riding a special breed of wolf. These Dire Wolves are giant-sized, able to carry a fully armored soldier and trained since an early age to hunt and fight. Even armored enemies will not make one of these Dire Wolves back off. Very smart and skilled at working in groups, with both their kin and riders, they are efficient killers. In a group, they can even overcome a mounted Sharen Dragon Knight. Some of the wolves attain an impressive size and usually become breeders, to keep making the Dire Wolves stronger than ever. The wolves belong to the whole clan, so the riders can switch in-between them and new riders can come anytime to borrow one. Some of the veterans have taken a liking to a specific wolf, though, and might react negatively to anybody borrowing their "favorite".

The riders are heavy infantry assigned to this troop for their fighting skills and ability to handle the wolves. They are trained to ride and fight with the wolf so that they can fight as cavalry. If a rider has difficulties taming his wolf, and a leader notices it, the soldier will most likely lose his position and return to the heavy infantry; thus, all wolf riders are good at handling animals. These troops allow both genders to join, but females tend to lead and males tend to form the bulk of the force.

The Dire Wolves rarely wear any armor themselves, trusting instead in their thick fur and speed. As for the riders, they wear a flexible plate armor with golem enhancements. The most common ones are the hidden forearm blades and an unfolding shield. They favor big weapons which can crush or cripple the armor of an enemy. These weapons may be slow, but the speed of the wolf gives the riders the chance to protect themselves. The most common tactic for the wolf riders against an enemy with superior numbers is to surround the target before attacking in circles, picking off the enemies in hit-and-run attacks until a smaller core remains. Once they have killed enough enemies so their opponents are equal in number, each rider takes an enemy on their own, the wolf tackling it while the rider strikes the lethal blow.

Roleplay Recommendations
_____________________________________________________________
Consider these warriors cavalry with a past in the heavy infantry. Each one has their own tale as a mercenary or guard, ultimately coming to serve the Mercenary Queen, Quain'tana. They usually have a lot of real battle experience. It is not rare that one of them is related, by blood, to many others among the troops as mercenary groups can sometimes join the clan as a whole. The riders must always have some animal handling skill, be it voluntary or not.

Armor:Full plate armor, with chain mail and golem enhancements
Fighting Style:Close range
Mana Mastery:Minor sorceries
Special Attributes:None

Background:

Description:
_____________________________________________________________
Standard Sarghress troops. Very similar to the skirmishers, except that these were trained for close combat only and are very skilled at fighting in formations. The most oft-used tactic is to form a shield-wall with their bodies and crush the enemies, as well as repelling charges from mounted enemy troops. They form most of the city militia and protect the clan's inner fortress. They can be used to patrol the dangerous areas of the city but, usually, they are given stationary positions due to their heavy armor.

Most heavy infantry are equipped with both a long weapon and a close-range weapon. The most common polearm is the naginata, a single-edged spear whose blade curves at the tip. It is meant for repelling tactics, fighting several enemies at once or attacking mounted troops. When the fight has to get personal they have their blades, or personal equivalent; preferably a heavy blade as they often have to fight armored enemies.

While most tend to favor a second blade as a shield, some have a retractable golem shield. Additionally, the Sarghress heavy infantry are usually trained in performing a 'team cast' mana shield, covering the entire force in case they are attacked by arrows.

Roleplay Recommendations:

Treat them similarly to the skirmishers. Regular Sarghress soldiers with a mercenary past who joined Quain'tana's clan for various reasons; be it glory, money, the action or for Quain'tana's ideals. What more can I say? You've seen them over and over in the manga countless times!

Standard Sarghress troops. They are very versatile, able to fight both in close and long range combat. They all have mercenary roots, like most of the Sarghress clan. They're usually patrolling the city or guarding the fortress walls along with the heavy infantry. If they have to fight along with the heavy infantry, they will usually favor the bow to back up their comrades.

There is no real standard for the skirmisher's equipment. As mercenaries they self-trained themselves to a specific weapon. The skirmishers will most likely carry that weapon, but it is an obligation for them to master at least the bow or crossbow along with their main weapon. Their armor is made to be flexible, allowing them to run fairly fast. They will thus favor dodging over blocking enemy attacks. Skirmishers often use sorcery to strengthen their arrows.

Background:

Description:
_____________________________________________________________
For many non-drow races, this is one of the rare places where they will be free from enslavement. There are many runaway slaves who have joined these troops, as well as mercenary groups in need of money and food. These kinds of troops were created recently in the Sarghress hisotry, during the rise of the tained. It begun as a side project to make an army which could resist tainting in demons, capable of slaying the Nether Summoners before the main Sarghress army would arrive to finish the job.

Over the years, word spread out about these troops. Since the Sarghress have a good reputation among mercenaries and citizens, it didn't take long for masses of non-drow and slaves who managed to set themselves free to knock at the Sarghress gate. While the condition of living is not really good, it is better than being homeless and starving.

Each race usually keeps to itself, having built their own small settlement within the Sarghress walls. Every settlement has a Sarghress trainer, as well. The trainer usually learns the language of the race in order to create a stronger bond and avoid miscommunication. The title of 'War Meat' might not be honorable, but it is the most accurate to what the troops actually are. The troop members who are not familiar with the drow language might not even known the true meaning of the term and actually call themselves this.

Out of all the races, orc favor this position the most, as their race usually lives in tribes; a system close to the drow clans. Humans tend to be a minority, partly becaue human concepts of good and evil hinders the recruitment. There are a few ferals, naga, tauram and Ne'kalsaider as well, which are used for specific tasks and tactics.

Whatever can be salvaged is used to equip the troops; from a dagger to a warhammer, from leather armor to patchwork platemail, any serviceable piece of gear is recycled to improve the effectiveness of the force.
_____________________________________________________________Roleplay Recommendations:
_____________________________________________________________
Runaway slaves or mercenaries in need for money and food? Your choice. One thing for sure, being a minority within a world of drow has led them to live close to each other and form one big family. Everybody is everybody else's brother and sister. Due to the diversity among the troops, it is recommended to let out your creativity there. For Drowtales roleplayers, it might be a good chance to play an armed non-drow that is involved in the clan's conflicts.
