It was just after noon and the sun was just starting its long journey downward. The day was hot with no promise of rain, just more never ending heat from hell.
Moyo had found a small watering hole which he was now laying in. Course he wasn't worried about gators, those only attached bad animals. Or so a hungry gator had told him once. The gator, really, had been trying to score a cubbin snack. Lucky for Moyo, he'd not been in the mood to swim that day.
Today though was just to hot for words. His dark coat did him no favors either , attracting the sun. The poor boy was panting even in the water. Here and there the lion took laps of water, but not to much. Didn't want to get bloated. That would be aweful, bloated AND insanely hot. No thanks.
So Moyo just laid there and watched the various fish and insects in the water. What else was there for a hot cub to do?

As Mashaka wondered thought the rocky beach area near his den when he spoted one of them he got a creul smile on his face, unfortunatly for his step brother his anger had been brewing for awhile and today he was thinking he would be able to unleash some of it. These cubs took his fathers attention away from him and his siblings, cubs that had already lost their mother.
Mashaka strutted towards his younger step mohter... making no atttempt to hide from him. It was obvious the younger cub was bothered by the heat of today, Mashaka on the other hand didn't find it hard in the heat his light purple and white coat allowed him comfort on days like these. He came and stood next to his younger sibling and looked down at him, the size diffence between the cubs was quite evident. "Hello there little brother" he said cringing as he said the word bother... his father had told him to treat these young ones as family but to Mashaka they were nothing by a nuicense.

Moyo watched as his 'older brother' came strutting toward him. He had no idea that Mashaka had a beef with him or his brothers.
Nope, Moyo just smiled as he laid in the shallow pool. A dragon fly rested on top of Moyo's head as the lion cub lazed about. It was just so damn hot . Beads of sweat mixed with the water gave Moyo a slick seal like fur look.
"Mashaka, " He greeted his older brother while he panted. He was so lucky to have a lighter color pelt. Right now the cub would have done anything to be comfortable.
Ah well, the pool was nice.
"What are you doing over by the water hole brother?" He smiled up at his brother, his panting even stopping. Truthfully, Moyo loved all his older step siblings. Moyo thought all of them were really neat.

"Well Moyo it is a hot day out I thought I would come down here to get a drink before I went exploring. Perhaps I shall dig a hole to find a cool place to relax." he grinned at his brother, it was only recently that he had learned how to dig really good holes, thanks to a friend he meant... he of course had no intentions on showing his step brother how to do it.
Spotting the dragonfly on Moyo's head Mashaka lifted on of his purple paws and swung it heavily across the top of his step brother's head. "You had something there Moyo" Mashaka said simply, he recognized that he was probably a lot rougher then he needed to be to get the dragonfly to leave, and he also knew that he could have just left the dragonfly where it was but he felt that lacked a lot of fun. He hadn't hit him hard enough for it to hurt anyway.
"So why are you here?" Mashaka asked the younger cub faking interest.

Moyo flinched when his 'older brother' swatted the fire fly off his head. He hadn't known that it was there but the lion really didn't mind that it had been there. Maybe his brother knew something he didn't.
Moyo just watched him for a short while. His smile had faded but his eyes remained friendly. Yeah, probably something Moyo didn't know. Maybe he'd mistaken the insect as a dragon fly and it was a wasp. That made sense.
"So you wanna come take a drink ?" Moyo stood up and stepped out of the water. Drinking out of water that had someone still in it just sounded ... unappealing. Ignoring that the water had insects an fish and possibly other critters lurking about its depths too. Really, you had no idea what you were really sharing the murky water hole water with.
Moyo shook the water off his pelt and took a seat on the pebbled beach. He had no idea that Mashaka hated his guts. Nope.

Mashaka couldn't help but laugh at how naive his 'younger brother' really was. "Erm thank you" he managed to stumble out before he leaned in to get a drink from the watering hole Moyo had been laying only moments before.
Mashaka felt a bit guilty for hating his younger brother so much, in truth the cub had done nothing wrong and Mashaka knew that, but its mother had been the bane of his persistence since they had arrived at this new home, and the easiest way to punish her would be to disrupt her cubs lives. This cub had never felt the pain of not having a mother, and as far as he was concerned Mashaka's father was as good as his. Mashaka's father had been their raising these cubs along side their mother since they were born. Mashaka on the other hand had been ripped from his mother so early in life, so that his father could return here to this. Mashaka scoffed at the thought.
"So what is it that you plan on doing this afternoon Moyo" he asked the other cub, his voice sounded with anger.

The small cub had no idea why his older brother was laughing at him. Had he missed some sort of joke? So , naturally, Moyo laughed too .
"I haven't really thought about it ... ?" The young male cub tilted his head. What were his plans? Before Mashaka had shown up he'd planned on staying in the water longer. But that wasn't really what you could call plans for the day? The fact that there was anger in Mashakas voice didn't go unnoticed, but Moyo figured maybe something stung him... or something.
"I was gonna just lay there I guess," The cub smiled. There wasn't much else he'd thought about except keeping cool in the heat of the day. Don't get him wrong, he loved his dark pelt and blue markings. He just didn't the heat that came long side it.

Mashaka shook his head at his brother. Really he wasn't that bad of a creature.... but his family has to be punished. He wasn't surprised that his step brother had no other plans, this was perfect for him though, now his brother didn't have a way to leave him.
"I guess your dark colors don't help you much in the heat?" he said to his brother. It was said like it was a question but really it was a statement. "I suppose your mother is to thank for them." After making the comment about Moyo's mother Mashaka smiled... he knew how to bug the little cub. It was no secret that Mashaka's father wasn't Moyo's either or at least Mashaka was fairly sure that all the other cubs knew but Mashaka decided he was going to have some fun with this fact though... of course he would have to be careful though he couldn't have the cub returning home with stories.

Moyo looked thoughtful and then nodded, "Yeah she is pretty dark her self." The cub had no idea what Mashaka was trying to play. Another passing dragonfly made residence on top of the kids head.
Moyo padded back to his little spot in the water and curled down into it. He was really hot with all this heat. The pool of water was a life saver.
"Where did your purple come from?" Moyo pawed up at his brother. The question was just out of curiosity. Moyo had always wondered , there were no other full pelted purple lions in the family that he knew of. His step sisters had some purple on em but not like Mashaka.

Mashaka lifted his paw and swiped the dragonfly of his brothers had again skimming the top of his head a little harder this time. "Oops you had something there... don't worry I took care of it for you."
Mashaka studied his fur, he was quite proud of his purple pelt, "I got my fur from my mother she is beautiful. My father" he emphasized the my " and her were together before he came back here. They had seven cubs and then went their separate ways." Mashaka hid his anger about the fact that he had lost his mother and had to come here, he didn't want to give Moyo a leg up.
"It wasn't long after we got here that your mother" this time he emphasized your, "had you and your brothers" again your was emphasized. "I am pretty sure that your mother already had you in her belly when we arrived." he was trying to draw it to her attention that he wasn't really a member of the family. "Thats why you look nothing like my siblings or my father. We have the beauty of our mother in us."

Moyo frowned some. He wasn't sure why, but all of a sudden he felt a detached feeling like there was something wrong with him since he wasn't really related to Mashaka or his siblings. Really, the young cub thought they were all related.
"O-ooh... " He looked down at his paws and just stared. All of a sudden he felt so unclean.
"W-well... I m sure she was . " The cub looked up, his eyes were watery from tears he was fighting back. "I-I m sure she was." He said again swallowing back the sorrow that was creeping up on him. Why was he so sad ?
"B-but me and my brothers have a beautiful mother too. And . . and we all get to live together now.." And now came the phase Moyo tried to make light of the situation.

Mashaka felt a twinge of guilt when he heard his step brother's response, but he moved on anyways. "Well I suppose your mother is alright looking. But she is nothing compared to my mother my mother had white and purple and gold. I mean just look at me and my siblings." he said this doing a twirl.
"Even though our father is only gray we still ended up with so much beauty in us. And we are lucky too for the sun of the dessert doesn't bother as as much as it would you." he looked down at his brother who was still laying in the whole.
"I wonder what your father looks like. Its a shame you will never get to know him. I might have lost my mother for now but I at least knew what she looked like before I had to leave her, and I know that one day I will be able to go and find her." a cruel line of a smile went across Mashaka's face.

Moyo hadn't really ever been bothered by not really knowing his father because he'd never had someone point out that his real father was missing. Now that the cat was out of the bag, the cub felt a weight of loss. He didn't even know what his father had looked like or where he got his beautiful blue from. Probably would never know.
Moyo fought back tears again. Why was Mashaka telling him all this? The cub sniffled and looked away for a few moments feeling like he just didn't belong in the world and something was wrong.
"I ... never thought about my father, " The cub finally looked back at Mashaka, " I wonder... if he was beautiful too." He sniffled a few more times. A heavy heart was a big load to carry. Moyo didn't much feel like being in the pool right now .

Mashaka paused for a moment questioning whether he was doing the right thing or not. "Uh your father... well who knows if what he looks like, you know for sure he had blue in him though right." Mashaka said in a moment of kindness.
"I guess you are lucky you have my father to take care of you." this statement was said with a hint of anger in his voice. Mashaka wanted his farther all to himself, well he was ok with sharing with his full siblings. But he didn't want to have to share with these step siblings of his, he wanted to have a family. A family that he was still coming to terms with would never exist.

Moyo stood up and got out of the pool, shaking the water off of himself. He offered Mashaka a smile, but his eyes still were a little saddened.
" Your father is great. I'm ... sorry about your mom. I don't mind that we aren't really brothers though. I'll still see you as my brother." Moyo gave him a nod and took a step closer. This time the lion was smiling up at his bigger brother.
Really, Moyo really liked Mashaka.
