In the past few moths the two had been together, Alome and her father, Noel, have had a few difficulties with one another. Granted, there was an over abundance of love between the infant daughter and the young father, but still.. There were petty arguments. Today's argument was about teaching the little girl how to swim. They were at the public pool, where there was an offer for a weeks worth of free swimming lessons for little children.
"Daddy.. No want to learn to swim! I fwiy, so no need to swim!" she protested. She wore a cute little tutu style swimsuit with a lilac color and yellow butterflies on the chest area, along with yellow waterwings.
"Alome, what if you fall into a lake? Or into the pond in our back yard? I want to make sure you're safe little one.." Noel smiled, kissing the top of Alome's nose, giggling when he watched her nose scrunch up.
"I no fall!! I fwiy! How I fall?" Alome struggled out of her father's grip, flying to the edge of the pool. "See I'm swafe!"

Sammi and Reiya were also at the pool, but for once, they were not arguing with their mother, quite unlike Alome. That didn't mean they weren't splashing her of course.
"Lome!" Sammi cried happily, spotting her friend after getting lightly splashed by her mother. The freckled pigtailed toddler was dressed in a red and white polkadotted swimsuit with a smock like skirt. "Hi Lome! Ooo swim too?" She asked, moving her arms up and down. She was being supported by two brightly colored waterwings, of course decorated with pictures of Tinkerbell. Guess who'd picked them out.
Reiya on the other hand, was in a purple polka--wait, those weren't dots. They were hearts. She too had the waterwings so wisely chosen by a certain fae.
Thali, of course was wearing something less modest. Though it wasn't quite so bad, or her husband wouldn't have allowed her to go at all. At least it was a one piece, right? And it covered everything important. It was dark blue, and tied in the back. "Hello, Noel," she said, giving the man a bright smile. She'd finally been able to figure out what he was, a man.

"Oh~ Sammi!! ReiRei! Hai hai hai!" Alome fluttered over to them, hovering over the water. "I swim. No like to, tough. Like fwiying bwetter." The little.. well, Kirin hybrid sat on the edge of the pool, splashing her legs. Her feet didn't make too big of a splash but it was enough to create a bit of ripples.
"Do ReiRei And Sammi have fun in dat pwool?" She asked, still looking at it wearily. She didn't trust it, not at all.
Her father stood behind her, sitting down in a way that his legs were protectively on each side of her, holding her by her little waist. "Hello there, Miss Thali, I'm glad to see you are well. Are you here for the free lessons as well, or are you her for fun?

"Swim fun!" Sammi told her friend, before sending a splash of water in Alome's direction. The freckled toddler giggled. "It fun, 'Lome! Wan play wiff us?" She asked, tilting her head slightly. Her feet touched the bottom here, so she could easily bounce over to her friend with help of her water wings.
Reiya on the other hand, wasn't quite so brave. She stuck close to her mother. "Swim fun!" She agreed, looking up to Thali. "Lesson?" She asked.
"Lessons?" Thali echoed easily, blinking. Her expression gave away her surprise, clearly she'd had no idea. They came to swim everyday, the elf had been teaching her twins to swim. "We were here for fun, but I think we might join in the lessons." She said, giving the man a bright smile. "Alome seems quite reluctant to join in, though."

"No no no! NO wanna swim. It scary and mean!" Alome's little voice squeaked, hurrying away from the splashing. How water was mean to her was a question indeed, but she was absolutely against going anywhere near the other splashing children. "No wanna get wet.."
Her father chased after her, pulling his tiny child against his chest, cooing in a mother like fashion and petting her hair. "Alome.. You have too.. Please.. If you do I'll make a super special cake for you.." He put her down then lookd back at Thali. "Yeah.. But she's reluctant.."
She looked up with wide eyes. "Cake for Alome..? Okies.." With a pout, she returned to her spot at the shallow slope of the pool, walking until the water reached her waist. Sammi and Reiya were still quite a bit away. "No go deeper. No no no."

Sammi started to giggle, yes, she was laughing at her friend. She'd never met anyone who was scared of water before. Monsters were a completely different story. Monsters were scary! Water was nice, how could Alome be scared of it? "Why scawed Lome?" She asked reasonably, blinking at her friend. "It safe. Mommy teach us if ooo no wan ooor Daddy teach ooo. Mommy good swim. It okay." She blew bubbles in the water to prove it. "See! Mommy teach us!"
"Mommy swim good," Reiya agreed with a nod. "No be scawed. It okay. It fun." The lighter skinned toddler demonstrated by splashing her mother, which earned her a splash back.
"Really, there's no need to be scared Alome." Thali said, looking up at her daughters' friend. "There's nothing to hurt you here. No sharks or monsters--we've got the pool to ourselves."

Alome still didn't move from her spot in the water. "No like pwool cause pwool water makes meh wings stick together.. and I no fwy.." She was slightly bent forward so the tips of her wings wouldn't touch the wetness.
Noel shook his head, getting in beside her. "If I only knew how to make her wings go like I do mine.. It would be so much easier.."

Thali had a sudden idea. "I'll be right back." She told her daughters, before climbing out of the pool ever so gracefully. Then she dashed for her bag, recieving a glare from a lifeguard and a "Don't run!" from another.
She didn't seem to pay them any attention, though she did stop running. She reached her bag, and took out two small plastic shopping bags. She went back over to Alome. "Hold still. I've got an idea on how to keep your wings dry." She said, before carefully putting on bag on each wing. She tied them so they were fitted. "That okay, or is it too tight?" She asked.
She looked over to Noel. "In case Sammi and Reiya had to change clothes." She explained with a sheepish grin. "I'm always prepared."

Alome made a face at the sound that her wings made when covered in the plastic, but.. It did keep her wings from getting wet.
"Dank uu, Miss Tali!" She squeaked, flying up a bit with difficulty and 'chuuing' her cheek. She then went a little deeper into the the water, submerging her wings with a frightened look, but then she moved them, and the still didn't stick together. The little winged child let out a relieved sigh and smiled, splashing a bit.
Noel, too, was thankful for Thali's help, slipping into the water with his hands on Alome's waist. "Careful little one.. You don't know how to swim yet."

Thali nodded and gave a smile in Alome's direction. "You're welcome, Alome," she said, before glancing at her daughters. After making sure they were still in the shallow end of the pool, she looked at Noel and gave him a smile. "She's safe on this side, don't worry. It doesn't go anywhere near their heads. I'd be surprised if their hair got wet. Unless..." She paused, watching Sammi intentionally splash herself with water.
"Unless they did that," she finished with a grin. "I'm sure they will, though. So when does the lesson start?"
Sammi and Reiya were pointedly ignoring their mother, they were too involved with a splash fight. That was, they were until they noticed Alome had gotten in the water. Sammi made her way to her, not quite swimming. More moving her arms like a bird's wings. "I swimmin'!" She exclaimed, continuing to do this as she went to Alome.

Noel shook his head. "It was supposed to start about 15 minutes ago, but.. There's no instructor around.. I wonder where in the world is the lesson supposed to take place.." He cast his gaze around the pool, seeing only a few people here and there. After a while, he settled himself down in the pool, sitting so that his hair fluttered about him. "maybe it was canceled.. "
Alome tilted her head as she watched Sammi 'swim' closer and closer, hoping over to her. "Hai Sammi~ " She spoke softly, still unsure about the water.
"Having fun..? I'm glad! I still scared. But.. I try too, kay kay?"

"We could always be the teachers," Thali said with a grin and a shrug. "I've never taught swimming before, but it's my experience that teaching is quite simple, and rather enjoyable." Of course she would say that, she loved her job. She taught history and mythology combined. "I don't see why it would be canceled though. Maybe not enough people were interested."
Sammi took Alome's hand as she drew nearer. "No be scawed, Lome. It okay. Water fun! We swim!" She splashed to demonstrate, carefully making sure it didn't hit her friend. "Water fun!"
Reiya bounced over to Alome as well. "It 'kay, Lome," she said, offering her friend a smile. "Water no hurt you, promise."

Alome still seemed a bit unnerved by the water but smiled as Sammi took her hand and she slowly went deeper, up to her chest. "Ohh.. It's cold!" She giggled nervously, clinging a bit to Sammi and smiling to Reiya.
"What do you pway in da water..?
"Hmm.. I never thought of that... But for now, I just want her to get used to water, you know~ " He giggled, tucking his hair behind his ears. "Oh, do you teach? I'm a stay at home dad.. My husband does all the working."

Sammi paused to answer her friend's question. "We play tag, an Mawco Polo, an' lots of stuff! Big brudders teached me Mawco Polo! Is fun! One close eyes, then rest hide in water! No get out, or it bad. Joss say it cheating," she explained as well as she could. She didn't truly understand the game, she'd only played it twice with her older brothers. "One with eyes closed say Mawco! And then, hiding people say Polo! Kay? That the wules."
Reiya stuck her tongue out at Alome, before giggling. She glanced at her mother and Noel, before sending a splash in either direction. And when a toddler who controlled weather splashed you, it was more like a tiny tidal wave.
"Oh yes, I teach. History," Thali said with a smile. "I was a stay at home mom while Josh was younger, and when the twins," she gestured to Sammi and Reiya at this, "Were smaller. The school needed me, and I could hardly say no."

Alome nodded, flapping her wings a bit, creating a wave of ripples around her. "I pway if Rei-Rei pways too!" She turned around in the pool and hugged Reiya, patting her head, though she had to stand in tiptoe to reach.
"I used to work in a children's hospital.. But.. when I had my own child.. Well.. " He casted a fatherly glance to his splashing daughter and grinned. "Let's just say my heart belongs to her now."
