An unusually cold rain had just washed the earth clean, the air cool, fresh, and crisp in the evening light. The yellow stallion dodged through the trees, enjoying his favorite time of day. The fresh scent and invigorating cool breath were delights on Kanobi's senses. Usually walking around with his head down, he now ran with head high, nostrils flared for the best experience. The ground gently squished underneath his hooves, the birds coming back from their shelters and chirruping praises at the clean air. The kicked up mud clung to his lower body, keeping him from overheating as he ran. He knew a small river was ahead, the laughter of the water sounding in his ears. What a glorious day! How odd, feeling happy to be alive.

Karishma had wandered away from her family and the rest of the herds her family had impressed. She had gotten a little bored at home, and seeing the outside world had been interesting, but now she was thinking of moving back in the direction of home. The rain had been quite nice this afternoon, warmer where she'd been when it hit than the woods she walked through now. The evening air felt pleasantly clean now. She raised her ears and fine muzzle to hear and smell the world around her. The birds had begun their short twilight song, but that...that was a familiar scent she hadn't smelled lately. Was that Kanobi? Coming around the bend, she saw her old friend Kanobi frolicking through the trees. "Well, well, well, if it isn't Kanobi," she said with a grin. "You're in fine spirits this evening."

So content in his run, the feminine voice took him completely by surprise. Instinctivly, he ducked his head down and tried to stop, but became unbalanced and took a tumble. He was stuck on his back in thick mud for a moment when he laid eyes on the familiar face. "Karishma!" He exclaimed in embaressed horror. He rolled onto his belly, looking up with wide pale eyes as he stood. "Me? Er- fine spirits, yes, nice weather." He stuttered out quickly. Not only was she a female, all of whom were intimidating beings, but one that he indeed found to be very lovely. She had grown much since they're first meeting, back when Kari had been a headstrong foal. Her growth into adulthood had actually made him shy away from her for a while. "How are you?" He asked when his startled nerves had settled.

Kari grinned. "You look silly down there. I was headed home after spending the last several weeks exploring. It was getting boring being at home in the mountains all the time." She tossed her head. "The outside world was fun and interesting and all, but I'm kinda glad to be headed home for a bit." She paused for a moment. "How about you? I haven't seen you around since I was younger."

The magenta of Kanobi's horn spread through the skin of his face. Of course he looked silly. Bashful as ever, even though he knew this female, Kanobi's head stayed hunkered down passively. "Exploring that sounds like fun. I don't do anything interesting like that." He cleared his throat, eager to take the topic off himself. "Me? I've been good. Practicing. Nothing much." When she was younger? He had been younger back then too. "So where did you go. You said it was weeks?" He asked as he brushed at the mud with his legs.

Kari cocked her head. "What were you practicing? A dance or some kind of game or something?" Her golden eyes took on a distant expression. "I got out to see the sea and wandered along a river or two, got to see some waterfalls I hadn't seen before. All very interesting, but it was a bit lonely sometimes. Yes, very beautiful, but also...just...devoid of anyone really hanging around that I could find easily." She shrugged. "As I said, I got bored of that, too, after awhile, just bored of the loneliness."

Kanobi shook his head. "No, I mean, healing. I've... gotten better since we last met." He said, fearful of sounding like a bragger. "I was just enjoying the weather." Did that make him sound silly too? His eyes glanced up at Kari knowingly. "Loneliness. One can only take so much of it. It sounds like you had a good time though."

Kari cocked her head, this time genuinely fascinated. "Healing? I don't remember you healing before. You probably didn't mention it before." She shrugged at his next comment. "I guess there's only a finite amount of loneliness one can deal with, but at least these last few weeks were interesting."

Kanobi smiled. He was suprised she had remembered him at all, much less that he was trying to be a healer. "Well, now you know." He said lightly. He cocked his head with interest. "What have these last few weeks brought for you, Kari?"

Kari shrugged again. "Nothing so interesting that I haven't already mentioned. Besides, I'd definitely like to hear about the healing. I haven't met any other kirin who wanted to heal kirin. Could you tell me about it?" This definitely sounded interesting, and Kari hoped that this time, she wouldn't get bored. She hated being bored, but thank the Goddess, Kanobi's healing sounded very interesting. And besides, she'd missed Kanobi.

Kanobi nearly fell over. She wanted to hear about what he did? Admittedly, he didn't hear of many other healers around either. Maybe she would be truly interested? "Well, it deals a lot with finding plants that affect your body a certain way. My- er- a mother stressing about her children for instance. There is a plant that eaten in small amounts will help to calm her down. And another plant soothes bugs bites when you mash it up and put it on the bites." His head started raising up as he talked about his favorite subject. "If it's a worse injury, like a broken leg, wrapping it with a tough reed helps it heal straight. The reed is soft when wet, but dries out really hard. That's how it stays."

Now Kari was definitely intrigued, and being intrigued about something excited her. "Ohhh, that's very interesting!" she said with delight. "I didn't know one could use plants like that. Are all plants that useful, or are only some of them helpful like that?" Kari had never heard of healing, let alone with plants. If more plants were like this, she definitely wanted to learn about plants and healing. It didn't sound like something that would ever bore her, and that pleased her deep down inside.

Tail swaying with pleasure, Kanobi's bright eyes held the female's. A most unusual occurance. "Not all plants. Most are just good for filling your stomach." He chuckled at his own simple joke, bland as it was. Something else new to him. "Though you have to be very careful when testing the plants. Some can be helpful only when taken in one single way, and some are not good for you at all."

Kari nodded. "That makes a certain amount of sense." She cocked her head. "That's strange, that some plants are only helpful in one specific way. Isn't it dangerous to test plants out on those who are sick or hurt? Did your mother teach you about all the plants you know about?" Kari definitely wanted to know more. She knew she should be headed home, her parents would want to see her again soon, but...but she was enjoying hearing about healing from her friend Kanobi. The subject deeply intrigued her, and she felt certain her parents would understand.

Frowning slightly, Kanobi gave a slow nod. "Yes, sometimes it is dangerous, but you have to learn what works somehow. I usually won't test on someone severely hurt or ill. A lot has already been learned though by tests from the past, passed down by the learned ones. So we healers have a basis to work up from whan testing." His frown softened. "No, my mother doesn't know much about healing. My family uses their natural defenses for themselves, which day to day works fine. I- I want to help others though." Looking down at his hooves, starting to feel bashful again, he found that he was still covered in mud and chuckled. Distracted from the healing topic, he remembered he was talking to a female. "Would you care to walk with-with me to the water. I need to, um, I need to-to rinse this stuff- er- mud, off."
