Name: Lmai D'Amiene
Age: I usually use her in her twenties. In Dawn of the Pirate Age she's about 28. In Dead Men Tell No Tales, she's probably 25.
Era: The Golden Age of Piracy;
History: Lmai was the middle child. One older brother, 4 years older than her. One older sister, 2 years older. And one younger sister, 11 months younger. She would've had a younger brother, but he was still in womb when the family was destroyed. (She still has nightmares. I'll get to those later.)
Her father owned a tavern in a well-to-do port town (Greenrigg, in DotPA). The children grew up hearing tales from sailors about syrens, sword battles, sea monsters and, of course, pirates. From a young age, Lmai fantasized about catching the next tide and heading out for an epic adventure filled with treasure, excitement, and romance.
Then her father came down with consumption (tuberculosis) and quickly faded away. There wasn't much time for mourning, and the children set to helping their mother take care of the tavern in the wake of their father's death. With her brother now manning the tap, it was up to Lmai (who'd never really had the grace to handle the plates and trays like her elder sister) to entertain the patrons. She took up her brother's violin and found she had quite a natural talent.
One night, after the tavern had closed down, Lmai and her younger sister were playing hide-and-seek in the basement. Lmai hid in an empty crate. After several minutes, she hadn't been found. An hour passed. No one came for her. Two hours. She fell asleep. In the morning, she woke up and went upstairs to see why her sister had abandoned her. What she saw was engraved into her mind forever. People were strewn across their tables, laying in pools of their own blood. Upstairs in their home, her mother laid half on, half off the bed, her clothes ripped from her body and her pregnant stomach and throat slashed. Lmai's sisters were found in the girls' room in a similar manner.
She ran downstairs to get away from the sight. Except, someone was already there. A tall man in rich man's clothing, with long black hair stood in the middle of the tavern, grinning up at her. They'd come back for the loot in the basement. Lmai ran. She ran as fast as she could to the cemetery and hid in her family's crypt, next to her father's coffin. Finally, the band of thieves left the smoldering ashes of the town.
A week later, her family buried, her brother missing, and with no more tears left in her body, the seventeen year old cut her hair, donned men's clothing and hopped aboard the first boat to leave. She'd heard the name of the ship that'd attacked her town, and she vowed to kill the man who'd destroyed her family.
She got sidetracked in her grief, in her nightmares. She took up drinking to keep the nightmares at bay at night, and the alcohol consumed her more than she did it. She'd nearly lost herself to it until she found herself under the command of a pirate captain by the name of Zev. With his help, she conquered her addiction (for the time) and got back on her feet. She left with a kiss, promised him she'd return to him when her task was done, and set out to destroy the Amaranth King.
Five years after she'd left Greenrigg, two after Zev, she spent some time in London, where she got in trouble with the law for thievery and met up with a firey redhead by the name of Gref. Together, the two escaped prison and the lad quickly rose up the ranks in the crew to first mate.
Lmai has a problem with Syrens. A big problem. And it messes with her head. All the stories she'd ever heard about the creatures had portrayed them as conquerers of
men. Yet when the femme captain fell under their spell, it left her confused. And left her with several large and long scars to prove her encounter.
Lmai has yet to find the Amaranth King, but she hasn't given up hope. She knows he has her brother, and she intends to get him back... even if it's the last thing she does.
AMARANTH KING when Lmai first sees him in the tavern:

GREF

Character voices:
For Lmai, I had actually originally pictured her voice similar to Tarja Turunen. But
Vienna Teng captures her better. And I love that song. <3 It'll be coming up in one of her posts soon.
Gref, God forgive me, whenever I hear his voice in my head, he sounds like Axel. -angst-
As for the Amaranth King, I've always imagined his voice to hold the same cold and cruel tone as Sesshomaru, but the voice doesn't really fit. D: So I have nothing to go on right now.
