Kombo sighed as he sat on a large rock at the top of a waterfall. Looking over the tree tops below his eyes were not trully seeing the sight before him as his mind was focused on other things. His mind was running over the many different plans he had thought up in the last couple of days. He was sure these plans were good and planned to put them into motion very soon. All he needed was the permission from his pride leader.

In all reality he didn't need to ask to leave being a male he was free to leave whenever he pleased but he knew if he just left this particular pride both his pride leader and his mother would be on his trail to bring him back. It was in his best interest to get permission to leave first and that was what he was doing. He was awaiting his pride leader Tyranny to join him at this particular location so that they could talk.

The roar of the falls was calming to Tyranny's mind, as he had much to think about recently. He'd been watching over Tufani's children closely as they grew and had been as proud as an uncle can be at how strong and smart they had turned out to be (as if he'd doubted it in the first place). Tufani, as well, was a great asset to his pride, and he was proud of her for handling all that she'd been stuck with as well as she has. Still...he worried about the boys eventually seeking revenge for what happened to their mother. Granted, Jeuri would get what was coming to him eventually for everything he'd done to himself and his family, but there was a smart way to go about it, and one that would get you killed...he would hate to see their lives wasted through sheer stupidity....

It was Kombo who'd sparked this thought in him with his being preoccupied as of late. Maybe, though, this thing that he wished to speak with him alone about might not be related at all, and it was this curiosity that led him to agree to the meeting and to hear him out. Approaching the falls from upriver, he watched Kombo as he sat on the rock with his back to him overlooking to vista laid about below. Truly, it was a magnificent sight, but he too ignored it for the time being. Soon as he was close, he chuffed to alert Kombo to his presence before making the leap to one of the smaller boulders that flanked the larger one. Turning his gaze, as if to take in the view (but keeping Kombo focused in the corner of one eye), he said aloud, "What is on your mind, nephew of mine? You've been very quiet as of late...least till you asked for this meeting."

Kombo didn't turn to the sound of Tyranny's chuff but did his best to hide the little jump he'd made from the sound. He was a bit unhappy as he realised that he hadn't heard Tyranny coming. But he wasn't going to be perturbed from his objective. He didn't know exactly how to begin what he needed to say as he kept his gaze on the land but he felt being straight forward might be best.

"I want to leave the pride." He stated quickly. "I feel I am needed elsewhere and must go to fufill my destiny." He was beating around the bush to say. He didn't really want to tell Tyranny that he was going after Jeuri. He knew Tyranny probably wouldn't let him go. It was a suicide mission and he knew it but he couldn't sit here anymore and allow the cruel b*****d to keep on living.

Tyranny took a good long time to answer, mentally sighing at the choice he had to make. The fact of the matter was, he doubted Kombo would stay even if he was told no, much less put under constant guard to ensure his life would remain intact. How would Tufani react to all this? He could easily see her blowing her top when her son didn't come back, but he could hardly blame either one for their anger, or their actions. Depending on who's paws he was in, he would more than likely react the same way.

"What is this destiny that you speak of?" was all that he replied when he was sure the younger lion was near to mentally jumping out of his fur, though he did his best to show no sign of it. A smile tugged at the ends of his mouth, one both of pride and sadness for his nephew. "Your mother would object to this, you know."

Kombo was beginning to get very edgy by the time Tyranny did answer him. It seemed like it took him forever to say anything but when he did Kombo was suprised and had been hoping that Tyranny wouldn't ask that question. Kombo still managed to beat around it if just for a few moments. "I know mother will be mad at me for me wanting to do this but I can't stop the urges of wanting to tear him apart..."

Kombo sighed. He had no choice but to tell Tyranny his plans now. "I want to avenge her. I want to kill Jeuri for all the pain he has caused my mother. I don't see him as my father at all. He is evil reincarnate and I can't allow him to hurt anyone else like he hurt mother. I have good reasoning Tyranny. I've thought this through and I know I can take him."

Tyranny turned his full gaze upon his nephew, his stare stern and serious as he once more took a moment to respond. Turning away, he once more regarded the scenery before them, his voice soft in sharp contrast to his previous stare, but not mocking. Indeed it was more sad and resigned than anything.

"You are young and headstrong, the pride of youth runs strong in your veins and as all of us do at your age, we believe that death cannot touch us. We are strong and invincible, and the world will cower at the sound of our roar as it echos across the land.

"But....youth is full of follies as well, and one being the idea that we can do things by ourselves. There are some tasks simply too big for one lion, Kombo. You do realize that if you do this alone, you will NOT walk away alive. What about your brothers? What about your mother? What will they do without you?"

Tyranny's words enraged Kombo. He didn't care if he wasn't going to walk away. He only wanted revenge and he couldn't wait any longer to take it. Kombo's anger at Tyranny's words enveloped him and he began to shout. "Mother and Kosea will be fine! They will be happier once I have taken out revenge on Jeuri! I know I won't survive but I will survive long enough to take Jeuri out with me! I will make sure of it!"

Kombo was up on his feet now and pacing on the boulder. A growl rumbled in his throat and he clawed at the boulder leaving light scrapes. "I can do this Tyranny. I can beat Jeuri and I don't need you to tell me I can't!"

Tyranny's voice remained soft in his reply, his gaze not leaving the horizon, letting Kombo get out some of his pent up anger. "I haven't said you can't do it, Nephew, but I don't believe you've completely thought this through. Sure you are strong and have the advantage of youth on your side, but how will you get to him? How will you keep the others from getting you first? And once you are dead, how do you intend to keep them from taking their own revenge on your mother and finishing the job? Your ache for revenge will have done you no and your family no good in the end, and your cause all for naught."

Sitting up, he turned his body till he was watching Kombo pace back and forth full-on, his gaze steely, but he kept his voice calm. "There is a time and place for things, Kombo, and I don't believe this is the time right now. I don't deny that something must be done, but not rashly. But....I will make you deal...." He let his voice trail off as he waited for Kombo's full attention to be on him completely before he continued.

Kombo listened to Tyranny's words though the way he was pacing it was hard to really tell he was listening that is until Tyranny's last words. Kombo immediately stopped and turned his head to look at Tyranny. Tyranny wanted to make a deal? This caught Kombo's attention. What kind of deal could Tyranny want to make that would do him any good right now?

"What kind of deal?" Kombo asked mostly voicing his thoughts and hoping the deal would be something could help him get to Jeuri faster without being followed and stopped.

Tyranny took a moment to answer, wanting to be SURE Kombo took every word he was about to say to heart. "The deal is that to prove you can fight Jeuri, you must first defeat me. You win, and I will let you go, and convince your mother this was best to let you try, and your leaving my pride will be unchallenged, and you will go with my blessing."

He paused, raising his head a little in challenge before continuing onward. "HOWEVER...I win, and you must agree to remain here with no questions asked fully willing to do as I say. I will train you personally for the time ahead, and prepare you, body and mind, for the final battle. This will require patience on your part. When that time comes, I will allow you to take him on yourself, unchallenged by his other pride members."

"Do you agree to this, Kombo?"

Kombo stood in shock at Tyranny's proposition. Was Tyranny serious? He was going to give him a chance to fight him and get to leave if he won but he'd have to stay if he lost. That was a bit of an issue but he did need to think hard on this. If he could win he would be able to defeat Jeuri but if he couldn't win then he was stuck here and knew he'd die anyway. Perhaps this deal could give him an insight to what he was up against anyway since the two were brothers and had the same amount of years of experience.

"Alright. I agree." Kombo said with his head held high and then added. "You swear that if I win I will be free to go with no problems right?" He wanted to make darned sure he was not being tricked.

Tyranny chuckled a little, allowing a small smile to cross his maw as he nodded his head sagely. "I'll make sure your mother doesn't carry you back here by the scruff of your neck." His face returned to being deadly serious as he continued. "You have my word. Tufani won't be happy, but she will honor the deal made between us. My only hope is that if you win our battle, she will forgive us both. Do you want time to prepare?"

Kombo relaxed a bit at Tyranny's word. He believed the king and knew he would honor his words if he won. "Mother will be happy when I return victorious. I do it all for her honor." Kombo replied to Tyranny and then shook his head. "No sir. I am ready whenever you are just mark the battlefield and let's do this." Kombo was as ready as he ever could be. Even his adrenaline was already beginning to course through his veins.
PostPosted: Tue Mar 02, 2010 12:13 pm

What traveled through Tyranny's mind is this: He actually didn't want to do this, but he knew Kombo would have to know the full truth of what to expect. He could not hold back against him, though he was sure Tufani would have words for him later if his newphew came back in rags. Also, battle could not wait for when one was ready, it crept upon you and attacked without consideration, and that's exactly what Tyranny did.

Without hesitation he attacked with a roar, front claws extended as he pounced towards his nephew from the smaller lower rock to the larger. His intention was to trip his nephew into the river as he swung his paws towards his feet in a hopefully surprise attack, using his roar as a distraction.

The roar suprised Kombo and Tyranny's chance at a suprise attack was wide open. Tyranny's strike for Kombo's paws hit it's marking and Kombo tripped hitting first the side of the boulder and then sliding off the edge and into the river only feet from where the water would start to fall. Kombo's whole body went under and he resurfaced just in time to realize he was going over the waterfall. Kombo screamed and clawed at the water to try and keep from going over but it was too late. He fell the hundred feet or more to the pool at the bottom.

The pool was a bit shallow to be jumped into so Kombo's hit a large rock that was on the bottom of the pool. Underwater Kombo cringed at the pain that came from hitting the boulder and after a moment swam for the surface. He surfaced with a gasp and then swam for the shore where he barely was able to place his head on the dry dirt before the pain in his shoulder forced him to lay down.
