User Image Broken ribs, a mangled arm, various gouges around her head and shoulder from large claws, and any number of smaller scrapes bruises littered the limp body of the she-kitsu that had washed up at the river bend. Her shirt was in tatters, and the red scarf that she'd wound around her forehead and neck how lay half unwoven with a number of tears and one long rent in it where it had caught a tree branch. The branch had dragged her to the bank with it, and she'd managed to struggle up to slightly drier ground even half-unconscious before either her scarf chocked her or she'd been washed back out into the current. But then the blackness had come again and she'd passed out.

Something, a noise, a feeling... even just her internal clock had dragged her back out from her dark slumber. She was greeting with so many stabbing pains she couldn't even pinpoint where they came from, but oddly it was when she opened her eyes to a blurry, swimming view and painfully bright light that she uttered a stifled whimper. It hurt... it all hurt... and it was so hot... why was it so hot? She tried to move, but the nerves in her broken arm screamed the moment she did. The pain hit her mind like a shotgun blast and she was thrust back toward the empty blackness of unconsciousness. But that... that wasn't where she needed to be...

There was somewhere she needed to be, someone.. someone... needed her... She tried to move again, this time avoiding moving her arm as much as possible. The pain from her broken ribs wasn't much better, though. She supposed she should be grateful her collarbone wasn't broken. She took a step forward, then another. She had to go...

Where?

There was the sound of pawsteps as someone came closer to the broken and battered kitsu that had washed up on the river's shore. A shadow passed over Kitsyn as the stranger finally came up along side her. He had blazing red hair between his long ears, and wore brilliant blues, reds, and golds as well.

Roy had never seen anything like this. Well, not in a long time atleast. He was aghast at how beaten this poor girl was. How she managed to make it ashore alive, was nothing short of miraculous.

"Don't move," he told her, knowing that too much movement could aggravate her injuries. Yet she couldn't stay on the cold, wet river bank either. Kind blue eyes looked her over before he gently tugged at her tattered shirt to pull her farther up onto the shore.

User ImageMugen shone one last time with vigor before dulling, a black coating falling over the blade as it sheathed itself. One branch lay at the wielder's front, another at his back, sliced cleanly from the source. Eyes were fixed on the distance, completely unseeing by this point. And when he finally turned to tuck the weapon back into his waist holster, he focused again, remembering that he was on a mission--whatever it was.

It had been a long time since coming here, so long that it became redundant to think of it. No new orders had been issued. In fact, the little wireless golem, his best form of communication with the Order, had remained dormant since waking up in this place. Kanda could only surmise that it was broken. Rising to full height, he stalked away from his chosen training grounds. There was an itch at the back of his throat, a minor inconvenience. A quick trip to the nearby river would be enough of a respite. Turning tail, he stalked off in the now familiar direction, refusing to think about just when it had become so second nature.

After a short trek, he was at the water, bending to a spot between some reeds, which worked as quite the filter. When he pulled back, mostly satisfied, something differently colored caught his attention. Something he hadn't noticed earlier. Had he been so thirsty? Eyes narrowed now, the river forgotten, as he pushed towards the something, which soon became someone. And then two someones. A sharp, familiar scent wafted past him. Injuries were something he knew well. Carnage around him was not uncommon. He stopped.

This was something he did not particularly wanted to get involved in. Comradery was not something he seemed to genuinely practice and the injured looked to have someone caring for them already. And yet, he started up again, towards them, looking as dark and unfriendly as usual. If someone was injured it was something to investigate. Had it perhaps been an Akuma attack? But no... her body would not have survived. By the time his thoughts released him, he was hovering very close to them.

Stop moving? But she just got started... Cloudy as her mind was that seemed to make sense, until she shifted in just the wrong way and her ribs shot pain through her side. It made her gasp, which of course just made it worse. Pupils dilated to pinpoints, she stared firmly at the ground, focusing on the texture of the mud and veins of grass with gritted teeth until the pain abated enough to allow clearer thoughts. The kind-hearted fellow trying to help her was attempting to tug her forward by her shirt... The cloth was ripping further as much as it was working, and it might get her away from the immediate edge of the river before giving all together but that wouldn't do much good in the long run.

She sat back on her haunches and lifted her good paw to try and loosen her scarf from her neck. A strange wash of colors flicked past her vision like dancing shapes... it occured to her then that the reason she felt so hot wasn't anything external. She'd been badly injured and washed who knew how far down a cold river, and then laid on the bank of that river for several hours, at least. It had been dark before. Feverish... enough it was starting to make her see things. That... that wasn't good.

The scarf came free, likely with some assistance but she couldn't focus enough to remember. "Tree branches..." she rasped softly, wincing at the pain. She hated to ask it... hated to need it... but a litter would be the best thing to get her away from here. She pushed the tattered scarf feebly toward... who was it that helped? She saw another face that didn't match standing nearby and it took her a moment to realize someone else had found her too.

She fell heavily back onto her good side then, leaving them to whatever ministrations they decided to conjure up. At least someone was there to help... at least...

What had happened though? She pushed in her thoughts, delving for the source of all this pain, but it was hard to follow it any farther than the cold rush of water. Up the river... a ravine... heavy claws and stinking breath. She jerked back from the edge of the blackness again, startled this time by remembered fear. "Black leather... pulsing flesh... nightmare..." Her thoughts were jumbled, but she remembered. Remembered she had to warn them. That thing... that thing... she couldn't remember why but... it carried something. She might be carrying something. She might be dangerous, had to get them away...

She shuddered and whimpered at the pain for a moment before gritting her teeth again. Too much effort... too much pain. It was too hard. She just had to trust that things would work out... they had to.

In all truth, Roy was at a bit of a loss. In another time and place, he would have known exactly what to do, but this was different. This world was different. Yet, he couldn't just leave this Kitsu to suffer and bleed to death. However, when she started to mumble various different words, he tilted and ear and frowned softly.

"You shouldn't try to talk either. Don't worry, you're going to be all right." The injuries wouldn't be life threatening, as long as she was treated, but Roy was no doctor. The best he could do was remove his cape and use it to try and stop the bleeding from her head and shoulder, which he did. It would be ruined for sure, but it was a small price to pay for assisting someone who was injured.

However, some movement caught his attention and the red head looked up to see yet another Kitsu approaching. "Hey! Would you mind helping me out here?" Introductions and pleasantries could wait until later, right now helping the wounded was more important.

The Exorcist stood still. Only eyes moved as they continued to survey the damage with feigned disinterest. In truth, he still wondered what could have ravaged the victim as it did. And even though ears flicked quickly enough to catch her groggy remembrance of what he guessed was the attacker, there wasn't enough information to come to a certain conclusion. Had she gone a bit further, he might have been able to recall the image of a towering form and hear the disgusting squelch of an opponent he too had faced once. A very dangerous opponent from whom he had been lucky to escape.

Dark eyes finally left the pained female, his face still uncaring. The voice of her rescuer had called him and while he had no intention of helping originally, he was civil enough to at least lend an ear to the request. "Weak," he muttered, speaking as much to the male as the female with a biting tone. In this world as in his last, it was hard to imagine helping someone who couldn't even help themself. Comradery felt more like an illusion than anything else. You couldn't count on others the way you could yourself.

The was a long pause between his actions before he finally turned away, thinking to leave. And yet, as he glanced back with a scowl, it was apparent that he wasn't going to go far. As she suggested through her pain, he stalked back through the trees to the place he had been training before. The two large, leafy tree branches remained exactly where he had left them. Hefting one heavily and awkwardly with his maw, he dragged it back to the two he had left, a look of sheer aggravation on his face.

"Che." He spat after dropping the branch. It looked like they might need both after all. But for now maybe one would work. He had definitely gone way out of his way already and wasn't looking to add to it. "Well, hurry up," he ordered at Roy, his voice laced with a superior air as if mockingly asking why the other male couldn't have done this alone.

Weak? She'd been distracted. She'd run out into the middle of God knows where trying to tire herself out and keep herself from thinking about... Who? The face flashed through her mind along with a fresh bout of emotional pain and a feeling of loss and betrayal. Broken heart...

"Yes." It was said in reply to Kanda's proclamation, with a terse and biting tone all it's own that held more power than her wobbly frame seemed able to hold. She'd been weak, in more ways than one, possibly. Her tone and the grim look on her face indicated that she did not intend to let it happen again.

Once the branch had been retrieved and deposited she peered at it through foggy seeming eyes for a moment. It might hold her weight, but it needed some branches cut off before she could securely lay on it. She tried to stand, but she couldn't make her legs straighten out again. All she really managed was to stumble forward a couple of places and sit back down heavily. More like collapse.

She wanted to help but she just... couldn't right now, and that in combination with her jumbled feelings and confused thoughts was, quite frankly, starting to piss her off. Instead she tried just to sit up, steadying herself on her functional paw and offering a deathglare of frustration to the dirt in front of it. She wanted to piece it all together, to make sense of it, to explain... but the harder she dug into her own mind to try and find the connecting pieces the worse it got.

Fragments of the day before... or whatever day she'd last been conscious before this. But the rest of her memory seemed to be inaccessible, like it had been burned away. Along with pieces of her very self that she couldn't have identified but knew they weren't where they were supposed to be... There was more wrong here than just a fever, but she was just too out of it to try and figure it out.

"Tie me... to it?..." It was all she had to offer right now. That and a place to take her. "HQ..."
