It was early in the day [ Gunn's favorite time to handle any matters that were not solely for pleasure] in the village when Gunnwale entered the building that held the council chambers. It was a short, familiar walk to find the Vhaid's office, and the nautical jivviness nodded respectfully to the Sargtlin standing outside of the door. A good warrior, and though they were nothing more than acquaintances, the two knew each other as any who had been in the village a long time would.
"Ho, there, Hidek. Is the Vhaid available for audience?" Halting about three feet away, she waited as the guard entered the room, smiling as he returned with a calm nod.
"Aye, Gunnwale, he'll see you." Letting Hidek open the door for her, she entered, pausing briefly to listen to it shut behind her before proceeding into the smaller, more personal chamber of Kyros' office.
"Good evening, Vhaid." Her tone was good-natured, relaxed even as she spoke polite, respectful words. She'd never had any problems with the council, and knew Kyros [she was a Vhaid of over three centuries, after all], though they weren't close enough to be friends.

"Gunnwale." Kyros rose from his seat behind the vast desk and moved around to greet her, smiling warmly as he extended a hand. The Vhaid seemed as calm and collected as ever, if perhaps visibly weary, dark bags beneath his eyes marring his otherwise young and handsome face. His office betrayed him, however. The room, normally exceptionally tidy and organized, had crumpled bits of paper strewn about the floor and books lopsided on the shelves. The desk itself was home to a stack of four thick tomes, and pieces of both fresh and shredded parchments. The only thing that seemed at rights was the quill, but recently nested in an inkwell; dark stains on Kyros's fingertips testified to its recent use.
"It is always a pleasure. I am afraid my work keeps me from the market more often than not of late. How has your business been?"

"And my work keeps me from your office, Kyros. It's good to see you again." An equally friendly smile touched her dark face as they shook hands, her careful eyes noticing the clutter but politely choosing not to comment upon it. Instead, she answered his query.
"Oh, it's well. Everyone still enjoys my wares." Choosing to not waste either of their time, she continued smoothly. "Though as the village grows, it becomes more of an effort to provide enough alone at market. I tend to run out by noon of the second day, rather than late afternoon these past few years."
Now her grey eyes shifted to his weary form, his desk. "And yours, Vhaid?"

He caught the train of her speech, and acknowledged as much with a raised brow, but himself responded instead to her question. Gesturing her towards a seat, he moved back around the desk towards his own chair. "I imagine you are much more familiar with my status than I am. I am always the last to hear the rumors, be they good or bad. If I may, it is quite a relief to have a...Vhaid of like mind in my office, for a change."
He seemed to second-guess his words as he took a seat, but he made no further comment. "You were speaking of your difficulty in supplying the Village?"

"Yes. I would like to educate another in my craft. Several others, I hope." Gunn shook her head, a wry smile touching her mouth as she took a seat, shifting just once to become comfortable.
"I'd like to foster children of our rank, if you find me acceptable." Drumming her fingers quietly on the arms of her chairs. "Any that need it, though preferably the youngest."
It would be nice to raise one as she'd been raised, on the boat instead of in the politics of the royals. She'd also really like to have at least one girl. Still, she said nothing, waiting for his thoughts.
