The sun was blazing down on Samual's back from the top of the sky, there was little protection from it's heat where he was wandering. He was clomping along smoothly by the River, headed toward the mountains that broke into the sky ahead of him. He hadn't been traveling for long, though he was admittedly tired of the heat already. He should have listened to Edel and headed out sooner then he had. Now he'd have to put up with the heat, in order to get where he'd planned on going.

That that he ever planned on getting anywhere, but he'd head a few interesting rumors about a medicine woman in the mountains that was rather hard to come by. The stories that surrounded her were pretty gruesome at times, but she generally seemed like she might be of some help. Either way, he definitely should have planned his travels better, or waited until the next day to set out.

"No, I'm really not smart sometimes." He grumbled to himself. He looked over toward the River, which was guided him safely to the mountains, it was cool to look at and a small smile came to his face. His many trinkets caught the light an shined off the cool surface. Sometimes he wondered if he over did things, but really, he was just always prepared.

"But it's so hot, Master. Wouldn't you rather a nice, cool, relaxing place in the shaded forest?" The crow on the wing cast a wistful glance back towards the comfort of cover behind them. Her only response was a small shrug from the sickly looking stallion. Pharaoh clicked her beak softly, frowning at the new change in persona. Usually her lord was much more... social than this. Was it the heat perhaps?

Oh, heat had something to do with it - but it was hardly the kind the bird thought of. Beelzebub trekked on through the pounding of the sun, his mind caught in a place far between the here and now. He was... hungry. Not for the mortal food he munched on for the sake of appearances or to sedate the flesh and bone body of his - no he... he hungered a different kind of hunger. A different kind of pain coursed through his empty belly, a hollow sensation echoing through his... bones? No, no... it wasn't something physical, something carnal... it was something beyond that.

Something he hadn't felt in a long... long time...

"Silly me," sang-songed the demon, lips pulling back tight against his teeth in a feral grin. "I seem to have forgotten to keep a healthy diet for my... heritage." Gliding on the still air above him, Pharaoh gulped, suddenly unease. Her master was a demon... his heritage? She pitted the unfortunate soul he would fi-

Oh. Hello there.

Her eyes caught on something glittering in the sun, swooping ahead to take a closer look. A well rewarded exertion of energy - the sparklers were bits of metal, all adorning another stallion. Here was the unfortunate soul - and her to-be-lunch. She cackled, cawing out in summoning to the demon that hung back. Even from the distance she could see his ears twitch, that grotesque smile growing impossibly so as he picked up the pace. Master was on the hunt.

The demon wanted to play before he ate.

"Poor unfortunate soul~"

The land around Samual had been quiet for some time now, and he grew closer and closer to the building mountains. He would occasionally glance up at the sky for any sign of cloud cover, but of course would be quickly disappointed by the clear blue sky. He must be the only soquili to complain about such a beautiful day.

At last he had decided to give himself a small break, not that he wanted to waste in the sun any longer, he really had to cool down a bit. He slide himself into the river, just as a peculiar sounds caught his ears. He glanced up and caught the glimpse or a black crow who had cawed out to something. Crows were never a good sign to begin with, they like carnage and dead things and well, he certainly wasn't dead. Maybe his armor had attracted it?

He didn't realize that the crow was calling out to a terrible creature that he wouldn't want to meet on a normal day, let alone one like this. Against his better nature, he simply decided to ignore, hoping the bird had just spotted some kind of dead animal elsewhere in the plains.

"Those mangy crows are too much trouble to bother with." With that in mind, he picked up his hooves and continued on toward the Mountain, with the refreshing cool water helping his mood.

Pharaoh tipped her wing, angling herself to spiral down towards the dark stallion, keeping her eyes keen on his valuables. Master wouldn't need those when done, of course... she could take them instead. Yes... yes... he wouldn't be cross for her to pick the carcass of shinnies... oh how her murder would love such precious treasures...

She twitched, however, her talons clenching, as she picked up his words. Mangy, her?! Oh yes... she would dance with his entrails for sure! No-class whelp! "The heat only brings out the worst in people, surely it does," she snarled to the world.

Her appetite wet, she landed carefully a distance away from the target, perching herself elegantly upon a small rock sticking from the river bank. "Makes it quite a bad day for a stroll, don't you think?" she cackled cheerfully to the other, preening her inky feathers as she listened to the approaching sound of other hooves, the hurtful words from before slipping from her mind with glee. "Such a bad, bad day indeed..."

Beelzebub chuckled, a slick sound that bubbled and popped like a tar pit. So bored, so bored... this wander might just make a fine little toy. Perhaps he might even last a while... oh he did so hope so~

"Pharaoh, sweet, don't patronize our dear guest. Best be nice to company, don't you agree, stranger~?" Slowly, carefully, the sickly sweet smile that had spread across his face seemed to seep into his steps as he began to draw nearer to him. "Like, perhaps, play a game..? Yes... a game is such a perfect way to meet someone~"

User Image

"Don't think anyone wants to play your kinds of games, Beelzebub."

The day had actually started pretty normal, go figure. Wake up earlier than her mother and most of her siblings who remained in the area, but later than her father and brothers. Take some time for training till Kione wakes up, then start off into some exploration. Usual, common, normal... so what made the world decide to switch things up and throw that thing into her day? Steadily, the young mare made her way down the opposite side of the river, ears slightly back as her muscles relaxed - liquid movements, just as she'd been taught and self-developed.

Her amber gaze drifted briefly to the one the demon had been stalking, a snort light from her muzzle. "Just beat it, old man." Edana smirked, tail flicking as she came to a halt at the water's edge. "Unless you're looking for a fight, that is..?"

The crow twitched, launching herself into the air with a shriek. "Insolent, brat!" The mare only shrugged, lowering herself into a position posed to attack. She'd heard enough about this monster to know better than to pay attention to the small fry. No, her attention was on Beelzebub, and him alone.

"Leave 'im, Beelzebub. Find your dinner elsewhere."

Samual stared after the crow as it flew off a short distance, just so it could snap at him and inform him abo0ut what a bad day it was. It wasn't bad, or at least he had no reason to think it was bad till now. Now, he was being annoyed to death by a stupid crow. This, obviously, wouldn't be the first time that someone had bugged him to death just because of his shiny armor. He had a feeling that must have been what called her over.

That was when he realized who was following after her. He wasn't the worst sight he'd ever seen. As a Lieutenant in an army you really get to see some scary things, but her was certainly very intimidating. It was like carnage decided to get up and walk right into him, he certainly had picked a bad day to head into the mountains. His words were even stranger, but a clear invitation to run for his life.

"Whatever game you intend to play, I don't think I'll have a problem winning." Samual wasn't really that stupid, he knew he stood only a small chance against the imposing stallion before him. If he got the chance, he'd make a break for it, though he had a feeling the crow would fly after him. In all honesty he didn't have a great shot at making into out of here.

And who should show up then, but a dainty little mare, he tried to wave her away with a little flick of his head, but she wasn't paying him any attention, her eyes were focused on, Beelzebub. That was an interesting name, and one he wouldn't soon forget. She must know him from somewhere, and by the crows reaction to her, their relationship wasn't a very happy one.

He was shocked when she lowered her ready, ready to fight against the terrible creature before them. What was she thinking? Was she really that stupid? Besides! That was supposed to be his next move! What in the world did she think she would accomplish by this, other then getting them both killed?

The grotesque stallion seemed to pause then, his twisted sweet smile flickering towards the other male. "Would you? Oh, I would love to see how you would do such a thing..." His voice trailed, sickly yellow gaze flickering to the tan mare, and just as suddenly, he began to pout. "But someone had to be a spoil-sport and ruin all my fun~" A flick of a switch, and his entire demeanor changed, no longer a slithering threat, but rather... rather... idiotic. "Don't remember you being such a buzz killer when you were little, Eddy~"

Edana's ears flicked back, head lowering as her expression darkened ever so slightly. "Get lost, creep." Thoughts of this monster stalking the long stretch of woods where she played as a foal - never mind lives - were not pleasant things. "Really wanna try your luck in a fair fight?"

"No, I suppose not... not as fun," he sighed, casting Samuel one last look of longing. Pharaoh above was screeching in her fury, though no clear words could be heard. Really, the duo were almost pathetic looking now, though Edana still kept her gaze hard. At last, Beelzebub's drooping form gave a large heave, and he turned back towards direction form which he'd came, pouting and huffing and moving... a bit quicker than he had before. "No fun at all today~ ho hum. Guess I'll just have to look elsewhere..."

The mare gave a snort, and shaking her head, hopped some rocks to cross the water that had separated herself from her and the two males, giving the retreating figure a final glare before rounding on the black stallion with a raised brow and a skeptical look on her face. "Ya some kind'a moron? Don't they teach ya to avoid demons where yer from?" Blunt as ever, her ever increasing "less educated" language slipped through once again. Her? A knight? Bull. Her eyes zipped around the various shinnies he wore, the back of her mind formulating various plans for how she could try to steal them.

Since she was a thief.

Klepto, but still.

Threat was gone, this guy has shinnies... shouldn't she be getting a reward for saving his a**?

Samual couldn't believe what was happening, this big scary, tough, stallion that had been picking on him a few moments ago, was now backing off because he was afraid of some mare? What kind of weirdo was that dude? He glanced on the mare, to see if he'd missed anything at all intimidating about her. She looked fairly plain, even though she had a bit of a rough accident and some harsh eyes. He didn't see any obvious reason to be afraid of her, but he couldn't really complain could he? Who was he to be so positive that he was have survived a second against that crazed stallion and his creepy bird? Of course, all of his kind thought went out to the wind at what she said next.

He huffed, instantly acting as big as he knew he was. "I could have handled myself just fine for your information! I'm not a lieutenant for nothing, y'know!" And he wasn't, he'd worked extra hard for his title, even though it meant little to anyone of importance now. His spot next to royalty had be torn away, and now he was just your average, everyday, knight-in-shining-armor. Which was a bit to literal.

He wasn't stupid either, he caught her eyes wandering to his countless shiny possessions, like she'd be walking away with anything of his anytime soon. "If you think you'll be getting some sort of reward for savin' my butt, well sorry, that won't be happin'." He rolled his blue eyes, and took another good look at her. He noticed, oddly, that she was actually prety if you could get past that klepto look in her eyes.

The tan mare made a rude sound of disbelief, clicking her tongue as she turned her head to view him sidelong. "Titles ain't worth much dead," Edana retorted bleakly, shifting her gaze to the horizon where the demon had slipped off to. It was strange to find the beast anywhere but the woods, at least in her experience. A strange demon, a master of rot and decay - and just as stinky. She'd heard talk between her mother and unofficial uncle of sorts, Jaci - the old dark stallion had history with the demented creature.

It was that history that kept her and her family safe, supposedly. Though to hear Beelzebub cackle and swoon over something about her heritage... she shook her head slightly to clear the unpleasant thoughts. The demon would leave her and her family be. That's all she cared for. Though, and this new thought struck as she once more eyed the male she'd just saved, apparently that safety could extend to the fools they encounter. Something to keep in mind, that's for sure.

Her expression fell upon hearing his sudden remark, scowling. "I save yer hide from the demon of decay and this my thanks?" Edana gave a huff, allowing herself to wistfully view the strange metal objects and straps - particularly that leg of armor he wore - for a few moments more before giving him a disgruntled glare. "Say what ya will 'bout takin' care of yerself, Beelzebub ain't... normal. Ya might be fine w'anyone else, won't argue ya on yer skills, but 'gainst him..." She shrugged, letting the subject drop on an dead (harhar) note.

"The hell even brings ya out this way?" Her tone was lighter now, more conversational and curious than accusing or sarcastic. "Been livin' in this area my whole life ain't seen someone like ya before 'round here." Being the adventurer and collector that she was, the second eldest McSwan girl made it quite a point to keep at least general tabs on those in the area.

If she stole something from someone, she thought it best to make sure she knew enough about them to ensure they wouldn't suddenly come after her to get their belongings back.

Samual was a bit surprised by some of the things she said. She had a point if he had died, which was still unlikely, then his title would mean nothing. Not that it had meant much before. Years ago it had been something amazing, but since getting kicked out of his old family it had meant little to him. At least they hadn't stripped him of his title. That would have torn him to pieces. Still, he decided not to comment about her statement. It would likely just lead to her getting angry with him, and she had actually just saved his life (maybe). So, the least he could do was try to stay civil.

He wasn't happy that she still wanted something for saving his life. Sure, he was a little more thankful now that she had totally freaked him out about that odd character. But he still wasn't about to give her one of his shinnies or anything. Maybe he could make something for her later, but for now she's just have to live with his thanks. "Well then, I guess I should thank you for running him off." He wondered what she had on the demon, that he wouldn't just tear through her and then to him.

She went right on talking though, about how she'd been living in the area her whole life. For him, this was the first time that he had followed the river so far. It was the quickest way to Mountains, and he knew he wouldn't get lost this way. "I was heading into the Mountains, I've heard a few interesting stories about a mare up there. I was hoping she might have something I've been looking for." He smiled, happy about the casual turn the conversation had taken.

He hoped this wasn't some ploy to gain his trust, and then take his things when he least expected it.

Edana would have grinned if she knew her words had made an impact. Combative she might be, but one to throw her life away, she was not. Even she was cautious when it came to risky situations, having no desire to not return to her family each night. Silently, she wondered if the stallion had any such ties, anyone he at some point would return to. He had a title after all, had to get it from somewhere, right?

Maybe she should have sat back a bit longer to see how he really did fair against the demon. Could have been interesting to see the lieutenant fight. Ah well.

She did grin oh so cockily when he - somewhat - thanked her for her aid. "Yer certainly welcomed, Lieutenant." Stretching out one front leg, her heart bracelet tinkling softly at the moment, she gave him a mockingly low bow. As she straightened back up though, a friendly smile was on her face, adding with a genuine laugh, "Glad ya ain't the stuffy sort to be all a huff over bein' saved by a girl." If anything, he seemed like a nice sort, even if she had a trouble keeping her eyes off his possessions and focused on his eyes instead. They were bright enough to keep her attention, at least. Had he taken offense to her aid, she wouldn't have hesitated to strip him of his shinnies to the best of her ability. Considering he was being quite civi, however...

She could keep her muzzle to herself, she supposed.

Her ear twitched, head cocking to the side in interest. "The mountains? Really now." Her gaze shifted towards the impressive structures far further up the river. The opposite direction where the demon had headed, at least, a relief. Glancing back at him, she gave a quick jerk of her head in the direction of his goal, and began to walk in the direction herself. "Never hurts t'walk'n'talk," she told him cheerfully. "Now what y'searchin' for that some ol' mountain hag should have? If y'don't mind me askin', of course." Not that she'd herself heard such stories of a mare up there, but he had her curious.

Samual was really trying to be nice, it's not that he wouldn't usually be a bit surprised to be saved by a female. However, he had worked with some wonderful female warriors in the past and she somehow reminded him of them. In a weird, spunky sort of way. Except....she wasn't really dressed like one and she didn't exactly speak like one...or act like one. Really the only thing they had in common was the fact that they were female. But what did that matter anyway? Samual was done being a Lieutenant. he still used the title out of habit, and he was welcome back to his old post at any time, but he stood his ground with being done.

"I've worked with some very talented female warrior's before. I don't tend to have any...biased thinking toward ladies anymore." He gave her a little wink. He watched her turn her gaze toward the mountains and then followed her as she started to head toward them. Looks like he just gained himself a traveling companion. He wondered if this was some ploy or her's, or if she needed the company as much as he did.

"A close friend of my suffered a recent tragedy. He saved some dummy from a Kalona, only to loose his sight from the big ole' beast. Usually Danae would be able to handle a wound like this on his own, but he's having a hard time adjusting. I've know his mother for a few years now, and she told me of this medicine woman and asked me if I could see if she could maybe help. I doubt she'll be able to do anything crazy like save his sight, but maybe she'll have something to help it heal better." He was around for Danae while the young one grew up. And he had known the troubles his mother had gone through raises him and being abandoned by his father, who also took their daughter with him.

So, he was fast to accept the 'mission' for Edel. He would do anything for that crazy blue family. So long as they didn't poke him with those spikey tail's of their's....
PostPosted: Tue Aug 09, 2011 4:16 pm

A brow rose to hear of female warriors. Not that she hadn't heard of tales from her father, but this stallion didn't seem to be her father's specific brand of fighter. Similar, sure - armor meets armor, militant title meaning there was some form of organization - but not an exact copy. Perhaps it was the differences in age? Culture? She made a mental note to inquire where the stranger came from, should the conversation allow.

He certainly seemed like he might be more of her brand of fighter, though, a sly smirk slipping into place by his wink. "Nice t'hear. Would be a shame for a strapping lad like yerself t'be ruined by chauvinistic tendencies." Big words were not usually part of her vocabulary, but her mother imprinted enough flowery words into her brain as a foal for them to slip to the surface now and then. A rare now and then, but hey. Least she could prove she had something of a brain in her skull. But her smile was still friendly, not seeking to offend him with her commentary. Might have had a few words for him when she first came across him, but without the presence of the demon and his feather duster, he seemed almost charming. Not at all bad company to run across.

Edana was pleased when he fell into step beside her. She wasn't sure how far she would go with him, but she felt little need to go her separate way for the moment. It wasn't unlike her to vanish for a spell as it was, though somewhere in the back of her mind she noted Kione would be less than thrilled....

The story drew her out of her thoughts, flicking her gaze to him as she listened. Her heart went out to the injured hero, scowling heavily as she grumbled, "Hope the idiot learned a lesson from all that." Shaking her head, she couldn't help but appreciate the kindness of this stallion's quest. Perhaps she'd stick around, after all. If only to see what a medicine woman could do for this Danae. "Hope he finds a way t'adjust, yer Danae. Sure his mom must love ya for ya bein' willin' t'help like this." She'd certainly appreciate it, at any rate. But a fact stuck to her, and she recalled the question she was newly curious about. "Ya from 'round here, then? Or'd you hail from elsewhere b'fore y'met this kid's mom?" Well, he'd given her an opening to flick the question in, at least.

If Samual could ever find, or even know, who the stallion was that had run off to leave Danae alone to deal with a Kalona he's make sure the guy knew just what he had cost the smaller blue stallion. However, with Danae's vision gone and the fact he hadn't seen the stallion himself, he doubted he'd ever find out. So instead, he'd just work to do whatever he could for his close friend, one of few he had these days after running from home. He preferred being alone anyway, yet he was more then happy to have the company of the female walking along side of him. She reminded him of home in a nice way, and well, she was good company. Not dull at all.

He listened to her chatter as they walked along the river, heading toward the mountain home of this mysterious medicine woman. He froze for a second as she asked where he was from. Should he admit the truth to her? Would she continue to keep him company if he did? Would she judge him poorly like most? Questions raced around in his head before he could remember that he needed to keep moving. Every second mattered.

He cleared his throat and began a long tale of a noble 'kingdom' of horses not too far away from the lands he traveled now. How he had been raised a Knight by his parents who personally protected the heirs of this Kingdom. He spoke a of battle that broke it chaos. They had been caught off guard, during a ceremony of theirs, and were outnumbered at first. Then he sighed, "But, the main family was very corrupt and their mistreated their Knights. I took the chaos as a time to run....I'm sure I'm not welcome there ever again. Nor do I wish to go back. I regret my decisions from time to time. But I was younger then, and everyone makes mistakes." He looked to her a sad look in his eyes. It all honesty the leaders may have been corrupt, but the innocent people of the kingdom did not deserve his abandonment. He had let many people down that day, and for all he knew they could all be dead now.

The halt in the Lieutenant's step had certainly caught her eye, slowing her own gait until he began to move once more. Something she said, clearly. Though she'd been about to ask him what was so uncomfortable of her asking his origins--for really, what was personal space and privacy to one who made a living and longing out of theft?--but the sound of him clearing his throat held her tongue. Expectantly. Not disappointed in the slightest when he began to weave his tale.

Tales similar, in fashion, to those she grew up on. Those her father would spin and weave and recall from his own home, bedtime stories that both soothed and thrilled her as a foal. Adventures she'd replay in her head again and again, fuel to her games and fires as she trained. For a moment, she lapsed into a similar sense of content excitement, eased by the familiar tones and concepts of his tale. Her skin prickled though as the tones began to change, recalling how the battle formed, and instead of standing his ground...

He ran.

Edana turned her flaming eyes towards him, narrowed and accompanied by a deep scowl. Corrupt? While it didn't surprise her to hear those with power were less than fair with it, it didn't justify his actions. Even to hear he'd been mistreated--how?--though that at least had her eyes close, head turning back ahead and shaking. "T'is no excuse. Yer a knight b'blood, yer't act the part. How's abandonin' yer post, yer people, a knight's act?" There was no hypocrisy in how she spoke. Even a thief had her vows and honor, her home. "Even if ya let the battle claim yer piss-poor leader's lives... ain't that a better endin' then abandonin' all others?" Of course, that bit of her logic might not have likely sat well with the rest of her family. Truth, even Edana's own stomach knotted at the thought. She didn't know what he'd experienced, what this royal family did. Their deaths certainly could have been... reasonable, though. If given the right circumstances.

Letting out a breath, she looked back towards the dark stallion with almost a sympathetic look. "But. Yer makin' amends, I'd say. Helpin' this boy and his mom. Might be knight's honor in ya yet." The last portion she said lighter, kinder. She knew nothing of the exact circumstances around his departure. She knew now only the actions and situation they were conducted in. Could guess an outcome. Base her opinions around these thoughts, her own conflict with such actions. "I make judgment on what I see'n hear. Yer tellin' me ya left yer people, gotta question what kinda stallion ya are. Tellin' me ya tryin' to help this boy... yer not lookin' like as much a coward. Makes me curious to see exactly what kinda bein' ya are."

Her eyes lingered on him a moment, eyes hard as if peering at him long enough would expose all secrets. Still, she gave a smile, a lazy laugh. "Realized. Here I am passin' judgement, and I don't even know yer name. Parents call me Edana. Yer welcome to it, or Ed if ya'd more prefer. Yerself?"

Samual had predicted this sort of response from her, it was one often accompanied by those who heard his tale. Few responded differently, and many took some convincing to get past that again. his ears drew back a bit, always saddened to be reminded that what he did was wrong. It's not like he needed to be reminded though, he knew when he did it that it was wrong.

"To be fair I did fight that day. I fought until I realized what I was fightin' for didn't deserve my service. I could have been their prized champion that day, but I didn't want them to have that satisfaction. My parents wouldn't understand. They were too old and brain-washed to know any better..." Still, he missed them dearly more and more every day. If he were to seek them out however, if they even survived, he knew he would be shunned by them unless by some miracle they'd discovered the corruption themselves.

She seemed to turn her tone back around though and he relaxed a bit. At least he hadn't run her off with his story.. He always believed honesty was the best thing, so whenever asked he always sat back and retold his small history. No he wasn't from here, but already it felt more like home then home ever had. He smiled as her introduction, feeling a little silly for not thinking of it sooner himself. "I'm Samual, or if you wish just Sam. It's nice to meet cha Ed. I have a long road to walk if you wanna get to know be better." They had the whole length or the river to follow toward the mountain in the hot summer sun.
