~HEARTFELT TOURNAMENT~

Welcome to the Heartfelt Tournament!

Heartfelt Tournament is an Heartfelt Adventure fic that I've had in my head for awhile now. Now, I've finally gotten the inspiration and drive to do it! The story involves the entire cast of HA(All active and some not) I know sometimes figuring out the personality of every character is difficult, so please bear with me if I get your characters a bit off, but I'm pretty good at it, so there shouldn't be anything THAT off. If you have any pointers on how I have portrayed your character and suggestions on how to write them better, I'd appreciate it.

If you absolutely do not want your character included in the story, let me know immediately so I can remove them. But I can't see any reason you wouldn't want to have them in it so by default I am including all characters unless anyone objects.

Anyway, that said, on with the show!

~Chapter 0 - Prologue~

[[Disney Train - Grassy Clearing]]

It was another boring, quiet morning on the Disney Train as everyone gathered around in the dining car for breakfast. A quiet morning, that is, until the loud chanting of Rio, Kyle, and Maggie yelling, "Food!" over and over until the oversized cook lost his temper.

"Would ye shut yer traps yar roudy bunch of runts!"

Rio pushed him again with another hearty, "FOOD!"

Silver gave a heavy sigh as Rae chuckled in her seat next to Al, "She's the baby, gotta love 'er!" resulting in a spread of stifled laughter across the car. In the same booth as Rae and Al sat Bobbi, behind her in the opposite direction was Evan, next to him Mathew, across the table making it the male dominated booth was Ben and Irvine. That dominance didn't last long however because Irvine was out of the seat in seconds when a seat became available at the table occupied by the new girls, Dawn, Dani, and Amy.

Irvine smiled his usual way, revealing that he was, as usual, up to no good, only to be thwarted by a cough and a foot tapping on the floor. He turned to see Noelle looming over him with a smile of her own. Like a dog with his tail between his legs he scampered back over to his seat as she took her's back.

Kichi entered the room followed by Timmy and then Jenny. Kichi rubbed the sleep from his eyes as he was ALMOST the last person to wake up. Behind all of those three, dropped in Sora, who looked like the worst of them all. Probably sleep walking at this point, Sora dragged in and sat down, drooping over and laying his head on the person next to him in the booth, who happened to be poor Kyla, who was almost too nice to push the sleepy keyblader off.

Kichi and Timmy sat together at the nearest booth, and started chatting away. Jenny sat next to Maggie, who was having a fan girl moment over sleepy Sora still resting his head on Kyla's shoulder, despite her best, but far too gentle efforts. Sora mumbled in his sleep something about Kairi, causing another small fan-girl squee out of Maggie. Jack walked by at the moment, just passing through the car with his bottle of rum in hand. He turned and saw the comical situation giving a small chuckle and shedding some light on the keyblader's dreams, "That ain't your girly, mate."

With that, Sora slowly came back to the real world and realized what he'd been doing. Stammering for an apology, he stood up and ran over to sit next to Riku, avoiding any eye contact with Kyla for the rest of breakfast.

Breakfast itself was a bit quieter as the group was too busy filling their hungry bellies. A sign of contentment came from just about all of them as each finished their meal.

The following silence was broken first by Kyle, who as always seemed to assume the leader's role, "So? Anything new on the letter?"

Rae, who was currently holding onto it opened it up with a shake of her head, "Nope, nothing today either."

"That makes it two days straight!" James said turning in his seat to look at Rae and Kyle.

"Maybe the bad guys went on vacation?" Rio said with a huge smile causing a few laughs, but not many.

Everyone sat there for a moment before Maggie suggested another alternative, "Maybe it's broken?"

"How can you break a magic piece of paper?" Al asked seeing that suggestion silly as well.

"I don't knoooow. I was just trying to think of an explanation." Maggie retorted sticking her tongue out.

"Maybe we've been relying on it too much? Maybe we should be doing this the old fashioned way like Sora did... travel around and find people who need help by ourselves?" Kichi suggested, but was quickly shot down by Bobbi.

"If you'd like to get us another train, or go by foot, be our guest." Bobbi said sarcastically.

"We have chocobos." Timmy said supporting his friend.

"I think I'll pass." she replied with a small hint of an attitude. The past several days... having nothing to do, being stuck in the train or the woods outside, and the growing suspicion that something was going to happen... had caused some of the tension to rise among the earthlings.

"Cool it, ice queen. There's nothing wrong with his suggestion." Zexion spoke for the first time that morning, "And he's right. Maybe we are relying too much on a piece of paper to lead us to where we need to be."

"Look, all I asked was did the letter have any new names... we don't need to have a debate over this. No decisions need to be made just yet. We can wait a few more days... it's not going to kill us." Kyle said trying to be the voice of reason and logic aside from Zexion.

The new group of earthlings mostly stayed quiet, besides Evan who seemed to groan over the annoying conversation and left the room. A couple other did the same and filed out. Kyle sighed and spoke evaluating his own words carefully in order to not ignite another fight, "OK... so it hasn't come up with a name. We should be happy... it means we get some well needed rest, and no one is in any danger."

"But what if-" Kyla spoke up only to be cut off.

"We can't dwell on what if 's. We need to concentrate on what is right now. And right now, we're all safe, and so far, no one else is in danger, so we don't have to be either." Zexion explained calmly as ever.

Everyone sort of nodded in agreement, and so Kyle smiled and stood up, "So! Who's up for some practice sparring!"

Suddenly, the ground shook violently, and everyone in the train grabbed hold of something to keep them from falling over.

"So much for being safe!" Rae yelled over the rumbling and clanging plates and silverware.

Rio screamed out the obvious question as loud as she could, "What's going on?!" Right as she finished however, her voice trailed off when the earthquake quit.

"An earthquake?" Kichi asked looking around at everyone.

"In Kingdom Hearts?" Jenny added brushing off the crumbs of a piece of toast that fell off the table onto her dress during the quake.

Just as their minds settled down, Matthew came busting through the door, a huge look of excitement on his face, "Guys come out here! You have to see this!"

As everyone filed out of the train one by one, they stared at the marvel before them. A huge flat slab of... glass stood in front of them about 50 feet in the air and as wide as a train car. The group of earthlings, game, and movie characters stood around without saying a word, observing the strange object that simply appeared out of nowhere.

"Did anyone see where this came from?" Riku asked, looking over at Matthew who was the one who alerted almost everyone to its presence.

"Don't look at me... Dani's the one who saw it first."

"Ok. Did DANI, see where it came from?"

"Well, it just sorta, burst out of the ground in the middle of that earthquake." Dani answered quietly.

Maggie stepped forward and poked the glass, "Well, it doesn't feel dangerous."

Zexion was almost in shock at her naivety, "An unknown object explodes out of the ground... in the middle of an earthquake... coincidentally in front of the train we travel in... and you touch it."

"Yep!" Maggie said poking it again, followed by Rio who did the same yelling, "POKE!"

"Maybe it's best we DON'T mess with it until we have some idea what it is?" James cautioned the two girls, who showed their deep disappointment with a huge, over dramatic sigh.

" 'ow bout we all get back 'nside now." said Silver who was already walking away.

"Alright! Everyone back insi-" Kyle yelled before stopping mid-sentence when the giant slab of glass shimmered and glowed.

On it's glowing surface, one by one everyone's reflection came into view. Then, one by one, faces were filtered out until only earthlings remained. Noelle turned and looked around, no one had left, they were all still standing there like before, looking at the strange anomaly in front of them.

Those who looked at the reflection, started seeing deeper, and deeper into the reflection. Bit by bit the reflection gained a background, they could see themselves, not standing with the train behind them and woods behind that, but only a large white expanse. That expanse, seemed to grow closer, in fact, the mirror itself seemed to grow closer, and bigger the more they looked into it. It was only a second before nearly everyone felt as though they were not looking into a mirror, but a window into another place. The large mirror glowed all the more, growing in intensity, until it blinded everyone.

[[Louis : Seymour's Castle - Main Hall]]

Louis sat at Seymour's throne, fiddling with his spherical machina. He couldn't figure out how to get it running! He tried everything from looking for an on switch, to placing his hands around it like a crystal ball, to saying magic words, to even checking it it had a place for batteries. Louis stared into the machina trying to see something, but was only successful in seeing himself in the reflection.

Seymour and Cory had left to do an 'errand' and wouldn't be back for awhile. Louis didn't really understand it. What kind of 'errands' did two dead guys have to run? And why wasn't he brought along?!

Louis drummed his fingers on the machina, making funny faces into it, "Stupid thing... Works just fine when Seymour uses it, but when I try to watch some TV freaking thing has a parental block or something." Louis kicked the machina in frustration, releasing a small sparkle and flash. Louis looked back at it with sudden interest, "Did it work?!"

Disappointed, he was once more only looking at his reflection. Something was different this time though, there was something in the glass, something behind his own reflection that he couldn't make out. It seemed just white, lots of white, "Maybe I did get it working?"

Louis stared at it from a good bit, before suddenly the white expanse lit up and caused him to close his eyes tightly. Before he knew it, he was dragged along for a ride he definitely didn't sign up for... everyone was... and what a wild ride it would be.

[[Michelle : Disney Castle -> Somewhere else?]]

Michelle felt like she was falling, she opened her eyes, looking up at the quickly retreating frame holding a picture of the ornate room in Disney castle in which she had been sitting in only moments before brushing her hair, "Wha?! What's going on?!"

She turned around and stared down, to see a fast approaching white floor. She braced herself but did so in vein as her speed slowed until she dropped out of an identical mirror to the one in Disney castle only bigger so that her body fit through without a problem.

"W-Where am I?" She asked, looking around helplessly for an answer, but there was no one there to answer her.

"HELLO!!!" She yelled out into the empty area, she took the chance to look around, and take note that where ever she was, it was a giant white dome, featureless besides the tiled floor she stood on.

When her faith in being rescued seem to vanish, she was surprised as a multitude of other mirrors appeared scattered all over the massive dome. Out of them, several bodies fell out onto the floor. One individual nearby fell out on their head, squeaking in displeasure.

"Maybe I'm not alone in this after all." she sighed in relief. She paused her thoughts when one giant mirror appeared high above her, easily viewable by all who were there. It was blank for a moment, then it flashed, revealing an empty room, and a empty chair.

[Cue: Music]

"Heellllooooooooo!" A disturbingly happy voice echoed out of the mirror and all over dome as everyone stood to their feet and looks at the empty room in the picture above them, "Welcome! To my house of pain and destruction!" The voice laughed hysterically, before a familiar face popped in upside down in the mirror. No matter where you were standing, the picture always looked the same and he was definitely upside down. Kefka had a huge sadistic grin on his face as he pranced gleefully around to the front of the picture and sat in the seat sideways, "Well! If it isn't the little heroes always running around saving the day! What a coincidence you're here! I'm so glad you could make it! I've had this entire dome prepared, JUST for you! All of this in your honor! I hope you give me a good show little kiddies because I've gone and given you everything you needed for the party!"

The insane villain got off his chair and scooted as close as he could to the edge of the massive projected screen holding up 3 fingers, "I've prepared the guests, the transportation, and even the entertainment! Oh... don't worry about the food! You won't really need it in there! Besides... you'll be too busy killing each other!" The mad man went on another string of laughter before continuing, "That's right! You all have to fight each other! WHY? Because if you don't you all die! I have this entire dome rigged to blow up! And if one of you... doesn't defeat another every 30 minutes, I'll have to go a press the BIG, RED, PRETTY BUTTON and burn you all, ALIVE! Ahahahahahahaha! Give me a good show! You wouldn't want me to insult the host would you?! Now... BEGIN!" The clown laughed all the way until the mirror vanished.

Just like that, the tiles shifted around, and split as walls made their way through creating a giant maze. The maze separated everyone in the dome, and left them stranded without anyone with them.

Just as they thought it was all over, somebody turned Kefka's mirror on again as he added, "Oh, I forgot! The rules! There's only three!" the clown chuckled as he listed them off, "One: No trying to jump the maze walls! It looks one of you has already tried to do so.-" The massive mirror showed a zoomed in picture of Kirstin, brushing down her now frizzed hair, " B: No trying to break out of the dome! If you do, the whole place goes boom! That includes any portals and such!-" Louis dropped his hand from where he WAS going to open up a dark corridor out, "Third: There are no rules! Feel free to use whatever underhanded schemes, and skills, and lies, and back stabbing, and torture, and- Oooo! I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about it!"

Kefka laughed once more before adding, "I GUESS that means that you can do all that temaworksavestheday stuff... but if you don't defeat someone every 30 minutes, you all go boom! You get me? Cuz I just hate hate hate hate haaaaaat-tah... people who are just so NICE!"

Kefka laughed his way off again, once more leaving everyone alone. As the first movements were being made, Kefka interrupted again with a laugh, "Oh! And the timer started ticking when I said Heeellllooooooooooooo!" Kefka paused then yelled, "So get moving! Ahahahaha!"

[Chapter 1 ~ The Princess and Her Knight]

Kyle walked taking turns randomly through the maze deep in his thoughts, He wants us to fight each other and defeat another person every 30 minutes? Does that mean each of us individually has to defeat another person? Or just one of us be defeated every 30 minutes? If the first is the case than this whole thing will be over rather quickly... but that also means we need to find someone we can actually bring ourselves to fight. Dangit Kefka! Of all people he only wants the most amount of suffering and despair as possible out of this. He has us on a 30 minute timer so we feel we need to rush and find someone... but... if that's the case... we're only rushing to find one of our friends... and for what? To defeat them? What does he mean by defeat anyway? Beat up? Knock out? Or Kill? Knowing Kefka... the last one.

Kyle in his thoughts was interrupted as a wall next to him shifted and dropped into the floor as a wall grew up ahead of him. "The Maze is moving? Dangit! You really can't have any sense of direction in this place. You can't even turn back the way you came you can only go forward... destroying all sources and sense of security... some people find comfort that there's always a place to run back to... somewhere familiar... but in this place... they have nothing."

Kyle rounded another blind corner and ran flat into another wandering individual. The shorter figure fall backwards holding tightly to her sketchbook, "OoooW! Watch where you're going Kyle!" Kyla growled rather annoyed, it seemed this place was really getting to her pretty badly.

"Sorry Kyla. I didn't see you there." Kyle replied offering her a hand up apologetically.

Kyla helped herself up, brushing herself off, "Yeah, I appreciate you making fun of my height."

"Comeon Kyla... you know it wasn't anything like that."

Kyla sighed, "Yeah, I know."

The two stood there for a moment, an awkward silence looming over them finally broken by Kyle, "So... I guess we should start looking for the others."

"Oh? You're not going to fight me?" Kyla said with a smile.

Kyle laughed in response, "Of coarse I wouldn't fight you Kyla. We're friends, we have to stick together." Kyle smile big to reassure her, "Besides, there's strength in numbers. If we work together, we'll have a better chance against anyone else around that might actually want to attack us."

"Riiight." Kyla said awkwardly tightening her hold on her notebook.

The two of them started walking down the hall following the same direction Kyle had been walking side by side. they stayed silent, neither could utter a word at this point to break the silence. Kyle returned to his thoughts contemplating who they might run into... the rules still hanging heavily on him. He stayed entrenched in his thoughts as Kyla's pace slowed and she slowly fell behind him. he didn't hear anything from her for awhile, but he could still hear her footsteps to show she wasn't falling too far behind. He tried slowing his pace in case she might just be a slow walker, but he didn't pay too much attention to it... he had stuff to figure out. Kyle could hear the scribble of a pen on paper. Kyle tilted his head to the side to glance back at her, she seemed very into whatever she was writing so as he turned and looked back forward he asked, "So Kyla, what're you writing?" When no answer came, he paused his mental synapses made a million more connections a second as he came to a realization, Kyla doesn't write...

Kyle spun around dropping to one knee, his spear came to his hand spinning like a fan as 10 birn strikes smashed against his parry, "Kyla! What the hell?!"

"Well... um... we need to fight each other in order to survive... and... I'd rather not die... and... if I don't defeat someone in the next 30 minutes... we'll all die... so... um... can you just die please kay thanks!" Kyla's quill raced across the page as Kyla approached at lightning speed. Kyle just about reached her when an ethereal wall formed between himself and her, stopping his spear from cutting through her notebook.

"Kyla! Stop this! We don't have to be fighting! You're only playing into his hands!"

"Sorry Kyle... there's no way I can trust you now... after all... you even came at me with that spear of yours. Guess we have no choice now.. we'll have to go at each other with everything we've got!"

Kyla made 3 lines across her drawn wall, and three spike consequently formed on the ethereal wall in front of her. Swiftly drawing movement lines, the wall rocketed forward. Behind Kyle was only a dead end, had he even been paying attention to where he was going... or maybe the maze changed itself while he was distracted by her? Either way, he needed an exit.

Kyle ran away towards the dead end, he couldn't jump over it, there was some sort of barrier at the tops of the walls, so he'd need to go through it! Kyle brought his hand far out to his side, holy energy gathering on it. He rushed at the wall and at the last second threw it forward, releasing a charged banish spell that blew out an escape route. Kyle jumped through the hole just in time as the drawn wall skewered several spiked through it behind him.

Kyle took a deep breath glad to have escaped her trap, "Kyla... really would have killed me."

"I'm not done yet!" Kyla's voice came through the wall. The spikes glowed, and then the very weapon she sicked after him exploded opening up a wide entrance for her to follow through. Beside her, already a ethereal sword floated then rocketed off to meet him in their new hallway. Kyle clashed with it swinging back and forth to parry the ghost blade away from cutting him to shreds.

Kyle couldn't do much against her onslaught, meanwhile she was drawing away on some new project, completely ignoring him and letting her blade do all the work. Kyle sighed mentally, She's really serious about this. Fine... I'd hate to disappoint her!

Kyle jumped back away from the sword, bringing his spear around him and allowing it to collect holy energy like he had with the banish spell on his palm. The sword approached quickly and swung low at his legs. Kyle jumped over it and landed on the sword, as it raised up to try and strike him, he used the flat of it as a spring. It launched him forward, and he readied his spear and she readied her quick. Their eyes locked, and he released his attack. He swung his spear around as hard as he could even though he was only half way to her. The force of his own attack sent his torso backwards as his legs kept flying forward. A wave of holy energies gushed out and flowed down the small hallway like a torrential flood. It tore at the walls it passed by leaving gashes several inches deep like the claws of some tiger or lion. Kyla's eyes widened, she hadn't expected anything like this. DIVINE WAVE!

The wall she drew was quickly washed away in the flow along with her. She was swiftly picked up like a rag doll and launched backwards and slammed against the farthest wall in that direction. Her notebook flew up in a flurry of scattered pages and vanished into holes of darkness. She slowly got to her feet, she still had some distance between herself and Kyle, and she could probably have continued fighting, but instead she ran down the closest hallway. Kyle swiftly gave chase.

{Meanwhile}

"KYLE! What the heck is wrong with you?!" Kyla screamed at Kyle as he continuously smashed his spear against her swords to parry them away and try to get at her.

"You shot at me! You think I'm supposed to just let that go? Especially when we're in this kind of situation?!" Kyle yelled back.

"But... you attacked me first!"

"That doesn't matter anymore! Obviously you were going to just back stab me anyway! There's no going back from this!"

~:Something wrong... this isn't like Kyle at all!:~ Tyue yelled out mentally, very concerned for Kyla's safety.

Kyla stared wide eyed at the crazed Kyle, at a loss for words, "I... I... Fine Kyle!" She finally yelled back, "No more holding back! You you're serious about this... I'll show you everything I've got!"

Kyle clashed with several of her swords at once, pinned in a deadlock, watching as she dropped her pen to the page, a golden light shining off the page. "What are you doing?!"

"I never thought I'd have to use this against my friends... especially you Kyle... but you given me no choice!" Kyla finished and raised her pen, a stream of golden ink following her stroke into the air. She pointed her pen right at Kyle and following that direction, a huge phoenix like creature appeared in front of her and rushed forward down the hall. Kyle braced himself as the swords disappeared from in front of him. The resulting explosion of magic sent Kyle careening backwards. He skidded on the ground for a bit then stopped quite a good distance down the hall,"Are you done now Kyle?!"

"Not even close." Kyle said stumbling to his feet a bit dizzy, "This way Kyla! This hall isn't a good place for us to be fighting!"

"WAIT! Kyle!" Kyla yelled chasing after him.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kyla and Kyle each rounded a corner and stopped face to face. The two glared at one another for a moment before Kyla started laughing, "Y-Y-You look like such an idiot! Ahahaha!"

"You shouldn't talk." Kyle replied with a hint of malice in his voice.

"That look reeeeally doesn't suit you Ajora."

"Again, same goes for you Kai."

"Hmph!" The replica stomped and looked away, tapping her foot, "I think we're done here... right?"

"Yes... all the pieces are in place. Now all there's left is to watch our play unfold." Ajora laughed, then both he and the evil pictomancer vanished in a dark corridor.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"KYLA!" Kyle yelled out, chasing after the girl, he would stop her. He didn't understand why she was like this, but he'd stop her none the less. He never thought she had that kind of willpower in her, to just strike out like that, but obviously she did. He thought about the time, he knew he didn't have that long left before Kefka blew the whistle, and with all this running, it was only running down the time more. Finally he rounded a corner and at the other end of the hall stood Kyla, pen in hand and book at the ready with a clean page.

"This is where we end this Kyle!" Kyla yelled out to him across the way.

Kyle answered in kind, "Yeah! No more games! Time to get serious!"

Kyla brought her pen to the page, and Kyle took the first few steed before picking up speed into a full on run. Half way 2 swords clashed with him. At this moment, all the walls in a hundred yard radius dropped into the floor clearing out a large circular arena in which they could fight out in the open. Tiles fell into place above them creating a smaller dome so they could go up, but not out.

Kefka's voice cackled over the mystical intercom as Kyle separated himself from the deadlock with her blades, "REEEEEAAAADYYYY!
...
...
...
FIGHT!!!"

[Cue : MUSIC!]

Kyle didn't question the fact it was Kefka giving the order to go, he was too hooked on Kyla's feelings, his curse driving him into a downward spiral of emotions blocking out his train of thought, only he and his life mattered anymore at this point. The replicas had done their job perfectly. Kyla took the initiative and released a wave of level 1 birn strikes that continued firing off like wild machine gun fire. Kyle ran sideways parallel to her trying to find an opening. the birn strikes quickly kept pace and started nicking his shoulders and legs barely missing him. Kyle dismissed his spear and cartwheeled out of the way of a flock of the homing birds aiming for his legs then in one fluid motion turned that cartwheel into a back flip. The burns moved in unison curving around and giving chase to their prey. Kyle jumped into the air followed by the flock. As they gathered nearest to the floor Kyle let loose a banish spell right into the center of them.

The blast pressed them into the floor and scattered their numbers, destroying almost all of them in the process. While those were disorganized, Kyle was met with brand new creations from Kyla, several double bladed spinners whistling by his head with a noise similar to a buzz saw. Three of them circled around him as he landed. The first came from the left, he jumped back to avoid it only to have the other come by from behind and cut his shoulder. He moved with the spinner and spun himself to shallow the wound and faced the other blade coming right at his face. Kyle ducked and stabbed his spear in the ground before using that to help anchor himself up quickly out of the way of another strike at his legs. All the time Kyla was drawing away as her own personal army did her work for her.

Kyle had had enough of this, as another spinner made a pass for him, he ducked and jammed his spear in between it's blades catching it as his hostage. He released it upon it's incoming partner and crashed the two together, and finished it off with a holy strike raid of his spear. The last one flew in as his spear reappeared in his hand. With a swift strike like an ax he batted it into the floor and followed through by skewering it right in it's center.

Kyle ran forward flipping high over the ghost swords, the most limited ranged of all Kyla's weapons. The swords quickly flew up to meet him. He spun his blade below him as they crashed against it. Each took a place on each end of his spear effectively grabbing hold of it and stopping it's movement in order to parry. Kyle let go, and pressed off of them flying up and over Kyla but still facing backwards towards his spear. He gripped the air for his spear and in a burst of magic, it vanished, the explosion destroying the two blades and returning to its owner. He arced back and landed on the ground glancing up at Kyla who was furiously drawing away. He couldn't wait for her to finish whatever she was drawing, any of the swords or small drawings were only delays for her to pull off her real works, he knew that he'd need to stop her right in the beginning without a single hesitation or else she'd pull out whatever it was she had cooking in her book.

~: Kyla! Incoming!:~

"Huh?!" Kyla looked up and released one of her drawings just in time as Kyle's holy strike raid was deflected by a shield. Her wall, unlike Kai's earlier one was made up of 4 triangles placed together to make a forward pointed pyramid in front of her.

Kyla went at her drawing with everything she had now, whatever it was, it was big. Kyle wasn't going to let up with just that, He flew up to her and jumped up bringing his spear down on the shield, gathering all his holy energy on the point of his spear.

The girl winced as a crack split in her shield, then that crack shared a crack with another crack, it wasn't long now.

Kyle was just about through, when the girl pulled her pen away and released her spell. The large bird that followed was a birn, except orbited by a massive number of ghostly swords that moved in unison with it. It struck kyle point blank and sent him flying into the air, that wasn't the end of her onslaught. The birn exploded into a shower of smaller birns that swarmed blew up in a show of fireworks sending Kyle even higher. The swords that before surrounded the giant birn spiraled around him along his aerial path closing in their circle and ripping away at him until he hit the floor, at which point they pulled off before getting stuck in the ground. They pulled up into the air and held their place high above Kyle who was left lying on his back staring up at them like a hundred guillotines ready to fall.

"Give up yet Kyle?!"

"No Way!"

Kyle quickly jumped to his feet as Kyla brought down her quill and the swords descended upon him. Kyle struck as many of the blades as he could aside as they spiraled down around him and attacked from too many directions than he could keep up with. With every 1 he deflected another two cut him in an opening.

Dangit! I never knew Kyla was this powerful! I can't handle her on my own!

A silky voice trickled into his head reminding him on a vital detail, Since when have you ever been alone in this world?

Kyle's eyes opened wide as all the swords came together and moved as one to deliver the final blow. Just they reached him, and threatened to engulf him in their bladed maw, the swords vanished in a flurry of light and feathers. Ultima in young adult form floated behind him with a wing extended around over his shoulder and across his chest and another pointed forward at Kyla. "You see little girl... you made quite the mistake messing with him. Because by extension, you mess with me!"

Kyle ran forward followed closely by Ultima who fired off spell after spell destroying waves of birns and spinners that the girl desperately tried to blast off at kyle to keep him at bay. The boy started gathering all the power he could into his spear as he got close to Kyla. He swung at Kyla, surprised to find her jump and fly clear above him and keep going. She glided up into the air, taking refuge above his head.

"Ultima! Give me a lift!" A second later, Kyle found overwhelming strength in his legs and light as a feather and lunged into the air. Kyle gathered the last bit of energy as he could into the spear before at the tip of his jump, he threw the spear at her. It flew right at her, crackling with power, but missed as she flew just an inch to the side, glancing up at him with a smile.

"Missed!" Kyla laughed as she let the next spell loose, a flock of birns thick as a cloud gushed forth and swarmed kyle escorting him to the ground and pounding him in nicely before all at once detonating in a massive explosion.

To Kyla's surprise, and slight relief, Kyle still stood to his feet, before adding with a cough, "Nope... didn't miss."

"Huh?" Kyla looked down at the ground, a gigantic glyph shining on the floor around his spear, and Ultima was nowhere to be found. Above her, a massive portal opened and what would looked like the bottom of a golden satellite came though. The air itself vibrated as this mechanical thing collected power. Kyla couldn't move, the sheer force of this weapon was holding her there, even Kyle was left stuck unable to move himself. All went extremely quiet right before the weapon let loose and a massive beam of light and darkness combine engulfed Kyla inside.

The beam lasted a disappointing 3 seconds, then the spear, glyph, and satellite vanished. Kyla lied there on the floor unconscious. Kyle had won, but it didn't feel at all rewarding. Kyle dropped to his knees next to Kyla, unable to speak. All the rage and confusion that had driven him this far had left him and now he could only feel regret. "Kyla? Kyla?!" He yelled, gripping her shoulders and lifting her up. He brought his ear close to her face and listened, hearing her weak breaths go in and out.

"How could I let this happen..." Kyle asked, then, bright lights gathered around Kyla and caused her to glow brightly before vanishing in a flash. Kyle trembled, unsure of what just happened, but another thing was on his mind... he could feel as though he was being watched.

[ Chapter 2 ~ All Hail the Holy Queen! ]

"Hey! I SAID HELLO?! Are you even listening to me?! I think we should stay put! We're worse off moving than if we just stay in place! We're more likely to have someone run into us when we're stationary than we are if we go walking around blindly! Heellooo?! Stop walking!"

Bobbi swiftly turned to face Rae her eyes digging into Rae's, "Would you PLEASE shut up for a moment!"

"Hey! I'm just trying to save us some trouble." Rae said shrugging at the archer, "If you want to tire yourself out going on an aimless hike, go right ahead, but I'm not going." Rae sat down right where she was and closed her eyes.

Bobbie stomped her foot, truly loosing her temper. She had been driven crazy by all of her teammates the past few days but this, this was just icing on the cake, "You... Gwuah! We can't just sit still... if we don't make sure to find someone we can beat in less than 30 minutes, Kefka's going to blow this place to bits!"

"As I said, if we wait here, there's a higher chance someone will run into us, than if we go around looking for them... we're more likely to end up finding ourselves where someone else has already been, or just doing circles."

"That's stupid and you know it Rae! We NEED to keep moving. I was lucky enough to have found you as fast as I did, not that you were making any effort to find anyone sitting just like you are now."

"It worked didn't it?" Rae countered, cutting her gaze at Bobbi, her proof in the fact they did meet up.

"Look, if we don't find someone to beat soon, we're doomed... sure, we have each other to back us up, but what good will that be if we don't find someone else!"

"You realize you're talking about our friend's right?" Rae said monotone and serious.

Bobbi caught herself and looked away, finding the whole thing more annoying the more she thought about it, "It can't be helped."

"Is that right?" Rae snapped, "It just... can't be helped. I guess that's what someone like you would say."

"What's that supposed to mean?!"

"Well, figure it out yourself. You're an archer right? I'm a white mage. You shoot people. I heal the wounds others like you cause. I can't go around thinking, 'It can't be helped.' I can only think of how I can help everyone stuck in this mess!" Rae turned away, refusing to look the currently not-so-motherly archer in the eye.

"Is that so? Well, Miss 'I'm going to save everyone!', let's see you heal the wounds of every person caught up in the explosion when Kefka flips that switch in... even less than 30 minutes! We need to go!"

"Oh, FINE FINE! If you're so worried about that stupid timer, and so hunky-dori about defeating our friends, why don't you just beat me up instead!" Rae stood to her feet and summoned her boomerang, "I'm right here! Come and get me!"

Bobbi stared at Rae for a moment before turning away and walking away yelling back to her, "Haha Rae! Very funny, joke's over! Now let's go before we run out of time."

"Who's joking?!" Rae yelled after her, holding her massive boomerang out in front of her like an odd shaped sword.

Bobbi turned enough to have her side facing towards Rae frowning, "What's your problem Rae?"

"You! You're the problem! I don't know why you think you're so high and mighty! You're so full of yourself! Thinking, 'I'm so motherly, sooo mature, so grown up. Well, I thin it's just a bunch of baloney! You're no different than the rest of us, you just like to think you are!"

"Rae, this is no time for games." Bobbi said glaring at Rae and gritting her teeth, what she was saying was really plucking some nerves.

"I'm not playing! If this timer is such a big deal, and you're so ok with beating up our friends, then FINE! I'll take you on and show you that this White Mage doesn't play no games!"

Bobbi stood silently, before shaking her head, "This isn't what I pictured would be my first fight here, but if you're so serious Rae." Bobbi summoned Taulmaril, and notched the first arrow, "I won't go easy Rae!"

"Don't worry, neither will I!" Rae held the boomerang to her side at the ready her eyes cloudy from tears of frustration.

In a moment, the walls around them collapsed into the floor and formed an arena, the tiles below them suddenly shifted and started moving upward. They kept rising, and the other tiles kept falling to the point the floor became no more than a black pit. Around them, besides the ones they were on, were several columns rising out of the depths. Rae looked over the edge of her platform and squeaked, dropping to her knees and hugging the floor, "Heights, why did it have to be heights!"

[Cue: MUSIC!]

Kefka appeared on another mirror that spawned from apparently nowhere and laughed, "Oooo! TEEEEEENSION! CAT FIGHT! Ahahahahahaha!

GO!"

Bobbi didn't have to wait for the clown, she pulled the string of her bow back and let it fly. A second later, the arrow embedded itself in the floor in front of Rae's face. Rae jumped and scooted back looking up at Bobbi, the dropping her gaze to the arrow.

"That was a warning shot! Next time-" Bobbi pulled the next arrow into place, looking down her line of sight, "- I won't miss."

Rae tightened the grip on her boomerang and glared back. Bobbi shot the arrow, it flew cleanly across the gap between the two. Just as it reached Rae, she swung her boomerang and blasted the arrow away releasing a huge gust of wind and sending that wind back across the gap to Bobbi who braced herself as to not get blown backwards, she could hear carried with the wind Rae voice, strong and confident, "Neither will I!"

The two stood for a second at a stand off, then taking off at a dead run, Bobbi started towards her friend, putting another arrow on the string. She jumped from one column to another firing off her arrow mid way which Rae promptly deflected and retaliated like she had before, though the wind not reaching it's intended target as she was in constant motion. Several arrows came and went in the same manner before Rae changed the game plan.

Pulled her arm all the way back she brought her boomerang forward and sent it flying right at Bobbi. Bobbi ducked underneath it but was almost carried away by the sonic boom that followed right behind. See the coast was clear Bobbi ran again readying her next shot. She jumped through the air and took aim but was interrupted with a heavy impact from behind. Rae's boomerang came back around and plowed through the archer sending her flipping and spinning out of control. She was falling, right into the pit, Bobbi couldn't let herself loose that easily. Rae watched her friend fall and vanish into darkness.

Rae could feel tears welling up, regretting what she might have just done. Just as she about closed her eyes to let the tears roll, she heard a thud. She opened her eyes and turned around. She stared at an arrow embedded in a "T" shaped column. Connected to it was a clear rope. That rope swiveled and glided through the darkness though she couldn't see the other end. It picked up speed up until at the far end of the rope and out of the darkness flew Bobbie holding tight to a rope she generated with magic ice connected to Taulmaril. She moved with otherworldly momentum and swung all the way around until she was upside down. At the peak she broke the ice rope and floated for a moment before coming down fast and landing on her feet, directly in front of Rae.

Rae smiled, nervously glad her friend wasn't dead, but not so glad that her opponent was right in front of her.

"What are you smiling about?" Bobbi said bringing one end of Taulmaril into the underside of Rae's jaw knocking her up a bit. She followed though with the other end and took a step closer to the now slightly airborne Rae. Bobbi flipped in place and landed on her hands upside down in a crouching position, flexing her legs into her gut. As Rae came down Bobbi went up, Both of her feet drove into the same spot sending Rae flying. Bobbi rolled back and stung another arrow and shot it, nailing the helpless Rae and releasing an explosion of ice. Another, then another and another and finally one more until Rea dropped out of her extended flight on a distant platform.

Bobbi panted a bit, catching her breath, but held it as she saw Rae shift on the far end of the arena. Rae struggled to her feet, cracking noises accompanying her movement as ice broke free and clattered on the floor, breaking apart. She knew now, that there was no helping this, she had chosen this path, she'd see it through to the end.

Rae snapped her gaze up at Bobbi and took off, she ignored her fear of heights and jumped across from one platform to the next. She let her boomerang fly, lining it's edge with holy, as it spun not at Bobbi, but the column below her. Effortlessly, the now bladed boomerang cut through the base of her platform. The platform shifted a bit, then began a steady decent sideways.

Bobbi ran along to the closest column and jumped off. Her jump came up short but she was prepared. Just as she collided with the column's base she froze her limbs to it. Just as swiftly as she collided, she started climbing faster and faster in the same manner. Finally she was literally running vertically up the side of the column. She ran until she reached the underside of the platform. Then, by freezing her feet to the bottom of the platform, she ran across that until pressing off and flying out into the open. She bent her body and turned around then shot off another arrow with a rope attached into the bottom of Rae's new platform. She swung underneath and came up on the other side. She flew overhead pointing her bow directly down at the white mage. Rae looked up just in time to smack the incoming arrows away. Each arrow exploded into ice that coated her boomerang making it heaver and heavier to swing. Bobbi sank into the gap again and shot another roped arrow into a separate platform.

While she was gone, Rae smashed her boomerang into the floor of her platform kicking off the ice. In the meantime Bobbi swung back around and came back up. She notched three arrows at once and fired them off at her friend who ducked underneath as they flew over. She'd learned that they were trapped and would instead just dodge what she could.

Bobbi put one more arrow on the string, but this time put a good amount extra into this arrow. She shot it and it flew right into the floor by Rae's feet. She glanced down at it, realizing only a little bit too late that Bobbi wasn't one to miss. She ran and jumped off the platform, as the arrow exploded like a grenade freezing the platform's surface in a scary arrangement of frozen spikes.

Rae didn't have enough speed, and landed on the other platform with only the upper half of her body. He scratched at the flat surface slowly slipping and kicking with her feet. No! Don't fall! Don't fall! Don't-

Rae had no grip and thus slipped right off the platform. As she was falling, she had tears in her eyes, "That can't be it... I can't go here! I can't! I still have things I have to do! I still have to save everyone! No! I won't loose!"

A bright light engulfed Rae, and Rae could feel a soft brush against her face. She opened her eyes and found herself floating, out to each side of her, sprouting from her back she saw white wings. She flew back up and past Bobbi swinging her boomerang and smashing her right across the gut. Bobbi did a spin in place, not sure what just hit her, her friend, or a curved two by four, she couldn't put two and two together till she spotted her friend gliding at her full speed.

Bobbi did a front flip off the platform she was on and shot another arrow into the side and swung underneath avoiding Rae's second attack, but she wasn't going to let her go with just that. She landed on a distant platform and threw her boomerang. It blurred through the air smacking the archer that had just reached the top of her swing. Bobbie did a 360 as it hit her, observing the feathers spinning around with her. The boomerang suddenly sprouted wings of its own and curved around, homing in on Bobbi who was still stuck levitating midair. It flew past, no longer spinning but flying like a bird. One after another the boomerang made its passes smashing the archer over and over. Finally, arcing up to be straight above her, the boomerang glowed along with the accumulated feathers. Then, streaking with a long white tail it crashed into Bobbi and exploded along with all the feathers, in an incredible light show.

Bobbi fell to the platform underneath her and laid there for a good amount of time. Rae was sure she'd won this time. There was no way she'd get up from that. But... it seemed both friends had quite the number of surprises in store for each other. Bobbi shifted, and struggled to sit up, "I... I'm not... done... yet. Shiva!"

Shiva appeared in a gale of ice, for, and frost, she held a much larger version of Taulmaril and an arrow as tall as a person. She aimed upwards and fired. It glowed brightly, and behind that Bobbi aimed her own arrow up as well, "Let's see... how you like... my hail storm."

She let loose her arrow and it flew high up above them. Rae looked up, unable to make out what her friend had said in broken words. The arrows collided with one another. At first it just looked like Shiva's arrow had broken apart, but surely in a few moments Rae's view of the top of the dome was clouded by something. Then, came a torrential downpour of ice arrows on top of Rae, she desperately swung her boomerang and covered herself with her wings but to no avail. The ice swiftly covered her entire body and froze her solid.

Shiva vanished almost just as quickly as she had come. With her target no longer able to move, Bobbie aimed her arrow. Her vision was swiftly fading, so she didn't waste any more time. She fired off her final arrow whispering with the only strength she had left, "Diamond... Dust!"

The arrow collided with the frozen Rae shattering all the ice and blowing her away right off the platform. The unconscious Rae fell into the darkness and was whisked away by a bright light before hitting the bottom.

Bobbi, lie on the floor as the ground returned to normal, herself also now unconscious as well... but she was the victor, for as little as it was worth, she had won.

[Meanwhile]

"Yeah! I know! That game was awesome! Did you know there was a cheat with you input the right key combination you could get the final boss stuck charging away as you pound away at it! It was great!"

"No! I totally didn't know that! I should try that sometime when we get back! Hahahaha!" Timmy laughed wholeheartedly along with Kichi as the walked along searching for others.

"Well.." Kichi added, becoming a little down, "That is... IF we get back."

"Oh come on! Don't be that way! We'll get back! I'm sure of it!"

"I guess." Kichi said pulling his hands out of his pockets and shrugging.

As the duo rounded another corner, Shield met Dagger and Tonfa met Rapier. Louis stood matching pressure with Kichi as he held back his rapier.

"Hey! What's the big deal!" Timmy growled at the attacker.

Kichi echoed him "Yeah! Seriously! We didn't do anything to you!"

Louis switched his attention from Timmy to Kichi and back again, "Y-You're not going to attack me?"

"You're the one attacking us, remember?" Kichi said letting off the pressure a bit.

Louis reciprocated and dropped his guard. He rolled his shoulder to reposition the gun slung over his shoulder, "I'm sorry. I was under the impression everyone here wanted to kill each other.

"I'm not very good with names... and our group s pretty big, but you don't seem that familiar, have we met?" Kichi said tilting his head to the side.

"Maybe. Not sure... so... you guys aren't fighting? Aren't you worried about the bomb?" Louis asked curious.

"Not really." Timmy answered, "We see it this way. If the clown wants his one defeat every 30 minutes... he can have it... but not from us. We'll wait out as long as we can before we go and get in a fight. The others will more than likely defeat one or two of each other before that time is up. So, we'll leave it up to them."

"Ah, makes sense." Louis put away his weapon, "I like how you guys think. Mind if I tag along?"

The two looked at one another, and without a word turned back, "Sure! That's cool! Where you from?"

"Ivalice." Louis answered plainly.

"Ah! That's cool! Nice to have you with us!" Kichi said extending a hand forward. Louis grabbed his hand and shook it firmly, "Let's do this! Glad to have you with us. Together, I'm sure we won't loose!"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[[???]]

"Soooooooo... It would seem your Knight is playing this game rather... nicely. How BORING! I thought you said he was an evil ball of fire! Not a teddy bear!" Kefka whined, rolling his head backwards and looking at the other man in the room.

"I assure you. That whatever Louis is doing, he's doing it with some kind of plan behind it." Seymour replied raising his eyebrows slightly, a small gesture but it showed his confidence for those who knew where to look.

"Who're you kidding!" An annoying and a*****e ridden voice came from a corner of the room, "The wimp is nothing but a bed wetting wussy who's afraid of his own power! I still don't understand why you'd call him your knight."

"I don't remember ever saying that myself. You simply assume too much Cory. Why do you think you're here with me and not down there fighting?" Seymour answered with a warning, quickly silencing the undead slave, "He'll perform quite well for your little play Kefka. Don't worry."

"Who's worrying? I just want a good show is all! Is that so much to ask? Well, I suppose I should be thankful, these ones already gave me sooome entertainment already. But just two isn't quite enough for me to be content with... I need it aaalll. I want pain, I want destruction, I want fear... and most of all... I want HATE! Hate! Hate! Hate! Hate! Hate!"

Kefka placed a hand on a one sided mirror looking through into a darkroom. Inside this room was lined with multiple cells, most of the cells were empty besides two, in one, lie Kyla, in the other, now lie Rae.

"~Just keep going, just keep going! Just keep hating, just keep fighting!~" Kefka sang to himself before turning back to the screen with a hearty laugh.

This fic is way beyond epic. It's LEGENDARY. You write as everyone so well... It's astounding. ASTOUNDING, I SAY!! scream

I really liked the switcheroo Ajora and Kai did. That was so clever! When Kyla was like, "plzdiekthxbai" I was VERY confused. I said to myself... "Kyla wouldn't say something like that... Wtf is she possessed? confused " Totally brilliant.

The whole sitting-down-no-not-fighting-and-telling-you-off-for-accepting-this!! yup totally me. o.o I lost so epically. I didn't think one could lose in a cool way. And Bobbi was amazing too! When she summoned Shiva, I yelled at myself, "NYAH SHE'SA KILL YOU, RUN AWAY RUN AWAY!"

...A little bit of a bizarre experience, but still very very awesome. A+++++.

Indeed, it is a really good read. Which is better than most of the fics that I've read in the past couple of months. Seriously, good job. Excited to see what happens when everything is said and done. Just throwing it out there, but I think Kefka is going to be having a Team Rocket moment. XD

((Temporary EDIT: Color Coded Speech is on it's way... I'm just putting this out there now for those diligent enough to read without the pretty colors. Anyway, in the mean time, ENJOY!))

[Chapter 3 ~ A Ball Without A Prince]

The four girls stood in pairs at opposite ends of a long hallway, neither made a move towards the other end. Amy spoke out across the way, "Hey! you're friendly, right?"

Maggie smiled, pleased that the newest additions to group weren't going around attacking on sight, "Of course! Who do you think we are?"

Amy smiled and turned her head back to Dani who stood shyly behind her now griping her cloth ribbon just a little less tightly, "It's ok Dani, they're cool. We'll be safe now. I'm sure with four of us, no one would even think of attacking us."

"Mm..." Dani replied still nervous, this whole place had her shivering from head to toe, only when she actually managed to meet up with Amy did she manage to stop that... for the most part.

Maggie turned back to a friend of her own, smiling, "See Rio, isn't this great? We'll be outa here in no time at all at this rate. No danger here, just all the love in the world!" Maggie smiled a huge toothy grin and walked over to meet her friends.

Rio waved at Dani, smiling big herself, "HAI! Do you have any sugar?"

Maggie laughed. Of coarse that would be the first thing she asked when meeting another group. Amy shook her head, "Nope, no sugar here. Actually, no food at all. I'm starting to wonder if Kefka wants to starve us to death in this place rather than kill us off."

"You may be right!" Maggie commented before laughing as though it was a joke, but Amy really wasn't in a laughing mood. Maggie quickly took the hint and slowed her laughter before becoming quiet like the rest of them. She took a bit before asking, "So? How'd you guys meet up?"

Amy looked from Maggie over to Dani, then back to Maggie, "Well... it kinda happened a little like this... I was wandering through the maze all calm like, when I heard sniffling up ahead. I thought maybe someone had gotten hurt, so I started running. When I came around the corner, there she was... sitting on the ground shaking like she was sitting on a massage chair!"

Maggie chucked and looked over at Dani who still seemed very withdrawn, "You don't have to worry about a thing now Dani! We've got your back!"

"Mmm..." Dani replied, as uncomfortable as ever.

"So what about you guys?" Amy continued the conversation, and glanced down at Rio who held onto her trident like a security blanket, "How did you meet?"

"Maggie found me!" Rio blurted out cheerfully, with a smile from ear to ear.

"Yep!" Maggie continued with a smile of her own, "Ran into her wandering. She damn near shot me with that trident of hers when I startled her."

"I said I was sorry." Rio said with a pouty face, the two together were quite emotionally expressive.

"It's ok Rio, you're forgiven." Maggie placed her hand on her head and ruffled up her hair.

Amy rubbed her hands together like an evil genius before saying, "Yes... our army of minions is slowly growing! Shall we get going?" Amy said and smiled at the two. She was quite glad she had teamed up with them, as sweet as Dani was, these two would definitely be better conversation.

Dani clutched her cloth, "Amy... don't say stuff like that. You scare me."

Amy laughed, "Sorry Dani, was just kidding around. So, let's be off!"

"Yes! Let's go! AWAY!!!" Maggie said pointing up into the sky.

It was about this moment that the ground shook with some massive impact somewhere far off. The rumbling was still startling enough to make Rio scream and shoot off an accidental blast from the tip of her trident... a new trick that she had earlier almost used to add a new scar to Maggie's collection.

When the earthquake, or whatever it was, had passed, Maggie looked back down from the roof of the dome and at Amy and Dani. Amy stood kind of wide eyed at Rio, Rio staring wide eyed and biting her lip, and poor Dani lie on the floor in a fetal position holding her cloth tightly to her chest.

"What's wrong with Dani? It's okay Dani, it was just a little shake... nothing to be frightened over." Maggie tried to comfort her with a soft voice.

"She's not scared of the earthquake, Maggie!" Amy snapped, "Rio shot her!"

"Wha?! Rio?!" Maggie turned to look at Rio who still stood motionless.

"I- I didn't mean to!" Rio clutched onto her trident tighter.

"She..." Dani sat up shaking all over, "She... shot me."

"It's ok Dani, it was an accident." Amy explained bending down next to her.

"She SHOT ME!" Dani gripped the wound behind her cloth tighter, "She shot me! AUGH! IT HURTS!"

"It's ok! It's ok! I'll heal it right away!" Amy said preparing her white magic.

"NO!" Dani pushed Amy away, " She's evil! A backstabber! A lier! She's going to turn on us! I know it! We can't trust them! We can't trust them at all!"

"I'm sorry! I didn't mean to Dani! Really!" Rio pleaded.

"LIES!" Dani screamed, enraged beyond reasoning. Her cloth shot out as though it had a mind of its own at Rio. Maggie grabbed Rios arm and yanked her out of the way just in time. The ribbon embedded itself in the wall behind Rio's head was only a second before.

Rio stared at the hole, still unable to move herself, her eyes slowly drifted back to Dani as she stood to her feet, "She shot me... she can't be trusted, Amy... they can't be trusted!"

Maggie stood in front of Rio blocking her from harms way, "Amy! You know that's not true! We wouldn't do that!"

"They're lying! All lies! They were just waiting for the perfect moment to strike!" Dani ranted on.

Amy stood at a cross roads, she knew that Dani would never trust them at this point, and Maggie and Rio wouldn't come near Dani. The question was, who would she side with? She could side with Maggie and Rio, but completely betray Dani and destroy the relationship she'd built up with her. Or, she could stay with Dani, and loose the alliance she'd only just made with those two.

Amy shifted her gaze back and forth between the two, till finally, she summoned her pistols, and stood next to Dani.

"Amy!" Maggie yelled, surprised and disappointed, "What are you doing?! You know we didn't mean it!"

"I know Maggie, but... I have no choice. I have to be here for Dani... and... if you still want to stay and fight... I'll have to fight you as well!" Amy took aim with her pistols and waited for an answer.

Maggie took several steps back, keeping Rio behind her the whole time. In her mind, she was contemplating running away. She didn't want to fight. She didn't want to endanger Rio. And most of all, she didn't want to have to defeat her friends. But, in her heart, a burning passion, a love of the rush, the excitement, and adrenaline of the fight, made her want to taken them on, just for fun.

Maggie kept backing up until a small pressure on her back caught her attention. Rio, who now stood next to her, held the back of her shirt tightly, not letting her retreat any further, "Rio? What's wrong?"

Rio didn't take her eyes off the floor, something was plaguing her inside until finally she spoke, "I did this. It's... it's my responsibility to fix it." A huge thing for a little girl her age to say, "If a fight is what I've caused... I... I'll fight."

Maggie looked at the little girl through teary eyes, "Rio..."

"Maggie..." The girl said raising her head to look her in the eyes, "You'll... fight with me... right?"

Maggie stood for a moment before tightening her hand into a fist and thrusting it into a courageous pose, "Of Course Rio! I'm not leaving you! Not for a second!"

"Is that your answer?" Amy said, glancing back and forth between Maggie and Dani next to her, who was trying with everything she had to restrain herself.

"Yep! Sorry Amy! We're not running!" Maggie said taking a fighting stance similar to Tifa's a smile on her face, "Let's take it easy though! Kefka said we needed to defeat each other... he never said anything about killing. If we must fight, then let's fight! But not too seriously! Kay?"

Amy grinned as well getting into the mood, "Do you even KNOW how to take it easy?"

Maggie smiled even bigger as the other girl got her spot on, "Nope! Sure don't!"

Kefka popped up on another one of his mirrors as the walls around them collapsed and formed an arena like all the rest. The clown started off laughing hysterically, "Well, well! Isn't this just wonderful! I'm just feeling bubbly all over! The suspense, it's just KILLING ME! Let's get this party started!
3...2...1... go!

[Cue: Music!]

The arena shook as several of the tiles on the floor lifted up and formed a forest of pillars. Maggie lost sight of their opponents on the other size, but didn't waste any time running in. Rio followed closely behind holding her trident close.

On the other end, Dani was the first to run in, her cloth writhing like a snake ready to strike. Amy chased after her, unsure how far her enraged friend might go.

Rio and Maggie walked around in the forest of pillars surprised at how big it really was. It didn't seem like they had been that far apart when the battle began but now it seemed like the forest might just be that, a forest. Maggie picked up on a noise that sounded like the snapping of a twig. Rio didn't pick up on it, but Maggie was immediately in front of her throwing her arms out and activating her alchemy. A barrage of bullets came flying in and collided with an invisible barrier Maggie created with her alchemy. It could defend against week attacks like these, but a powerful attack could break through it quite easily.

Rio ran in front of Maggie pushing her aside, swinging her trident at the air. A beam shot out from the middle tip and strafed across the bleak scenery. The beam cut cleanly through the nearby pillars causing them to fall over as she yelled out, "TIMBER!"

Amy dived out of the way of a falling pillar and fired off a clip of shots at Rio before being met from the side by Maggie. Amy back stepped firing off desperately as the fighter got in close and knocked her guns out of the way before placing several powerful punches into Amy's gut, then forehead, then gut again. Before landing the final hit on the staggered gunner, Maggie retreated as Dani's ribbon whizzed by her face and stabbed into a pillar.

Dani's ribbon quickly pulled itself free at the expense of the pillar which swiftly crumbled at it's base and fell over. Dani's ribbon was wrapped around Dani's neck like a scarf and coiled around then raised it's tip like a snake. Dani had a look on her face that could kill, her eyes were mere slits as she stared down Maggie.

The ribbon shot out and struck at Maggie who side stepped to the left avoiding it, the ribbon pulled back just as quickly and stabbed again resulting in the same thing except Maggie stepping to the right. Maggie took off into a run at Dani, the ribbon acting quickly to intercept her. A swift swing came at Maggie's head and she dropped down in her run, the sharp cloth cutting a bit of her hair. Another slash at her legs avoided with a quick forward somersault in the air.

Maggie stopped an inch short fro running right into Dani bringing the full force of her open palm into Dani's chest. Dani flew backwards her cloth shooting out and grabbing hold of Maggie's foot dragging her along the ground with Dani. As Dani stood back up from her flight, her ribbon picked Maggie and took her for a ride. Swinging her around like a play thing, it slammed her against a pillar, then switched direction and slammed her against another. Tired of the repetition the ribbon whipped Maggie high into the air. The ribbon let go letting Maggie flip around wildly and out of control. The ribbon to a stop to it quickly as it grabbed her by the throat this time and pulled her back down to earth, dropping her right on a pillar with enough force to blast her right though it to the very bottom turning the entire pillar to rubble in a split second.

Meanwhile Rio dealt with her own battle versus Amy who shot her her with a barrage of bullets. Rio strafed to the side running and spinning her trident in front of her deflecting as many bullets as she could but inevitably some still got through nicking her all over leaving sores and cuts, but none placing any significant blows.

Rio rounded behind a pillar and hid behind it for a second until the bullets stopped flying revealing Amy had run out of bullets for a moment and had to wait for the guns to replenish themselves. Rio jumped out and pointed her trident out again shooting blindly. The red beam shot out and cut through the pillars. Rio jumped behind the pillar again dodging another barrage of bullets. The red glow o n the pillars around Amy still remained, and with a smack of the blunt end of Rio's trident to the floor, the red glow quickly grew and exploded sending Amy, and a ton of debris sky high.

Back with Dani and Maggie, Maggie slowly picked herself up, peices of the pillar falling out of her hair which was now a gigantic mess. Maggie shook the dizziness away from her head and looked at Dani. Dani still stood in the same place, just waiting for Maggie to make a move. Maggie didn't waste a second she ran forward again for another go. She slapped her hands together, a bright light shining out from between them as she pulled them apart. Out of that light Maggie successfully synthesized a pair of dual blades.

As Maggie came into range Dani shot out her scarf to stab at Maggie in hopes to land a hit on the brawling alchemist and stop her short. Maggie jumped clear above it came down on the cloth stabbing her swords into it one after the other. Dani jerked back on the anchored scarf and screamed in frustration.

While she paid attention to the cloth, Maggie closed the distance and decked the girl with all the strength she could muster. The cloth swiftly disconnected from around the girl's neck. Dani flew back until slamming her back into a pillar. Maggie as on top her before she could step forward. Her open palmed strikes bashed her over and over and over enough that crashes started forming in the pillar behind her.

Dani was saved by Amy as she shot a charged blast at Maggie and knocked her away. The now heavily damaged Dani limped over to her cloth and pulled the swords out, running her hands over the holes.

Rio ran over and took her place next to Maggie, helping her up and keeping an eye on Dani and Amy.

"Rio... let's switch. You deal with Dani, I'll handle Amy."

"Kay!"

Maggie dashed forward at Amy and brought up another shield as Amy barraged her with bullets. Amy learned from the least time and swiftly jumped away and pressed off one of the pillars jumping from pillar to pillar to get up to the top. Maggie did the same and chased her till landing on the top of one of the pillars, the ground a good distance down.

Up there, both could see just how big the forest was, and also see the gaps they had created by destroying the pillars. Maggie had no intention of dragging the fight on any further, either she would finish it here with Amy, or she was done.

Amy jumped from pillar to pillar making her way across towards Maggie. It seemed she had the same thing it mind. The two met, and Amy quickly took herself into a melee mode kicking and swinging the handled of her guns at Maggie as blunt strikes. Amy hit Maggie upside the head, then ducked as she retaliated with a right hook. Amy elbowed her in the stomach and brought her other gun around and pointed up into Maggie's bend over face. A charge shot knocked back in a back flip. Then another change shot sent her straight back.

Amy kept coming, but when Maggie recovered, she was ready to take back the lead. Maggie, who was far more specialized in this quickly took the upper hand. She struck Amy across her torso with one leg, then dropped to that knee with a backwards sweep with the other. Amy wasn't out of tricks yet. She jumped her sweep and pointed both guns down. firing two fully charged shots into the pillar they had both just been fighting on, and blasted herself high into the air. The charge shots blasted a hole right down the center of the pillar then continued to the base spreading cracks along the outside as they passed through. When they reached the bottom they exploded crumbling the entire pillar and causing Maggie to loose her footing.

Maggie started falling with the debris and swiftly tried getting back to the top. A large chunk of the pillar was near her, she swiftly twisted around and pushed off it with her feet. She cleared the falling debris and landed on the side of another pillar. Her head snapped up and in a split second, she pressed off towards another pillar, dodging another two charge blasts from Amy. Again Amy fired, missing and destroying another pillar, then another.

Caught underneath the falling pillars was Dani and Rio still fighting on the ground. Rio ran forward rolling out of the way of a falling pillar and stabbing at Dani. Dani's ribbon shot forward and grabbed her trident then threw it into the air. Rio ran forward still, even without her weapon and thrusted forward as if she had it in her hands. Imaginary became truth as the Trident warped back into her hands and nearly stabed Dani through the arm. Only a last second step to the side saved her from the injury. Her ribbon didn't waste any time, it shot out and wrapped around her trident, as well as the girls arm. It coiled around her until it completely restrained her from moving at all.

Dani pounced on the smaller girl and pinned her to the ground, wrapping her hands around her throat, "You traitor! You liar! I hate you! I loath you!" Dani's grip tightened as Rio squired underneath her, held nicely in place by the cloth binding.

Dani shook Rio back and forth, until suddenly being knocked away by a huge moving object. She tumbled away, the ribbon unwrapping itself from Rio. Rio stood up accompanied by a huge gust of wind and broken pillars as Valfore took it's place directly behind her. Dani stared at Valfore and dived out of the way as a beam came her way drawing a red line on the ground and detonated a moment later.

Above them, Maggie and Amy were still going at it.

Maggie was successfully avoiding all the shots and was slowly closing the gap between her and Amy. She fired off one last shot, which Maggie swiftly blocked with another item from her alchemy inventory. She seemed to store them in some kind of magical pocket she could open on a whim. An uppercut, followed by a series of swift strikes ending with an elbow to the gut awaited Amy in the next few seconds. Before she could even fall to the ground, Maggie followed through summoning a fire gem to her hand which she smashed into Amy point blank releasing a powerful fireball.

Amy flew as Maggie swiftly activated her ultimate alchemical brew, her final strike. As she placed her hands together a glow engulfed her whole body. A Protect and Shell spell surrounded her, and a haste strengthened every portion of her body. A second later, she caught up with Amy mid flight, dashing in like a pin ball off of the pillars knocking her into a spiral from the side, then evened her out with another strike again from the other direction. Amy continued getting pounded unable to match or counter the Mighty-Guard enhanced Maggie. Maggie set Amy up for the final landing underneath her and flying up punching her into a front flip, then coming back down on her face with a drop kick, Maggie truly did not know the meaning of going easy.

Maggie landed underneath the STILL airborne Amy, firing up a fire gem, then a ice gem, a water gem, then struck the drenched Amy with a lightning spell. Maggie threw a black orb at Amy which opened up and engulfed her in a demi spell, then to put on the final touches, Maggie reeled back and threw a small ball shaped object at the still active demi spell. The ball got sucked in, and a second later, the demi exploded from the inside as the potato masher turned into a massive series of explosions that spread outward until it was almost blinding.

Dani looked around to see the explosion, then got hit by Rio with another blast from her Trident. Dani held the spot here she was shot, then felt a rumbling underneath her. The arena shook and the pillars started sinking into the floor. Maggie looked around spotting Rio a good distance away. Amy fell to the ground and was scooped up by the bright lights and vanished.

Walls came out of the ground between the remaining three and cut them off from each other effectively interrupting the fight completely.

Maggie ran towards Rio yelling, but was blasted back by a barrier. Soon, the entire arena returned to being a maze once again. . .

[???]

Kefka yawned thoroughly board with the proceedings, "What's with these guys? It's as if they all want to be buddy buddy with each other! Don't they know this is a tournament?! I mean... aren't they even the least bit competitive, come on! Give me a good show!"

Seymour looked at the clown, unable to understand him in the least, "You had a fight going right then... why'd you interrupt it if you're wanting a good fight so much?"

"WHY?" Kefka replied with a laugh, "To split them up of coarse! They were just too... happy.... when together. Too comfortable. I want them to feel fear... I want them to feel terrified, and most of all... I want them to feel HATE!" The clown's screen showed a close up of Dani, who now sat holding her legs close to her chest in the middle of a hallway.

"Oh!" Kefka continued, "I just remembered... go get that boy for me would you? I think it's about time he joined this fun!"

Qareen tapped her foot, knowing that the clown was referring to her, "I don't remember becoming your errand girl."

"~Remember our deal.~" Kefka taunted with a playful voice.

Qareen sighed, and left the room. Seymour looked on with interest, waiting for her to leave, "How DID you manage to recruit them?"

"The darkies? Ooooh~ I simply offered them an opportunity they just couldn't refuse~!" Kefka laughed.

"And that waaaas?" Cory asked, rather annoyed that Kefka had been able to do what he couldn't.

"I offered them the chance of a lifetime... to cause the worst pain and anguish possible to their counterparts. And if they worked with me, they'd get a part of it!" Kefka chuckled, "They accepted quickly enough..."

A gentle breeze blows across a field as Heaven and Hell clash with earth as their battle ground. Mortals struggle to survive as they get caught in the crossfire.

RIO BABY! Why havn't we thought about tag teaming before?! I mean, it all makes sence! heart

These keep getting better!

Rhiko, You are the master of character study! This is the first time I've seen a character so accuratly played(written) when it wasn't written by their own creators. It's like you've dived right into each of us.

I was more surpised I won... And kicked a**!(unexpected, but pleasently) OwO I mean, the fight had me on the edge, this was an even playing field by all four characters. I was really glad everyone had an equal oppertunity to be at the top of their game!
The RiovsDani fight was incredible! But i think the build up made it all the more intense. Rio seems to be more capable of her fighting style now and also Dani's showing what power she can posses with that ribbon (And very devistating effects they are!)
The AmyvsMaggie fight was so epic you would not beleive. We seemed to be on equal fighting grounds, and I liked how you caught wind of my battling sensitivity toward fightng peers (I usually do start bare fisted) but at the same time, I love the adrenaline rush ^w^ The Alchemy! Ho gosh, that was creative! (even though i havnt had an oppertunity to use it) You've certainly showed me the boons of an Alchemist! I'm looking forward too seeing the potential you bring out in the other characters too! These are all incredible, i wish i had time too review each chapter.
I think this would also make an exciting flash movie ^w^

"Maggie truly did not know the meaning of going easy."~ Right on!

LOVE!

That fight was amazing Rhiko! You cut up the pairings so well so that each got their own spotlight moment. ANd I agree with Fuu, you are very good at characterization.

AWESOME EPIC!

Yea I dont need to say it. Personally I loved it because he did stuff with the ribbon I NEVER THOUGHT OF! (now i shall use it to my adv.). I actually never saw myself with Amy but it defiantly works. The fight was just epic buildup because he used what we walked about with IF YOU DARE SHOOT ME THEN I WILL GO INSANE ON YOU!!! Otherwise really good job.
