Inaari:;

Age: 15
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Straight and narrow.
Craft: NA
Rank: Cotholder's daughter

Physical Description: Since infancy, Inaari could only be described as 'wheaten'. Pale hair, pale skin, and freckles everywhere. Even the smallest exposure to sun covers the girl in an absolutely astounding layer of small dots. Sunburn is also common, due to a noticeable lack of melanin. To protect her neck and back, her light blond hair is worn long and fairly loose to mid-back. Her face is generally unremarkable, minus the freckles. Soft mouth, wide brown eyes, and a somewhat prominent nose are all that come to mind.

She's beginning to be somewhat wide-set in the hips, but narrow in the breast, producing a pear-shape that doesn't look likely to change. Due to having to sometimes work at her Hold, she also has a bit of muscle to her long legs and delicately muscled arms. Compared to other workers, however, this is negligible. At this point in her life, she's about five feet, five inches tall.

NOTE: There was confusion on her dimensions. If I had to give measurements in the hips, it would be just slightly wider than what is considered normal for any fifteen year old girl of today. For breasts, she has next to none. Think of the girl you see walking around, just shy of needing a training bra. That's Inaari. She is by no means buxom or curvaceous, just starting to grow into what will be a thicker frame than normal, given to her by genetics.

Personality: Inaari's father's Hold has never been especially prosperous, and as such, she is somewhat more jaded than others her age might be. She's had to cope with what her mother describes as a 'physical condition' that has kept her tied to the Hold, watching her other siblings struggle to make a life for them all, making her generally impatient when set to do menial tasks. However, she understands that if she wants to eat, which she greatly loves to do, Inaari must do the menial things no one else can. No excuses get by this girl, she won't hesitate to speak smartly to you if she thinks you're in the wrong.

Underneath the know-it-all, defensive surface, however, there is a young lady. She likes to laugh, and play, and be a child. She likes to act motherly, but will be more than happy if you can take that job from her, and let her run along and enjoy herself, especially out of doors. But beware! One rude remark about her freckles will bring "Mommy 'Naari" back out to scold you!

Also, if you try to treat her like a little sunburn or marks on her skin are something that should keep her from being normal, be prepared. She does not mind any of that at all and would rather be red from head to toe under the freckles than stay inside. A good hat keeps the burn away, and freckles give you character!

History: The third of seven, Inaari is one of four girls born to a Cotholder beholden to Fort Hold and Weyr. Located somewhat more southerly than the other holds, it's very decidedly minor. They were not very successful in growing anything other than small fruits, and what was needed to survive.

Because of their happy low rank, Inaari's parents were a love match that was thankfully agreeable to their parents. Her mother is distantly related to a wealthy merchant family based in Fort Hold, somewhat akin to seventh or eighth cousins. Her father's family has Held their hold for close to six generations now, and with three sons, the line looks to continue.

It's their family's fondest hope that the girls be educated in a larger, more civilized Hold. Thus, at the age of ten, Inaari was sent to Fort Hold to foster with her mother's cousins there. She was to learn more of the trades of how to successfully run a house and Hold, and experience more life, hopefully coming back betrothed. Her mother fretted about her poor daughter's health (an empty concern), but in the end, the idea of making a better life for her child and her family won out. Her father's stern insistence that the girl go probably more than helped. Fostering would help her mature, and perhaps even soften a sharp tongue that was becoming almost unbearable.

This did not go so well with Inaari, who had hoped that as she aged, she would be allowed to help more in the physical aspects of the Cot. Having been nearly sent back to her home in shame, a new leaf turned for the girl, and she threw herself into her work. If she could only be well-behaved, slipping away to run about in the sun would not at all be noticed or cared about.

Having now been Searched, her mother is fearful, and surprisingly, her father is understanding. Losing only one daughter to the greater ideal is just fine, and his daughter is understood well enough to not fall into the debauched traps that lie within the Weyr. This does not comfort her mother, however, and the relationship between the two is strained. Inaari's new dream is to ride a dragon straight up into the sun, as often as she can.

Pets: Ryka - green flitt

Other/Talents: Fairly talented at cooking and mending, klah especially, with moderate skill in weaving, and a few small classes from the Harper Hall during her fostering. No real skill, however. She can passably sing the Teaching Songs, and not much else.

Eponath:;

Green Eponath

Green Eponath just wants to make sure everyone is well taken care of. First and foremost is Hers and then comes everyone else. Always offering her helpful opinion, this small green does not like to be ignored. She is indeed very small, but she is stocky. It’s very obvious she’s made to go a distance and is in no way fleet or agile. Don’t let her small size trick you! Eponath has a very big presence and will do everything in her power to make sure she’s noticed. Personal space and private conversations both mean very little to her, so rider beware, she’s bound to ruffle a few feathers.

Eponath never tries to make anyone upset; quite the opposite! Being the most motherly dragon in the clutch, she feels it’s her personal duty to see to the welfare of everyone she knows (and strangers too, if it looks like they need her). Hers is always the most present in her mind. Being an incredibly nosy dragon, she will do everything and anything if she thinks it’s best for her rider. Secrets are not safe with her, but you can’t really keep a secret from your dragon, can you? She’s happy to talk on any subject and always offers her advice, even if it’s not needed. Or bad. She does give bad advice, on occasion.

Even if someone tells her she’s wrong or tries to push her away, Eponath never gives up. She’s a very optimistic, hopeful dragon and nothing stands in her way! Nothing can get her down. Her bulky stature doesn’t bother her in the least; in fact, she’s still quite flirty. Every bit a green, Eponath loves males. She loves their attention and loves to chat with them, even if they aren’t interested in her. Flights are one of her favorite times, with all that attention on herself! But even during a flight, her foremost thought is Hers, and she will never knowingly make a choice that will upset her rider.

The only time her good nature fades is when she is completely ignored. Compelled to be near others and be in charge of them, to some extent, she absolutely cannot stand being left alone. It is not beyond Eponath to have a bit of a temper tantrum, especially when she is young. She’ll never grow out of her need to be social, but with age, she will learn to handle it a bit more delicately. The nastiness will never be drawn out of her completely, but it will be harder to bring to the surface.

People of Pern:;

Okassis/O'asis

Okassis is one of the first people I really got to talk to. I was trying to help him make his family's klah recipe, but he was a real jerk about it, until I got him in the stomach! He's ok now, but I think he is somewhat unnatural for not liking klah. Lately, he's been up to something. I don't know what, but he just looks sneaky.

Sovann/S'van

I don't know what to think of S'van much anymore. He can be so brash and sometimes scary mean. But...he gave me that egg! He remembered my Naming Day! Someone who does something so generous can't be terrible, can they? And why does he make my chest and belly feel funny? So confusing! I am however, happy that he is now a brownrider. I think he is very deserving, for being so generous.

Brown Galliath

S'van's new partner in life. He seems very sweet, if somewhat brash. I can't understand why he had such a problem with my Ryka, but I'm doing what I can to keep them apart so I can spend time helping both rider and dragon.

Nandeli

Knows everything! If you want to know something, you go to Nandeli! She's always telling you about this person, or that person, and if you need to spend a few hours doing something unpleasant, bring her. She makes it so much less so.

Candidatemaster Z'nal

Old Grumpy. Old Grouchy. Pick one? He's probably seen lots of Candidates, so none of us impress or faze him. Thankfully, he's not the one that needs Impressing! I was surprised though, he liked my klah!! Can't be so bad after that!

Jiriar/J'riar

Jiri is one of my closest friends! He dances with me, and is so funny! He likes to put people in tight spots though, I could've thrown him off the Weyr when he made that suggestion to S'van! I care for him a lot though~

Green Ianquith

I adore her! She is sweet, and nice, and absolutely lovely! I think she and my Eponath will get along so very well!

Astri

I found her hanging around at the klah-off. She thought my klah was good too, but was wary about touching what Kas and Sov had made. I don't really blame her! She seems nice, I can't wait to get to know more.

Zhaylan

He was painting naked Sovann!!! This is distressing. And then he tried to get US naked! Nandeli was all for it, but no no no. Oh no. Never me. By the First Egg, that was strange! What am I to think about that sort of person?

Jessmet

She was one of the girls at the lake, that was ah...appreciating Sovann and the other boys. I found out she's older than me, and weyrbred! She was also at a few Hatchings already, and I sort of feel bad for her. It must be terrible to never find a dragon for yourself.

Talar

She seems to have a lot in common with me, when it comes to what is right and what is wrong. Very concerned with being proper, and I like that very much! I hope to spend more time learning about this lady.

Bevan

There's...not much to say about him. I think he's somewhat of a dimglow, but it doesn't seem his fault. He really likes those sweets.

E'si

Greenrider E'si, is very...hm. I am not sure I know a word to say what this boy is. Slick? Slippery? Somewhere between the two, with a healthy interest in everyone else. He seems to think that all women will just fall at his feet, and I'm not sure that's entirely possible. Or wise! I have no idea why he was teasing Kiriwar though. Kiri isn't a girl!

Green Miith

Does not like me. I haven't much met her, but she doesn't seem to like other girls near her friend Galliath or her rider. I wonder why?

Kiriwar/K'riwar

He seemed somewhat thrown off by E'si, and I think I like him better for it. I'm always thrown in our group, and it's quite good to know I'm not alone! He smelled strongly of spirits, do you think he's a drinker? I hope not.

Goran/G'ran

He's very stiff and stuffy, but he's always been rather nice to me. I'm glad he was there when I Impressed!

Therion

To come~

In Which Inaari Incites Trouble:;

The Touching was today. That's where they teach us how to approach the Queen, and let us near the eggs we might Impress soon. There were so many of us, and so few of them! I would think the poor baby dragons have such a hard time choosing, but the ladies in the Weyr say that usually, it's love at first sight.

So, to Impress a dragon, you just have to throw yourself forward? What a stampede that will be!

Old Grumpy woke everyone as early as he could, and even then, by the end of the day I'd had no more than just a few moments with each egg! How are we supposed to know anything, or figure anything out, if we only get a short time to form an idea? Maybe it makes us unafraid, but some of them looked even more afraid, being near the queen like that. I admit, she's very intimidating, all the way up there. But so very lovely.

I was then heading out to help with dinner in the Lower Caverns as one of my chores, when I ran into two older teenage boys. They seemed to be abnormally interested in getting ingredients for klah. Well, I have the best klah in the entire Weyr, so I just had to offer to help! By the First Egg, what a mistake that was! They were so rude, and the one, Sovann, was scary. I got a good elbow into the other one, Okassis.

Anyway, they tried to tell me how amazing their klah was. I wasn't falling for it one bit! So now, they have this idea that the entire Weyr should try our klah and vote. I love this idea! Then the whole weyr can see what amazing klah I have, and maybe. Just maybe. I can make new friends?

I would love some friends.

Klah - The Brew of the Heavens

This is perhaps the best day I've had since coming here!! And because I have to be polite in front of everyone, I need to put this here.

I TOLD YOU SO, SOVANN AND OKASSIS!!!!

I told them! I told them I had the best klah in the Weyr! They were convinced that their 'special ingredient' would beat mine out, that everyone would prefer theirs to mine! Not so! I admit to being worried for awhile, it seemed most preferred the boring, normal klah. Mine is strong, meant for hardworking, alive folks. Apparently it's a bit more than the weyr is used to, but they all drank it!

And in the end, those two? Didn't get one vote! So much for special secret ingredients! Heeheehee~ I can't seem to fall off my cloud! I met two new people, Jiriar and Astri. He seemed very nice, a lovely first impression unlike another two boys I know! Astri seemed very sensible, and a little shy, just like me! She said she didn't trust what the boys had put into the klah, and frankly, I don't blame her. I am not sure I trusted it either, and in the end, didn't want to taste.

Then the most shocking part! The Candidatemaster himself showed up! I guess Nandeli's shouting and Okassis' heckling had called his attention, and boy was I scared. He didn't seem to want to try it, being very wary. My promise of safety, however, was all it took to have him drinking my mix. I think he liked it, though he might be a bit old for its kick.

In the end, I am very, very happy! Also, my birthday is next sevenday, I cannot wait!

Inaari Turns Older And Relationships Change:;

This is probably going to be the most secret page of this journal so far. I'm not even sure I can reliably put this into writing! If he finds out I told anyone, even a piece of paper, Sovann might toss me bodily off the Weyr! But it was my birthday, and I'm going to say what I want!

When I woke up, they'd put packages by my bed! It was so lovely. There was a big one from mama, a small one from papa, and a few letters from everyone else. There was a communal present of some dried fruits from home to nibble on when I'm out, and I was so grateful for them! Mama's idea of an acceptable present, however, was the largest hat she's ever given me. I fully think she stole it from a beekeeper, and removed the netting. The brim is enormous, and if I wore it, I would probably be laughed out of the barracks! She's so ridiculous.

Papa's gift was beautiful. It's such a light pretty blue stone, strung on a chain. The color matches almost perfectly with the view of the sea from the top of Ista, I love it so much, I don't think I'll ever take it off again! But that wasn't my best present, and this is where I have to be careful of who sees me writing this!

My very best present was the sneakiest one! I had thought Sov and Kas had forgotten my birthday! Well. I still haven't seen Kas to ask if he remembered, but Sovann sure didn't! He was so terrible and sneaky about it too, pretending to not remember, but sneaking the cakes up anyway. AND THEN!

Oh and then! I go back to my room, in tears because of that dimglow, and sitting there is a firelizard egg! A SHARDING 'LIZARD EGG!!! Well we immediately took it outside, and it hatched into the most beautiful little creature! She's a rich dark green, like the trees at night. I named her Ryka, and oh my. Sovann really was so thoughtful, giving it to me! When he could've kept her for himself!

Being around him these days makes me feel kinda funny though. I wonder if I'm just thankful or...I don't know. Maybe I should see the Healer, I might be allergic to Sovann!
PostPosted: Sun Aug 23, 2009 2:54 am

Wherein Inaari Procures More Friendships:;

In all the excitement about Ryka, I forgot to mention that I talked to the loud girl from the Klah-Off, Nandeli! A lot of people seem to call her "Nose", and she explained to me it's because she knows quite a lot about everything, and seems to find things out without hardly trying! Certainly she knew a lot about Sovann!

I'm not sure how to think about how I met a few others though. I heard everyone playing down by the lake, so I figured they should meet Ryka, and I could meet some others too! But no! Sovann, the shameless dimglow, was stripping! And then was stretched out naked, plain as all to see! And then, oh Faranth, I accidentally touched him! NAKED! Oh my oh my. I flare up just thinking about it!

Then the strange artist, Zhaylan, wanted us girls to strip! I don't think so! I did however, meet a girl with a long braid who seemed nice, got along very well with Nan. I somehow think that everyone in the Weyr gets along with Nan though.

Dragons!:;

In the middle of the afternoon yesterday, a loud hum reverberated throughout the the entire Weyr! You could hear all the dragons moving and rustling, shifting into the innermost part of the Hatching Grounds to wait for the eggs to split. It was sheer pandemonium after that! We were all immediately thrown in white, and shoved out onto the sands by the most capable hands that could find us, just like that! Now I understand why the Touching is so important, you'd probably lose your mind with fear otherwise.

As it was, there was already a brown on the Sands when I came to the forefront. Can you imagine how many Candidates there were in that press? There must have been over seventy of us, possibly even a hundred I heard! But that little brown went straight into Sovann's arms! Can you believe it?! And right after he gave me my darling little Ryka. It seems like Faranth herself put into that little dragon's mind that Sovann, now called S'van, would be such a good caring person for him!

Bah, listen to me prattle on about him! You'd think I was some kind of silly wherry, chasing after a boy or something. Not me! Anyway...

In the end, a few that I don't know much walked away with life partners. I walked back on my own. It's a beautiful thing to see, matching up with someone that will be there with you for every moment until the very last. To know that no matter which humans come and go, you will have a loving partner. Who on Pern other than a dragonrider has that certainty? No one.

(Tears blot the page here, as if a few were allowed to drip from her chin.)

I try to not let it bother me, but by the First Egg, I want a dragon! I'm so much younger than everyone else though...do you think that matters? You go home after you reach an age that I'm not sure of, do you think the dragons think about that right out of the egg? I hope not. I'm not sure how I can even watch again and again as others find their bonded partner. But I refuse to give up! I will have a dragon one day, and they'll have to drag me away from the Sands when I'm too old!

Other than S'van, none of the others Impressed. Not Okassis, not Jiriar. It was all a blur until later that evening. The ladies down in the Lower Cavern dragged me into the fray, helping them prepare and serve for the sudden Feast to welcome the new riders into the fold. Apparently someone had gone and slain some herdbeasts while we were busy Impressing, and they were roasting beautifully! It's easy to be sad now, but there was just no time for it! Apparently I wasn't the only one in a blur, because we found out later that some awful, terrible sharding fools that didn't Impress stole wine from the cellars, with some of our hard work, and went to have a pity party down by the lake!

Fools! Can't be happy for anyone but themselves. If people like that can Impress dragons, I think I might be quite upset one day. But I guess somewhere there might be a dragon that wants to cheer up and help a selfish, pathetic person. And then who am I to say they shouldn't be together? Hmph.

In any case, they finally released me into the feast and ohhhh! I am still somewhat angry at what I found! S'van, the great and glorious new brownrider, apparently had very little time for the girl he was so nice to only a week before! I even brought him klah, with that boy Jiriar. I got a thanks, but nothing. Not a thing! Never was I so mortified, I was so very angry with him! I am very glad that he's got Galliath to care for now, because I am not sure I can be nice until I am less upset. Not that he'd apologize. Oh no.

Bah! Something good did happen though! I mentioned Jiriar, who was helping me deliver klah to HIM, and then, of all things...he asked me to dance! Me! Little Naari! Well I'd danced more than a few times at the Fort Gathers, but never since I've come to the Weyr. And it's a very very good thing I didn't decide to lead. Jiriar's idea of dancing is a few moves, and then all but flinging me into the air! Exhilarating, exciting, very fun! But not at all dancing!

Not long after that, I left. S'van seemed brasher than before, and I hope to see him soon and see if he was simply crazy with success, or if this is how he is going to be from now on. I hope it is simply the former, for I don't think I could much handle the latter. Yet still, my heart and stomach leap when I see him, much like when I was thrown into the air by my new friend.

Sigh.
