v.v" So I'm guessing there are more than a couple authors that it's generally best to avoid. It'd be nice if someone can tell me who they are so I stop buying the books when I see them because to put it simply, it seems like at this point it'd be better to avoid the books in general than to get books by authors who seem to be doubtful. Silver Ravenwolf is on the list, but who else is?

That is kinda of a hard one. I have been off the book scene for the most part for a while. But I do have suggestions to read. I am sorry that I can not help you with this one.
Other then... SILVER RAVENWOLF. I am sooo blessed -coughs gags- with having her live like 15-20 minutes a way from me.

Suggestions to read are just as good as suggestions of what not to read. Books are sort of how I get the wheels in my head going, so it'd be nice to have something going... xDDD Aren't you so LUCKY?! xD

Hmm I don't know. You might find a list on any anti-fluffy bunny website. Of course they even vary. Some people don't like Cunningham, others think he's great. I personally like to go on amazon and see what people think. I often read the negative reviews first, then work my way up. Some of the books have it where you can preview some of it on amazon. I personally don't have any what to read lists going, though I probably should if I decide to go looking for books.

Haha, it has already been said what I was going to say. Silver is soo frickin annoying. I really like Cunningham. I cannot think of the first name though, but that person is a great author. Complete opposite of Silver.

for a suggestion on a book... I LOVE this book! i've been reading it for the past 2 weeks since i bought it, & i'm only just about to finish the preface! it's a book that translates & explains the beliefs of Hinduism. It's like, Bhagavad-Gita (bahg-uh-vahd - geet-uh) is the original bible. BUT, it's supposed to have come directly from the incarnation of the godhead himself. Hinduism is the oldest known religion, dating back a millenia. it's the origin of reincarnation, Enlightenment (the summer lands), & Gods living among us.

It also all depends on what you are looking for in a "pagan" book. What are you looking for callme?

If you're wanting a decent history thats as unbiased as you can get with still being a human, I'd suggest 'Triumph of the Moon.' Also, if you want a much heavier theory on magic, there is 'Cognative Theory of Magic.' I'm still going through it. Its slow read, but gives you a whole new way of seeing not just pagan magic, but every religion's magic.
Write Your Own Magic was ok. I liked the random little information, like where abracdabra came from. ^.^ And for meditations, I've used 'Meditation: week by week' by David Fontana. Take your time with him though. Its a bit tough for me.
As for ones to avoid... SilverRavenWolf is the only author I don't really like. Book wise, I'm not much for 'A Year of Ritual' by Sandra Kynes. Its just a list of rituals for groups or solitaries. And the solitary rituals are just the group ones with the list of who does what cut out.

Asking me what books I'm looking for is like asking where the water in the ocean came from... It's just one of those things that doesn't really compute as well as it should. Basically I'm looking for not-fluffy. I like having histories, thoughts, feelings, and ideas at the tip of my fingers so I can encourage my own brain to think about it feels about things... I'm a jackofallbooks, if that makes sense.. I read a little bit of everything, but I like to do so with people who know what they're talking about.

Then definitely skip Silver Ravenwolf. One of my favorite books ever is my Animal Magick D.J. Conway. Which is great if you are interested in animals and familiars.
