Mountain fort

The Brig'Kassrik are a small, very old clan that resides in a place called Brig'Kassrik Valley, located in the northern parts of the mountains. They are a tough breed and rather private - they don't like intruders much. As such very few know about their existence.

OOC Leader(s): Deneris
Leading Saighneian: Frost
Clan location: [x]

Member traits: The Saigh that live in the Valley are among the largest Plain Saighneian. Over time their coats have also become thicker and longer, to help them during the winter cold. The most common colors are shades of white/gray, blue and black. Purple and green are not unheard of either, but are rare. Any other color is a sign of outsider blood. While Saigh with outsider colors will not be treated differently, they will be considered weaker and less capable, unless they prove otherwise.

Outsiders/Joining policy: Outsiders are generally thought to be weaker than those born from the clan. Anyone found wandering around the Stone Gates is to be escorted away from the lands by a Gatekeeper. However, if the outsider wishes to join the clan they will be taken before the Council. Mind you, the Brig'Kassrik may be picky about who they let in. The joining Saigh must have the necessary mindset for life in the mountains. Their coat must also be primarily: white/gray, blue, black, purple and/or green. A few touches of other colors here and there are acceptable, but no more than that. Cubs that somehow stumble upon the territory on their own are always taken in. If they have an unusual pelt color or do not adapt to life in the valley well, they will be taught the skills needed for living on their own and taken to the Plains when they reach adulthood.

The Brig'Kassrik were an ancient Clan of Saigh, one of the first ever formed. They resided in the northernmost parts of the mountains, in a valley they called Brig'Kassrik Valley. The cats there were proud and tough, like their mountain home, much tougher than the plaindwellers. But the once great Clan had dwindled in numbers. They distanced themselves from the rest of the world and few outside the Valley knew of its existence. Not many Saigh would wander these places and fewer would stumble upon the Valley. If someone did, it was usually because someone had told them about it.

Frost was born during those times, as one of the sons from the first litter of the Protector, the leader of the Clan. Tough he was not firstborn, he could still become Heir, if he could prove to his father and the Elders that he was better fit for it than his oldest brother. And so the cub spent most of his time bettering himself. His efforts went unnoticed, however, as his father favored his brother and neglected the rest of his cubs. This treatment turned Frost into a bitter cub, but it did not weaken his desire to be leader one day.

Then, one cold night, a pack of rogues attacked the valley. It was lead by a Saigh who sought revenge on the clan, for whatever reason. The Clan was destroyed and young Frost was saved by one of the babysitters. To keep him safe she brought him deep into the heart of the Plains, far from his home. He grew up there, not knowing if any of his family survived.

Now a fully grown, powerful young male, he has finally returned to his birthplace and revived the Brig'Kassrik clan. He recently got reunited with his sister Eirwen, the youngest of his siblings, while traveling across the Plains searching for any surviving clan members, as well as gathering new ones.

The Valley is located at the base of the northernmost parts of the mountains, higher than the Plains, but low enough for a Saigh to survive the cold during the winter months. The winter up here lasts longer and is harsher than in the Plains. During the summer months, however, the Valley is a very pleasant place to be in. There are two main sources of water and a couple of springs here and there. There is also plenty of prey animals an other sources of food, such as fruit trees and berry bushes.

The Stone Gates: The only way into the valley is trough a narrow passage called the Stone Gates - two vertical walls of rock. It is always watched by the Clan's guards and no one passes unnoticed.

The Stone Circle: This is, as the name suggests, a circle of stones, located in the center of the Valley. It is also it's lowest point. This is the place where all important gatherings and celebrations happen. It is also the place where the Council gathers.

Royal dens: This is the place where the Protector and his family live.

Dens: There are two common denning areas. One is at the back of the Valley and it's where most of the Saigh living here reside. The other is closer to the Valley's entrance, but opposite it. Fewer Saigh live there. Most of them are Artisans, who prefer to practice their art in a more quiet setting. A couple of dens are kept empty, for visitors and guest.

Nursery and Healer's dens: This hill is where the Healers and Caretakers can be found. The denning area is split in two with two separate entrances on each side of the hill. On one side is the nursery, where parents leave their cubs during the day and where orphaned cubs are kept. There are plenty of interesting places where the cubs can play here. On the opposite side of the hill, facing the lake, are the dens for the sick and the wounded.

Warriors' camp: A team of Warriors is always stationed there. A new team replaces the old one every morning. Their job is to assist the Watchers if need be and stop anyone who tries to enter forcefully.

Gatekeepers' camp: This is where a team of Gatekeepers of the clan's Watch is always stationed. While two of them keep an eye on the Gates from two posts high up on each side, another couple waits for their shift in the camp. The couples shift every three hours and the team - every morning.

Community strength: There is a strong sense of community in the Clan. They operate as a tightly knit family - the workload is shared and no one is given more or less than what they can handle. Everyone knows one another at least on a name and face basis and everyone keeps an eye out for the cubs - they are the clan's future after all.

Duty: No single Saigh is more important than the Clan as a whole. This lesson is drilled in the heads of the clan members from early cubhood. In order for the clan to prosper everyone must do their fair share, especially during the winter months. Neglecting responsibilities is not tolerated and the offending party may be punished.

Breeding: Breeding is highly encouraged and can happen between mated and un-mated pairs, as long as it is kept within the Clan. Breeding with outsiders is considered degrading by some, unless the outsider in question has been allowed to join the Clan. It's not unheard of however, just rather uncommon.

Birth: The birth of new cubs and new life is a sacred thing. When a mother goes into labor no one but her mate and the Healers may enter her den. Newborns stay in the den with their mother for the first couple of weeks, until their eyes open and they can walk steadily. During this time the mother mother watches her children closely and chooses proper names for them. Then they are presented to the clan and given their names.

Death: When a member of the Clan dies a small ritual must be completed so their spirit may find peace. The body is taken away from the main living area and buried. The grave is covered with stones, so that scavengers won't dig up the body.

The Spring Feast: The Spring Feast is held to celebrate the passing of another year and the end of winter. It is held on the first day of spring and it is the largest celebration of the Clan. On the day of the Feast the Hunters, aided by some of the Caretakers gather large amounts of meat, fruits, berries and all other sorts of food and bring it to the stone circle. The whole Clan gathers there to feast and the celebrations go on until the late hours of the night.

Presentation of cubs: When newborn cubs are ready to leave the den, a ceremony is held where they are presented to the Clan. Everyone gathers in the stone circle and the cubs are placed in the center for everyone to see. There is singing and dancing, and a small feast to celebrate the new life.

Acceptance of an outsider: On the occasion when a new member is allowed to join the clan, a small celebration is held, similar to the cub presenting ceremony.
