Okay so 3 months ago i stopped taking my birth control. I've heard it can take anywhere from 6 months to a year for the hormones to get out of your system. But ive also heard of women getting pregnant right away after they stop taking it.
My fiancee and i are trying to havea baby, now before i got on birth control, i had VERY irregular periods.
The last 3 months its been regular but this month i was 2 weeks late and then spotted for almost a week before i got my period, pretty much how i used to be before birth control.

What's wrong with my body that its doing this?
If i happen to go several months without a period, am i still ovulating?
Do i still have a chance of getting pregnant during this time or is it unlikely?

Also, in an unrelated note - is it normal/safe for the blood to be clotting a little during your period? I know when my mother got cervical cancer her blood clotted, but does it normally happen in women sometimes? Or is it only when theres something wrong with your body?

A lot of women are irregular for no apparent reason. So definitely make sure your ob-gyn is aware of it. But if she says nothing is wrong, then it's nothing to worry about.

It's possible.

Most women with irregular periods can get pregnant. The problem is just that it's harder for them to tell when they are ovulating, so it's harder for them to have sex on the correct days. But you can track your ovulation without using your period as a guide by taking your temperature and watching your discharge.

Most women have clots in their menstrual fluid.

Cervical cancer isn't something you need to worry about too much as long as you are getting regular paps. Cervical cancer is very easy for a doctor to detect and pretty easy to treat. And cervical is not genetic like other forms of cancer are. Cervical cancer is caused by a sexually transmitted virus. So if you have been having normal paps, you probably do not have the virus, which means you are not currently at risk of getting cervical cancer.

Make sure your ob-gyn knows you are trying to conceive, and make sure you are taking pre-natal vitamins.

Also, regarding birth control hormones leaving your system, it depends on the method (to my knowled). Methods like the Pill are going to fade faster than something like Depo Provera, which can take months or even years (I saw online in an article) to fully leave your system.

Otherwise, pretty much everything else Lorien covered. smile

Within several months after stopping all home use hormone method birth control you should be able to start trying. During the time after eat well. I have very irregular periods. Ranging from 30-40 days between or more. I ate a very healthy diet or green veggies, few meats and I took a multivitamin with folic acid everyday. Excersize can help too, as some women who are overweight and drop 10-30 lbs can jump start the normal cycle needed to get preggers. Both of my children were conceived during periods where I was eating right and trying to lose weight, I wasn't even trying when I got pregnant. Stay healthy, try and don't get frustrated if you can help it. It can be hard, especially when you want it that bad. It took 3 years to conceive Grace and I still have a hard time believing I'm preggers again since it was so hard the first time.

I don't know the details with the NuvaRing exactly, sorry. sweatdrop My guess is it'd be like the Patch and the Pill, where it shouldn't take too long to wear off (since those methods are all absorbed into your body, where methods like Depo are directly into your muscle and don't have to be absorbed through as many layers of skin and tissue). But definitely check with your doctor for a better answer and more information, they'd most likely know. smile

I'm trying to eat better - i just have a sweet tooth is all. I actually just got a small bowl of ice cream >_< but atleast ice cream has calcium in it.
I'm taking the one a day teen advantage for her right now, i checked to make sure it has folic acid, i also started taking an iron supplement yesterday since i recently came to the very likely conclusion that i may be anemic.
Excercise is probably something i really need to start doing... : p
I dont do much walking or anything because i just got my licensee about...3 months ago so... obviously i use my car a lot now.

Oh,i hope it doesnt take 3 years, id be so heartbroken... this last time i got my period i cried... (Everyone thought i was pregnant. I had a lot of symptoms and was two weeks late. I knew better but it was still hard, even if we've hardly been trying. I think it was because everyone expected me to be.)
