 Slosh, splash.
"I'm hooooome." the red wolf spoke to himself, gleeful at the prospect of being belly-deep in mud again. The soft ache in the burn-scarred skin over his heart told him when it would rain, and the pain made him happy with that knowledge. Rain meant mud, and mud meant a happy Rochir.
The big male laid himself down, wiggling to and fro until only his head, back, and tail were visible. He closed his eyes and let out a happy grunt, swishing his mud covered tail back and forth, reveling in the slapping sound it made as it made impact each time. This was the life!
He was happy to be rid of the big oaf who had been hanging around him for the past few suns. All that wolf had wanted to do was play in the water or lounge on a rock or in a field and watch the sun rise or set. Rochir hadn't enjoyed it much, but then again, the darker wolf hadn't enjoyed the mud.
It was growing dark, and insects could be heard chirping not so far off. It was warmer than it had been in a while, and Rochir thanked his lucky stars that he wasn't a big bulky mountain wolf with too much fur to suite the summer months.
"Fool." he suddenly accused of no one in particular. Mud kept him cool, and soothed his aching head, and it wasn't long before the lanky male was half-asleep, dreaming muddy brown dreams.

Kirai was not amused. She hadn't been able to catch a meal in a day or so, but that's what she got for not sticking with her previous pack so long ago. Maybe a rabbit...even a squirrel, or a nest of mice.
"Mm..." Her voice lowered into a growl, when she heard something odd.
Wet...drippy...and something was in it. Perking her head up, she tried to look over the underbrush and see what it was...to no avail.
Grumbling to herself, Kirai began to lighten her steps and hunker down, nudging through some open areas between the foliage so she could see what all the ruckus was about. However, all she got was a flash of brightly colored fur...splotches of it in a puddle of mud.
Currently, her mind was working on pure hunger, so she assumed it to be maybe...a fox? Some kind of oddly colored squirrel...rabbit. Who cared, it was food! Getting within a few paces of the puddle, the small wolf bolted for the largest spot of color--the other wolf's back. When she got only a few inches from the larger male, her eyes went wide as saucers, and she tried to skid to a stop--too late, sadly. Her body thunked over into the mud, and she ran full-force into the larger man. Kirai was very tiny for how large her family had been, but then again, she looked nothing like any of her family members either.
"s**t!" She gasped, panic rushing through her instantly. What if she was in another pack's territory? What if she had just ran into some crazed wolf that was cannibalistic? Okay, that was a bit much. Struggling to get to her feet, she bristled, her brightly colored coat looking somewhat odd with the mud caking onto her paws, one side, and all across her face. But, she kept that 'scary' look on her face..depending on how this male looked at her, she might look like some pup trying to pick a fight.

Rochir was too absorbed in his mudbath to realize what was happening. At the last second, he heard something rushing towards him, and his eyes went wide. "What the hell?!" he managed, pulling his forepaws out of the mud in a vain attempt to raise himself up to a less vulnerable stance.
As he laid eyes on his assailant, Rochir felt suddenly confused. Taking in the look on this female's face, he didn't know whether to laugh or be afraid of some creeping mind-sickness.
In the end, the fight to keep his composure won out, and a grin crept across his maw. "I'm sorry for running into you, miss. I wasn't watching where I was going!" he quipped somewhat nervously, the mud having a positive effect on his brain.
This wolf was interesting so far. Rochir liked the way she reacted to her mistake, and was drawn to the interesting and strange blue patterns on her legs. "Are you alright?" he inquired, raising himself to all fours. He was a small wolf, and she was smaller than he! That was a new one to the wolf who usually found himself smallest among his friends.

Being puffed up in such a way made her feel silly. But the look on the other wolf's face made her feel even sillier. Swallowing thickly, she took a step back from the other wolf, hesitantly raising her head up from her defensive stance.
"..." Was he mocking her? Sure sounded like it. Frowning, she eyed him suspiciously, not sure whether to bolt or to snip right back at him. "I'm fine," Kirai said slowly, as if she was unsure. The female didn't run into other wolves often, and this one was a weirdo. What kind of wolf musses up their coats in the mud?
"I...apologize, I thought you were.." She paused, "Food," oops. How dumb was she. When he got to all fours, she had to tip her head up to look at him. Well, damn. Not only had she tried to take out a wolf bigger than her, but he seemed pretty sure of himself with his stance and all that, as well. Her tail dropped momentarily, then she brought it back up, along with her head and ears, passing off as completely and utterly sure of herself.
"Are you okay..?" Kirai had to ask, even though that grin of his made her want to swat it right off his muzzle.

"I'm glad." he dipped his head in sort of a confirmation. She was a strange one, but pretty nonetheless. "Food?" he inquired. That was... odd? He had just eaten, but he didn't think he smelled like food. Maybe she was just that hungry?
"It's fine, though... I'm fine." he smiled at her, hoping to show her that he wasn't trying to be an a** about things. He suddenly wished to help her catch dinner, but was slightly afraid that she would be angry at the offer. The frown on her face was no help in determining what he should do, either.
"I'm Rochir." he offered, dipping his muzzle once more, and standing down a bit. He wasn't used to being bigger than anyone, but did know what it felt like to have to look up to someone all the time due to size and stature. Hopefully that would help.

Hunger made her do weird things--made everyone do weird things. So, she backed out of the mud puddle with wet squishes and splurts, and dropped to sit on her rear end on the dry grass. Lifting up one of her paws, Kirai made an odd face as a glop of the stuff dripped off of her.
Ew.
"Kirai," the female responded automatically, giving her paw a shake to get off as much mud as possible. She did the same with the other paw before standing up and shaking her entire body off--sending droplets of mud in every which direction. But the mud that had been drying worked like hairspray, making certain patches of fur stick up. There was a drying spot on her nose, to which she lifted her paw up again to rub at it.
The smaller wolf had no idea how to act around other wolves...she felt stupid as he watched her. Right as she was about to speak again--her stomach decided to announce to the world that she was hungry. If she could blush, she would be bright red. Ears swiveling back, Kirai looked up to Rochir for a moment, before giving another shake, as if it would cover up her embarrassing moment. "Why were you in the mud?" She spouted, blinking, "It's going to get cold soon.." At night, she meant. And rolling around in the mud didn't sound all that appealing when it was cold out.

Rochir fought and resisted the urge to chuckle at the female's reaction to the mud on her paws. Not every wolf loved the stuff like he did.
Looove.
"Kirai." he repeated, cementing the name in his brain. He was bad about forgetting names - good with faces, but not so much when it came to names. "It's a pretty name." he complimented, moving out of the mud to sit a respectable distance from the she-wolf. He smiled at the patches of fur that stuck out, making her look just as crazy and unkempt as he must look.
When her stomach growled, Rochir quirked an eyebrow and tilted his head a bit as he resisted making a silly comment that she might not appreciate in the least. He was still debating on offering to hunt for her, or with her for that matter.
"I dunno." he smiled again, his tail gently brushing the ground. "I just like it, I guess. Makes me happy." he said with a grin. The red male nodded with her call on the weather. "It will, but the mud'll dry and keep in warmth. It's cold sleeping alone!" he quipped, hoping that she wouldn't take him for a sleaze due to one little joke.

"Thanks," she said blandly, not really wanting to say that she'd prefer a different name...but whatever.
Watching the male wolf sit down in front of her, her head picked up slowly, her ears perking up curiously. Thank god he hadn't made a comment on her stomach...that might just set her off. And being tired, hungry, and now a bit startled from this wolf in front of her--well, she was being somewhat docile for her usual visage.
"It's nice on a hot day," she admitted, cracking a grin that showed off her sharp fangs, "When you have someone to groom you after," Kirai could pull those little jokes to. Here was a bit of who she really was. Pushing herself to stand, the wolf took a few steps towards the other, giving a light sniff at his nose, "You hungry at all? I'll give you some warmth for the night if you show me where the nearest river is. Fish sounds good."

In truth, the male wasn't too hungry, but he could always eat... and he could also tell that his female was hurting for some food. She had given him the perfect opportunity to help her get it, too!
"Sure thing, I can always eat!" he stood, briefly pressing his nose to hers with a coy smile. "River's this way," he made sure she was following before taking off at a comfortable speed. With a bit of luck, his rusty fishing skills wouldn't become a nuisance today.
He had decided, for now, not to comment on her mention of trade of services. It was an interesting proposition, but he'd see where things went after the fishing trip. She was an interesting female, but he had the notion that if you set her off, there would be absolutely no living with her!
