Go find a den, Kwaruza's words echoed in his mind, you both could do with some rest.
His steps were brisk but heavy with a burden - the burden of paving a new life for himself, though that part the brown, burly lion knew he could handle - it was just the fact that fate had decided to etch an unexpected piece of his past into his future pavement. And she was following him.
Back in his old pride, the male was easily able to slip away from any opposition he needed to elude. He was distraught, because this was one of those once in a lifetime moments when the playing field was against him, and he hadn't much options to choose. While quite skilled in matters of physicality, Makuu wasn't something that warranted any type of physical response. In his work, he had adapted to a stony and aggressive front, but of course, recent happenings have put him on edge, and he succumbed to this cub-like and rather dreadfully frightened mentality.
He charged forth towards the outlining of low rocks juxtaposed against the faint greens of the jungle behind them, assuming that was where most of the pride thrived. It was his last hope - that something else would pose as a distraction to the two before Makuu could speak up. He kept his eyes in front, fearing what he would see if he looked back.

"Aminifu, please!"
The peacock colored lioness was hot after his trail, dark paws padding after him as he continued on his stubborn path to find a den to stay in. "Please wait for me? Aminifu, I know you can hear me!"
Makuu knew she'd wronged him. She'd known and thus had followed after him. She was willing to give up her life, her past, her everything for this lion... why couldn't he understand that? Why couldn't he see that she was trying to make up for wronging him? Was it really too late for them?
His pace was brisk but hers was faster and the young lioness moved to dart in his pathway.
"Aminifu, we need to talk." Blue eyes stared up at him, pleading, "Please. I'm not going to go away until you do!"

Aminifu was not deaf, no, but being capable of response to the first thing that he had ever been afraid of called for an entirely different ability - one that was presently absent. He didn't know what he was doing when he ignored the blue lioness's sweet pleas. He didn't know why he was trying to run away from his past, but it still seemed like an achievable feat. Without a doubt, Aminifu had absolutely no idea of what kind of situation he was in at all.
So his paws kept working, straining to reach their destination as if they weren't being matched and defeated by the hustling paws of another. He had simply fallen into one of those beliefs in which if one kept thinking something was real, it would become reality; he kept thinking Makuu was simply a mirage. Perhaps that goal was too far fetched, however, and he cursed himself for his foolish thoughts. Such thinking would get a warrior killed on the field, or stripped of his duties if found with some form of insanity. But maybe Makuu just brought out some insanity in him.
And before he knew it, the problem presented itself to him once more in the small form of a blockade. Had he not had a grain of guilt, hesitance would not have shown itself in his speed. It was guilt for himself, for running away from who he yearned for so long. He was torn, and so he froze, eyes unable to keep themselves off of Makuu's, yet his inexperience with emotions screamed to look away in embarrassment.
If only he had his skull mask to protect him.
Giving in to her demands as well as his own subconscious, Aminifu huffed vocally and slowly, stuck to his spot in rigid form - though whether it was out of fear or obligation to actually stay was unknown. He was unsure of how to answer or speak to her, and unsure of whether he even had the courage to voice something. Thus, his only response was a rather grim, quick nod, eyes still focused on hers, but quivering - almost waiting for another verbal assault like before.

She had braced herself for being shoved aside, fully expecting the larger male to push his way past her and on towards the caves in the distance. When he stopped in his tracks at her plea, she paused, slightly perplexed.
"Aminifu..."
His eyes spoke while his voice remained silent. He was confused, he was hurt. She had hurt him and Makuu could feel nothing but regret over her selfish actions towards him.
Stepping forward, she reached out to nuzzle the underside of his jaw with the top of her head, the gesture an attempt at comfort, when she knew her own words were incapable of consoling the wounded lion. He had scars on his heart that no warrior could give him - but Makuu had managed it, with her careless words.
"I'm sorry, Aminifu," she said quietly, drawing her head back so that their eyes could meet once more, "I wronged you. I realize that now.... but I fear it's already too late. You have every right to be angry with me, to hate and resent me for what I did to you, but I want to ask you for forgiveness. It was wrong of me to treat you like that - you deserve a lioness so much better than me."

A shudder came as Makuu spoke his name. Aminifu scolded himself inwardly for feeling the way he did about Makuu, but he couldn't help it. And the way she said it... His heart froze as did his body. He allowed himself to be stuck to the spot, although he couldn't prepare himself for whatever Makuu could have wanted from him.
And when Makuu stepped up to him, he held back a flinch - why was she getting so close? Then her head made contact with the bottom of his, and he felt his whole body shaking with anxiety, but he also felt a flush of warmth. He didn't lean in, but he did not draw back either. Time was at a standstill, and Aminifu was left simply waiting for Makuu's next action. He was still at a loss of what to do.
As she apologized and moved back, he listened intently as his eyes never parted hers. It took him a while to digest her words, being quite the opposite in its passive, sorrowful tone in contrast to the first words she ever threw at him. Aminifu couldn't fathom what changed the dynamic between them, or whether one instance was true and the reverse false, or whether both were true or false. But she seemed to be setting up some kind of proposition, and it was his turn to respond.
"You do not need to ask for forgiveness," he said quietly, voice strained with unresolved feelings, "I do not hate you, and I am not angry."
Aminifu did not address the latter concern on purpose - he was confused at what to say, as Makuu had always been in his heart, but he was still afraid to show it now. Despite her rejection - and even if she continued to reject him - he held affection for her that wouldn't take just a day to dissipate. But could the affection truly be reciprocated? And even if Makuu was honestly interested, how was Aminifu to know what to do in such a situation?
"I am finding a den to settle in here," he stated firmly, voice stronger this time as he attempted to mask his underlying emotions, "I am not going back."
