The sun hung high in the sky but it was impossible to see it's exact position through the clouds. The thick blanket of grey storm clouds had rolled in early in the afternoon and didn't seem to be leaving anytime soon. They threatened rain, thunder and lightning but so far had produced nothing other than much welcomed shade.
Taking full advantage of cool summer day Carmine had taken to the skies. Her long mane and tail danced behind her like pale, rose colored ribbons. Many would call her insane for flying in such conditions. They would tell her that she was risking her life and asking for Mother Nature to strike her down. She would laugh at them and tell them to bite her.
Her brown eyes were squinted shut as she pumped her wings as hard as she could for more speed. A bitter smile clung to her face as she idly toyed with the thought that lightning would try and take her out. At least that would bring something new and exciting into her life. For the last few months she had been doing nothing outside of her usual routine. There hadn't even been anything worth stealing lately.
A sudden gust of wind knocked her out of her thoughts as she suddenly found herself being carried higher into the sky. 's**t', she thought to herself as she fought to stabilize herself. The updraft had brought her too high.

The bold red stallion charged forward through the gusty wind with powerful downsweeps of his wings. He snorted, shaking his head as the wind whipped his mane about his neck and face and resumed his flight with the devil-may-care grin on his face he was famous for. The sky was darkening and the air was thick with unshed moisture as Akecheta battled through the air. In winds like these, one had to be either crazy, or fearless to fly in this weather. He liked to think himself the latter. None of the others he had been speaking with had been interested in his challenge, and so he had taken to the skies alone, matching his own wit and power against that of mother nature.
There was something, perhaps it was the surge of adrenaline of the threat of danger in every wingbeat that Akecheta craved about this weather. Constantly he tested himself against it, wanting to be faster, strong, better. Sometimes he triumphed, sometimes he came out a little worse for the wear but never had he been deterred.
A stray gust of wind caught him by surprise and he flapped furiously to right himself as he drifted he and right. It was then he caught sight of the other. At first he thought it might be a bird, no other soquili he knew would be tempted to fly in this weater. However the four legs and the streaming mane quickly changed that thought. Akecheta frowned, a bit alarmed as the mare was caught in an updraft that spiraled rapidly skyward. He beat his wings and the wind carried him closer to her, but still below her height. She was definately smaller than he and her body was more easily buffeted by the wind.
"You alright up there?" He called out, hoping the wind would carry his voice to her.

For several seconds the butterfly marked mare had been certain that she had been hearing things. Nothing on the ground would carry this far up into the sky and she had been certain that she was the only one out in the area facing down the storm heads. After steadying her body as much as she could she peered down and found her eyes going wide, there was another someone bellow her. Slightly shocked she simply gaped at the other until the storm decided to remind her that she wasn't in the clear.
Another gust buffeted her, from the side this time, and once more she had to refocus. "I'mma lil busy right now!" She growled fighting against the storm. "'Sides, I can't hear ya anyhow!" She snorted in annoyance as she found that not only was she being forced to the side by the strong winds but backwards as well. Any skill she had as a flyer had been reduced to nothing. She needed to get down before she exhausted herself trying.
"Don't panic!" She shouted as best as she could against the gale before turning down.
Like a king fisher diving into a river for it's supper the thief swooped through the air heading downwards at an alarming rate. Her wings were tucked slightly to her sides to keep from being knocked in an unpleasant direction. Once she was approaching her previous altitude she braced herself and opened her wings wide. The wind caught them and slowed her decent until she was able to beat her wings steadily again.
It was a move her father used frequently and she had 'perfected' it as she would say. The consequences of such movement were felt in her wing joints, a sharp pain that would fade with time. The expression on her face betrayed her desire to keep that hurt a secret. At least she was stable now.

(just a note i am leaving on vacation for a week right before moving into residence so i may or may not have internet connection for the next week or so)
Akecheta watched as the wind mare seemed to steady herself marginally, and then glance down at himself. He briefly saw the shocked expression on her face, he could relate to that one. He knew of no other than himself that would brave a storm like this. The winds shifted again, and again the mare was thrown to the side and he hovered below in concern. The winds up where she was were far stronger and he wasn't sure what she was going to do. Good flier she might be but those were some strong currents she was being tossed around by.
Above the howling wind that buffeted his body he thought he heard her yell 'don't panic,' or something along those lines. Which of course would be ridiculous since she was obviously the one in a great deal more trouble than he. Though he too was being gusted about, he was much lower than her, and heavier than her so he was doing alright for the time being. Perhaps she was speaking to herself, for that would make far more sense than to be telling him to not panic...
And at once his attention was rapidly diverted as the mare gracefully folded her wings and plummeted like a meteor. And of course, he panicked. She was going to kill herself, it had gotten too much and she had just decided to give up and die and she expected him to just watch the whole thing? He couldn't do this, he could watch as someone just died, what was she expecting him to do but panic!?
He swooped down after her, much less gracefully and rapidly than her, but he wasn't suicidal. Of course following her was pretty much moot point at the speed she was travelling but he felt even worse just circling and watching her die. Oh dear god why had his life come to this?
He was thinking these thoughts so intensely that he almost rammed into her as she suddenly pulled open her wings and saved herself from certain death. He did the same with his, only much less practiced than she. Of course his lesser speed helped to cushion the impact on his joints and at once he flew over to her.
"That.....that was just....it was ... fantastic!!!" He exclaimed gleefully, blue eyes gleaming. "That was an amazing trick how did you pull that off? And your wings, they look fine, no sprains! Fantastic," He said again with a devilish grin. Most would have enquired about her well being, but it was obvious to Akecheta the mare was fine. He was more concerned with that awesome flying trick she had pulled off.

(That's fine. ^^ Answer whenever you have time.) Sucking in a deep breath she steeled herself against the hurt. A confident smiled wiped the pained expression from her face as she turned to look at the approaching smile. She would have pegged him for an idiot fanboy the way he was babbling if it had been any other day. No fanboy that she knew would ever risk his life out in storms like this. She was certain of that fact so instead of labeling him she just took his amazement as a compliment.
"Thanks." She replied with a casual toss of her head. "It's just somethin I do ya know?" She winked at him then beat her wings a few times to both check that his observation about her lack of injuries was correct and to keep herself airborne. While she still experienced some sharp, throbbing pains with movement it was nothing serious. She released a silent sigh of relief. Either she had finally gotten lucky or her body was just becoming accustomed to her borderline suicidal behavior.
Satisfied with the knowledge that his observations were correct she decide that it was her turn to make a few observations of her own.
Peering at the stallion out of the corner of her eye she gave him the once over. He was larger then her, which was no surprise, but she was pleased with the knowledge. As far as looks went he fell squarely in the ruggedly good department. Sadly he didn't seem to have any valuables on him. It seemed that her fortunes weren't that good still.
"So~, what brings you up on this fine day?" She asked after a short while, a sing song tone in her voice. So things weren't perfect, he was better then many she had seen. Besides, what harm would there be in having a bit of fun?

He gave a half smirk at her cheeky wink, though most of him was still impressed with her dive. Though Akecheta had seen her initial observation of him, he had to admit it had seemed a little like he was some colt gushing over her like that. Not quite his smoothest move, but she didn't seem put off by it. Hopefully he would have time to remedy that, he wouldn't mind taking some time to get to know this mare.
Though he did not know it yet, the coy mare with the rose coloured mane was a collector, which would have given them one more thing in common. Akecheta didn't exactly call himself that in such descriptive terms...but it was a part of him none the less. However while most "collectors" valued items or jewels or things or beauty and riches; Akecheta valued talent. He was a collector of abilities, in a manner of speaking. Some he had developed himself, but others were learned off of the birds he saw soaring through the air with technique and grace that he envied. He had seen the mare's dive, admired it greatly. And he wanted it, to be able to fall so suddenly and freely and then pull up again just in the nick of time.
Ake noticed her eyes give him a sweep, and she seemed to like what she saw, which he enjoyed. He took his own time too, to look her over. Small, lean frame, windblown mane, and a devil-may-care look in her flirtatious eyes that made him grin. She was pretty, no denying that and she seemed to be up for a little fun. His day had just gotten a little more interesting.
"Oh, nothing much. Storm chasing I suppose. It seemed like a good day for a flight if you know what I mean. Though I must admit I was rather surprised to see someone else out as well. You like the thrill as well then I take it?"

Carmine had not missed his eyes looking her over. Every time it happened it gave her a small thrill especially when she was met with a smile afterwards. The smile marked a thought and that thought was generally of approval at the very least. Approval of her looks. It was always a nice way to inflate her ego.
She bobbed her head from side to side with a little flutter of her eyelids signaling that she understood. It did seem like a good day for a flight. If she had vocalized this point she could have also said it seemed like a good day to gamble with fate. "That would make two of us then." She added with a little toss of her mane. Considering that the wind still wrapped around her as she moved slowly through the air to stay in the sky her movement only sent a ripple down her mane. She hoped that it still gave off the desired effect despite it not being as dramatic.
"And I'd say I probably like it more." The words had formed on their own but she couldn't help but wonder: who did like it more? A cool look settled on her face with a playful spark in her eyes. A silent challenge. After a second she decided to say what was on her mind. "Who d'ya think will go further?" She wanted to know who really liked thrills the most?

Akecheta's nostrils flared slightly as she tossed her mane and the long strands rippled slightly out behind her. She smelled of sweetness and diffused adrenaline, the adrenaline he could well relate to, the sweetness was all her own. He eyed her again as she commented subtly, Ake suspected she was probably hoping for something of that response from him. But she was pretty, easy on the eyes and he had never been one to beat around the bush about that.
But just because his eyes were focused on one thing did mean his mind didn't pick up on her subtle musings. An indirect challenge, or a test. So she thought she enjoyed it more? He noticed the way she trailed off as she spoke the words, turning some thought or other over in her mind as she did so.
"Hm, you would say that you like it more. But you can say what you wish, talk is still just talk," he answered her, wing muscles flexing a little. He didn't want to think of his movements as anticipation...but he coulnd't help feel the excitement of a challenge spark him to life. He waited and she spoke again, this time a direct challenge he would be an idiot not to pick up on. He had been wondering if she might say something of the sort and the gleam in her eyes answered him.
"Well I know who I think would go further," he said, the same teasing but challenging tone she had issued her previous statement in. "But there's only one way to find out. Sure your wings can still manage your tumble?" He reached out briefly to brush her wing with his feathers. The cheeky grin on his face told her he was only teasing, he didn't doubt her flying abilities.

She smirked a little at his reaction. This was exactly what she had been hoping for from him. It was exactly what she needed, a little competition. Just a little something to push the limits and face down death with a wild smile. "Like you said, talk's just talk." She responded playfully.
Her expression shifted quickly to a cool flirtatious smile at the contact. His teasing amused her and somehow she turned that too into her own competition. "Oh, I'm sure they can handle it." She murmured beating them a few times. On the last flap she extended her wing just enough to brush the tips over his neck. She had her own way of teasing.
"So...the course?" Her tone had become casual, even sing songy in quality. "Or are you more the type for a little...free style?" She would go for either one naturally. A planned course would be easier to judge a winner, the competition would be more focused however she imagined that an unplanned one would offer a lot more fun. One way there would be a clear winner and the other more of a thrill or at least that's how the thief saw it.

He flared his nostrils as she lightly brushed her wingtips over the base of his neck, turning to give her an equally teasing look as the one she was observing him with. One thing was certain, she was matching him in every way so far, flying and flirting.
Akecheta considered her offers, a course, or freestyle? Had this mare been some other crazy diehard stallion looking for a thrill, Ake would have immediately said race, after all he did love the feeling of flying all out against an opponent to taste the thrill of victory. However...it wasn't that he wouldn't more more than happy to race the pretty little daredevil, but he felt no intense need to prove himself right now and besides, a race was just a race. With freestyle, things could get a little more fun. And he certainly wouldn't mind getting to know this mare a little more, she was after all, a lot like him. Just cuter.
"Well I suppose a race would give us a winner, but freestyle seems just so much more appropriate, given the weather don'tcha think?" He said with a c**k of his head and a wink. Ake was of course, referring to the rolling winds and storm that threatened to explode overhead. Though a race would test skill and endurance, freestyle would let them play, and he was feeling a bit in a playing mood to be honest.
"Still....I do always enjoy a bit of a challenge, and of course a prize. You see there is a particularly pretty mare who's name I would love to know. Tell me, what's the price of a pretty dardevil's name?" He moved closer to her and gave her mane a little lip before flying a short distance away. Just because it wasn't exactly a straight out comeptition, he always enjoyed the feeling of competing, of a goal. This time, she was the goal, whatever challenge she gave to him.

Good, they were on the same page here. A satisfied smile settled on her lips as she turned to gaze upon the storm momentarily. Freestyle certainly did seem more appropriate on this day. Her attentions were pulled back barely a half second later as he spoke once again.
A pretty mare? A feigned expression of shyness settled on her tanned features. However the fake expression never made it to her eyes, they remained as teasing, flirtatious and fiery as ever. Whoever could he be talking about? He wanted to know what her name was? She smirked a little watching as he flew off a little ways resisting the temptation to n** at his hair. She had never been a prize before. Prizes had always been valuable bits of shiny to her but she had to admit the feeling of being worth enough to be considered a prize was quite nice.
Using the wind currents as well as she could she glided over towards. On her way past she gave him her answer, "Just show me a good time baby." This was accompanied by a flick of her long tail and a little enticing shake of her rump before diving towards the ground in an elegant swoop. Their free style test had begun and if he wanted his prize Carmine expected to see quite the show from him.

((so sorry this is waaaaaay overdue @.@))
Though her expression feigned innocence, her eyes spoke the truth and despite her brief attempt at shyness he could see she wasn't really convincing anyone. His own blue eye's sparkled back in a michevious anticipation and he watched her out of the corner of his eyes. He knew she would probably take off like a rocket and he wanted to be ready, after all impressing her would take more than impressing most other mares he had met. To most her was a showman, a daredevil. With her it was different, she was more of a...partner in crime, so to speak. The wind pulled furiously at his mane and wingfeathers and Ake felt his excitement mount as the pink-haired beauty flicked her tail at him, stray hairs brushing against his coat before she took off.
Not one to be left behind, he tucked his wings and spiraled tightly after her, gaining speed and waiting until he was almost behind her. Opening his left wing slightly, he banked to the side in a wide spiral overtop of her, pulling back up when he was level with her and joining her in her graceful dive. Pulling slightly ahead again, he kept his dive as he fell towards the ground, knowing she was right behind him. Normally he would do this with any other soquili, but after her impressive dive Ake knew she wasn't afraid of the speed. As he grew nearer and nearer to the tall grasses below, he began to open his wings slowly, slowly his pace just slightly and angling his body the slightest bit. As the wind caught beneath his wings and the grass came almost beneath him he opened his wings and the angle of his body rocketed him along the surface of the ground, he feet just brushing the tops of the grass, stirring up a violent windstorm on the ground that followed his wake.
He tossed his head, eyes alight in enjoyment. He loved the feeling of the speed, the power, the wind rushing over him. He gave a quick glance over to check where she was, giving the mare a wink as he brushed through the grass.
