Leilani gave an aggravated humph, shoving the door closed to her small hut with a loud bang. The people around here were starting to get on her nerves. They kept asking the stupidest questions and all it did was reopen her wounds and make her relive that unholy terror over and over. Couldn't they understand that she just wanted to be left alone? That she wasn't going to get any better than this?

Of course she wasn't okay! What the hell was the matter with those idiots? Those barbarians had captured her and forced her to dance for them. 'Just like old times', the bloody bastards had delighted in telling her. Chained and left below deck like some common rat that nobody bothers to care enough about to feed or let bathe.

14 days she was with those heathens and they ask her if she's okay. Why not just hand her the bloody knife and let her finish the damn job herself.

Theron watches Leilani slam the door to her hut and decides to come over. Just incase. He'd taught himself to quit loving her, but he still worried.

He taps quietly on her door. "'Lani?" he asks. "It's Theron. Can I come in?"

Leilani sighed, plopping down onto her bed. She debated wether or not to answer him. It wasn't that she didn't like the faun, she just wasn't sure she had the patience to deal with anybody right now.

Then again, Theron had been there for her through everything that had happened, so she felt she owed him some small amount of loyalty and friendship. He had resued her from that hell hole and seen what those monsters did to her. And he always made sure she was okay. Yes, he was probably the closest thing she had to a friend.

Getting back up, she walked over to the door and cracked it just enough to be able to look Theron in the face. "If you ask me if I'm okay, I will hit you." she warned him, leveling him with a serious stare. When she was pretty sure he had gotten the point, she stepped back and swung the door open to let him through.

"Okay. Duly noted." Theron lets himself in and shuts the door. "Glad all that nonsense is over. And I'm glad you're safe, 'Lani."

He quells the impulse to tuck some of her dark hair behind her ear. He just felt so...protective of her. He sighs softly. "What had you thought to do with your evening? I can make dinner if you like." Not that his cooking skills were that great...

His simple concern cooled the edge of her anger a bit. She liked to think that it wasn't pity that kept him coming back but a genuine like of her. Even if she couldn't figure out why.

Leilani gave the young faun a rare smile. "Thank you Theron. I'm just not that hungry though. I'm sorry." she lied. She was hungry but she didn't want to burden him with anymore than he already did for her.

Settling herself on the far end of her bed so that he would have a place to sit int he tiny hut, she snuggled back against the wall.

"How is your dancing coming along?" she asked, trying to feign interest she no longer felt for the sport.

Theron chuckles darkly. "I'm afraid it's more baton-twirling than dancing, really. I'm no dancer--I'm a hunter. The fire stick feels right in my hands, but the steps are awkward on my feet." He shrugs gently and sits on her bed cross-legged.

"Although I suppose I did give a decent performance at that blasted party the other night," he adds, leaning his chin on his hand and rolling his eyes. He doesn't mention the dance he did.

She nodded, wanting to reach over and pat his back but still uncomfrtable with phsical contact, even of her own making.

"You'll grow into them. They always feel ackward at first. I doubt you remember my first recital. I fell off the stage." she recalled, giving a small, halfhearted chuckle.

She closed her eyes and leaned her head back as she remembered the happier times in her life. "I think I was 8 at the time. I was trying to dance "The Rising Sun."

"The Rising Sun?" asks Theron. "I still haven't gotten that one yet. And you danced it when you were eight?" An impressed tone creeps into his voice, which might or might not have been deliberate flattery.

"As for growing into the steps, I doubt it. The only dance I was meant to do is the tango between hunter and hunted." Of course, occasionally this applies to courtship as well, but he wisely decides to omit it.

She opened her mouth to tell him he was speaking nonsense when her stomach gave a tale telling growl. Emarrassed, she quickly wrapped her hands around the noise maker as though to silence it.

Cheeks bright red, she look at Theron apologetically. "Opps. You wouldn't believe that was the wind, would you?" she asked, hoping he wouldn't think she had lied to him on purpose.

Theron laughs. "I'll make you some noodles," says Theron, hopping off of the bed with a soft clop-clop of his hooves. He waits for her to follow him, then goes to the kitchen to put a pot to boil.

"Do we want red sauce or butter sauce?" he wonders aloud, then looks to Leilani for the decision.

Leilani leaned agaist the door frame, watching him work. "Red, I guess. You know you don't have to cook for me, right Theron?" she said, a grateful smile belying the frustration in her voice.

"Spaghetti it is, then," he says with a patient smile. He collects the ingredients and moves about the kitchen with a familiarity he doesn't even have with his own kitchen.

"I know, 'Lani, but I like cooking for two. It's easier than cooking for one, and it helps me get better. Perhaps one day I'll progress to fancier dishes, maybe ones involving vegetables!" He chuckles and tosses the noodles into the almost-boiling water. He'd always been able to cook meat, being a hunter by trade, and he'd recently mastered the art of pasta. But vegetables and desserts were still a complete mystery to him. The last time he'd tried to steam broccoli it'd ended up inedible green mush.

"Besides, I'll let you handle dessert," he jokes.

She gave an even rarer chuckle and stepped into her tiny kitchen. She liked vegetables but there wasn't much you could put with spaghetti other than a salad.

"I think I can handle dessert." she teased back, her spirits in a better place than before he showed up. He had that effect on her, wether she liked to admit it or not.

Reaching down under the sink, and dangerously close to his legs, she pulled out a big bowl, and two cake pans. "So, chocolate cake or white cake?" she asked, looking up at him.

Theron hops aside with a soft clop-clop, and instead leans over to keep stirring the sauce pot. "I like white cake better, but it's up to you," he answers.

Her laughter and mood warm his heart. This feeling is why he continues to be her friend, even though it breaks his heart sometimes. Still, he's a patient man, and would wait for her until the end of time.

Grabbing her supplies, she stood back up. "Well then, white cake it is." she said, setting her dishes on the counter and walking over to her fridge.

Chocolate really was better than white but Theron deserved what little she could give him, since she couldn't give him what he really wanted. She didn't have anything left to give.

Reaching into the fridge, she piled eggs, milk, and butter in her arms and shut the the fridge with her foot.

Setting them on the counter, she then rummaged through the cabinents, searching out the flour she needed. Then the sugar, which she added to her growing pile on the counter.

"So." she started but not really sure how to finish, measuring out her ingredients as she went.
