Where all must pay homage to music....

Hi, I just wanted a random discussion about your favorite things about The Phantom of the Opera, or any other versions. I haven't seen a version other than the 2004 movie, and I'm still in the proccess of reading the book by Gaston Leroux. I guess you could say I'm a new Phan.

Well chat and be merry. I shall watch from my regular seat in Box Five. Don't take my private box.

Well, i'm posting now.

My favorite lines in the musical are the ones in your sig, and the managers' tongue twisting *takes a deep breath* who would have the gall to send this? someone with a puerile brain. these are both signed OG. who the hell is he? opera ghost. it's really not amusing he's abusing our position in addition he wants money what a funny sort of spectre to expect a large retainer nothing plainer he is clearly quite insane. *breaths*

My favorite movie is the Lon Chaney one.

My favorite cover of the theme song is the one Nightwish did. Tarja's voice = orgasm.

I read the book first so i compare everything to it, and everything falls short in some area or another, but the whole phantom universe is just... breathtaking.

I post from time to time...

My favourite incarnation of the Phantom of the Opera is the Susan Kay book... and my favourite part of that is the twist at the end when Raoul finds out that Christine's child is not his. I'm just too much of an idealist/ romantic... I loved the idea that Christine and Erik's love was able to produce something so beautiful.

Of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical... well, there are so many beautiful moments in that. The entire scene between Erik and Christine - straight through from "Insolent boy!", to "Come - we must return" - skipping the scene between Buquet and Giry in the middle there! Then the scene with Erik after "All I Ask of You" - "I gave you my music."

Favourite lyrics:
"What I love best, Lotte said, is when I'm asleep in my bed and the Angel of Music sings songs in my head."
"But his voice filled my spirit with a strange, sweet sound - in that night, there was music in my mind. And through music my soul began to soar! And I heard, as I've never heard before..."

I was actually disappointed with the 2004 movie - I couldn't believe they cut out the 4th verse of the theme song, or that they had the actors speak so much of the sung lyrics! As for changing the overture - well, I was shocked. The variation sounds good, but to change what has been the definitive overture of the Phantom for the last 18 years... just shocked me. I don't have a favourite movie of the Phantom... except possibly the adaptaion of the Susan Kay book I plan to write..!

I hope no Gerard Butler fans get mad at me for this, but I fell I must say this. By far, Micheal Crawford pwns him. And he doesn't sing as well as he's supposed to. I can sing Music of the Night better than him. I love that song. I have nothing against Gerard Butler, but some things must be said.

Favorite Phantom: Robert Englud(Hadn't seen original play)

Second Favorite: Erik.

*sings* Twisted every way what answer can I give?
Am I to risk my life to earn the chance to live?
Can I betray the man who once inspired my voice,
Do I become his pray, do I have any choice?
He kills without a thought, he murders all that's good
I know I can't refuse. And yet, I wish I could
Oh, God if I agree what horrors wait for me in this
The Phantom's opera

I must disagree about Butler's voice! I absolutely love his voice, expecially during Music of the Night.

"Night-time sharpens,
heightens each sensation"

The way he hits the word "heightens" = orgasm

Sorry. Just had to say that. xp

Not to challenge you, I do find his voice pleasing. ((Hieghtens=orgasm)) It's just that he has more of a rockstar's voice than an operatic voice. One thing is, listen to Music of the Night closely, and you'll hear a few unpleasing sounds, but I guess he did a good job. I guess I just notice these things because I sing opera. Also, The Point of No Return, I'm sorry, but there was bad stuff in there. If he were a Rock singer, I'd heart him more, but not Opera. Not that he's that bad, but he could've been better.

Yet again I find myself in a forum in which my post in the first belonging to a male. Am I the only male in this Guild? Either way, on to my purpose for posting.

To begin, my favorite versions are Gaston Leroux's original book and Andrew Lloyd Webber's, both the play and the movie. I found Leroux's version suspenseful and mysterious and Webber's, somehow, enchanting. It seemed to really pull you in to the story.

My favorite character is The Phantom, my favorite of the lot and one of the best figures in all of literature, second only to D'Artagnan and the Musketeers, a childhood favorite of mine. I also find the managers, Firmin Richard (Gilles Andre) and Armand Moncharmin (Richard Firman), to be very funny and highly amusing. I even found La Carlotta to be rather funny, especially in the movie. "--Ma...Until you stop these things happening, this thing does not happen!" "--Now you see. Bye-bye, I'm really leaving."

My favorite songs are any song with The phantom from "Angel of Music" to "Track Down this Murderer." My favorite four, however, have to be the "All I Ask of You (Reprise)" on the roof, "Stranger than you Dreamt It," "Music of the Night," and "The Phantom of the Opera."
