sOOOOoooo...i played tenor sax for 3 years, then switched to alto. the reason i switched to alto was because in freshman year there were a bajillion tenors, and like 4 altos. since then, the numbers have switched (now there are a bajillion altos). im considering asking my teacher if i can switch back to tenor, even though im second chair alto in wind ensemble. hmmm....????

Wow. My band is just the opposite. We have like 10 altos and 1 tenor! (I'm the only tenor!) I used to play alto but our only tenor player was elected Drum Major, so my Band Director moved me to tenor. Still getting used to it. I like the way it sounds, but I don't like the music that's written for it. It's all harmony (I think).

Ahaha, my band has 32 altos and 4 tenors.
I definitely think you should play bass sax. It's lower than bari and awesome. The one our school owns is like 30 years old. xD
Seriously, though, I'd switch back to tenor. I mean, you've played it before, so why should your BD have any reason not to let you switch?

I would ask to go back to tenor, my high school's jazz band layout was always with an excessive amount and tenors and alto's and only one bari *me*, I say go for it, my first thought was relearning the key change and such but if you already have experience in the past then go for it! Its always good to help out in what little way possible to level out the sound

Everyone knows that tenor is the most awsomest instrument out there, so, altos, don't h8. We know you all suck balls. My Bd in 7th grade wanted me 2 play tenor in the jazz band, and I love it!!! I play flute too, but i would drop my flute in a heartbeat to play my baby. Yeah, so when I came 2 highschool, I was pretty poed about my BD not letting me play my baby, but he said, my neck would give out, and it would be complicated to march with.

I have played just about any saxophone you have heard of, but I think you should go to tenner to, even tho I like the spranno better! lol, I had to do the contra bass when our 1 and only 1 tuba moved to another school, I don't like playing hole notes all day, but it was a good change
