Things were in order so far. Edgar, Merrihk, and Enli were introduced to Chivosi and Menelaus at long last, and the pack was on its way to forming. Merrill was beginning to grow in confidence that, goofy name or not, the YMCA would become a reality worth working for. At last she could scratch the itch of her busy-body nature and be a beta again with purpose. But business was business first.
She should have known that her alphas were scatter-brained enough to not have marked the territory by now, so it was shouldered to her to begin scouting the immediate area for other packs or human settlements. In the least there were a few hilly areas Merrill spied, the height elevation somewhat soothing - though nothing would ever take the place of the mountaintops in her heart. The purple wolfess also made sure to stay close to the river, or any body of water, when possible; she figured Menelaus would appreciate it. Yet her keen ears were beginning to capture something beyond the summertime birds' songs, or the simple murmuring of the river. It seemed to dip down into the land towards a larger source of water: a lake, she spied, with something splashing madly in its depths.
Had a fish gone mad? She went to investigate the anomaly.

Yet again.. that mistake! It kept attacking him with floods of water to the lungs and a mind filling with a cloudy darkness. His sister had gone off while they were hunting and wasn't back yet. Oh how he HATED water. Despised it's shady figure when it sat there.. reflecting the image of him. He would have growled had he been able to open his jaws without getting another wave of the horrendous water.
Getting just above the water for a split second he let out a fragile yip of fear and prayed help would hear it. It was a daring task barking like that. An animal in trouble was easy prey but, he hoped his sister would get the call before anyone else did. he fluttered a bit and to his horror saw a purple figure in the distance. At this time he was on the verge of passing out nearly.
His limbs weren't going to go on working this time. He got lucky, he had just learned that fast. Luck was a big part of his life. He wished hard for it now. And with his mind was trying to will the purple figure away. The wolf wasn't to close but, the big splashes he'd been making must've caught the attention, and that yip?
He was screwed..

Several sources told her it was a pup: one, the scent was definitely wolf, though watered down of course; two, it yipped very much like a wolf; three, upon closer look, it was a young green wolf thrashing about the water, snout barely above the surface now.
Oh. Well good going there, sherlock! Now Merrill did not have much experience with deep water, but her other training kicked in regardless. Maybe diving around deep snow was the same as water? Not quite, as the beta found, sinking but paddling with powerful strokes. It stung to open her eyes underwater, but it didn't take long to find the flailing paws and, with some heaves, managed to grab the young wolf awkwardly around the scruff of his neck without warning him; spirits, but was heavy, and his efforts to stay above water hindered her own. Poor soul seemed right ready to fight death with every bit of energy left in him.
The muscles in her neck were just as excercised as those in her limbs as she dog-paddled their way to shore, eventually finding mud beneath her paws (thank the spirits for being long-limbed!). Panting, Merrill staggered her way out of the water with the sopping teen at her breast, dropping him unceremoniously into the sandy beach as she bent her head and caught her breath. Being born in the mountains meant having very thick fur, and said fur being wet weighed a lot more than she could have ever imagined . . .
"You . . . you all right down there?" Merrill eventually managed, glancing at the sack of plastered green fur before her.

The 'big purple monster' as he'd decided to name it had grabbed him and hoisted him from the water. Still in bad tempers but, weak from the water he tried desperately to get away, roll, kick whatever he could and ended up realizing the water had made him weaker then he could imagine.
"You, you stay away from me beast!" His eye's were blurry and could only make out the sight of a purple blob and his nose, the scent of a wolf. But, it was bulky, extra fur? He couldn't tell. By the voice he determined it female and even considered it friendly. But, he couldn't take any chances not with his sister out there.
It wasn't long before he gave into it all and was soon passed out. Hi sbody had had enough of his struggling and fighting. He was still young, just newly a teen and not experienced with water at all. But, his pelt, green and dark in patches couldn't hide the muscle he'd already gained from hunting and defending, scars marred his legs and small ones nicked his face here and there, hooves.
He was as marked as an elder wolf but, obviously not near old enough to have them.

It took Merrill a few seconds to register the sputters issued at her. Of course by then her near-victim had passed out and was denied having to watch her cross expression and slight roll of the eyes. "Beast", was it? She snorted. Honestly . . . Still, the boy growing quiet and limp was enough to grab her attention, and she nudged her nose about him to check the young wolf's condition.
He definitely wasn't pampered if she could glean anything. A few scars here and there caught her eye, but a slower glance would've shown her the extent of damage done. What Merrill was more concerned over was whether he could breath and, not sure what else to do in a case like this, she took a deep breath, stood up straight, scooted to the green one's side, and pressed a paw to his chest. Gently, yet firmly, she began to massage it up, tilting his mouth to the side and making sure it was open so that perhaps she could force out any water in his lungs. She had to wonder idly, however, what the boy was doing in the middle of the lake all by himself in this condition.

A sputtering cough brought the boy back to life and he heaving a bit, the water passing out of him causing him to gag quite a bit. He lay there a moment, his eye's coldly staring at the wolfess above him. Her purple fur was as soaked as his and much thicker. So it wasn't her, the fur itself had some weight. He was pleasantly surprised that his captor was actually quite lovely to see.
"Hmn.." He groaned a bit as he tried to move. Everything was sore to the tip of his tail and to the point of his nose. He fought that though and brought himself up into a standing position that soon fell into a sitting position.
"Hello." He smiled through the soreness of his limbs but, had gazed a little from the fem. He wondered a moment where hsi sister was. She hadn't made a peep since he'd left her to herself. He trusted she was okay though and looked back to the wolf. "Thank-you."
He sighed, sick of needing saving. Being saved just brought back the face of his beautiful Mother. And her hiding him away with his family to be saved..

At the sound she dropped her paw, shaking it a litle of the residual water. Spirits, but she would be sunbathing for hours now lest the new weight burden her on her trip about the soon-to-be pack territory! "Those two would laugh their sorry hinds off at the sight of me now," Merrill murmured to herself darkly, imagining a gleeful Chivosi and Menelaus welcoming their sodden beta back. Funny how this one called her a beast one moment, then went back to friendly hellos the next; she made a note not to get water-logged like this poor soul, and start babbling nonsense.
"Have anyone I can bring ya to?" she inquired, stepping back with a somewhat sour look as she looked about herself. A shake, a good shake was in order . . . She took more great strides back on slightly shaking legs and got right to shaking herself silly.

Pekko took her steps back for exactly what he knew they'd be and turned his head and closed his eye's a moment til he heard the shaking cease. "No." He said flatly. If he was misjudging this wolf then he wouldn't make the mistake of bringing down his sister as well. His chest was heaving but, puffed out a bit and hackles attempted to raise, he was trying to make himself seem bigger but, he knew if the she-wolf wanted to she could destroy him.
"My name.. is Pekko. What's yours?" Distractions. His main idea was a distraction, get dry, get her distracted and bolt. Though.. brainless conversation was all he could think of as a distraction and for now it would have to do.

If she noticed his attempts to show dominance, they were surely ignored or overlooked. Apparantly she had shaken too hard, and the purple fur was almost exploding from her body in certain areas, still plastered in some, and still yet wet in others; some strands were getting close to coverin her eyes, and she tossed her head with a disgruntled sound to clear her vision. "Pekko. What, got something with birds?" Merrill asked, swishing her tail and sending water droplets flying in a small arc.
How on Telk could Menelaus stand this stuff?
"Call me Merrill, young one. Really have no-one to go to?" She had to suspect that a wolf wouldn't just throw themselves to drown alone . . . unless they really were depressed with themselves, but even that was rare to drive someone to some extreme like that.

Pekko grimaced at the comment about birds, he didn't fancy birds to much either and didn't catch onto why Merrill had made this connection. His eye's closed and reopened a moment, focusing them on the tormentor that..
She was beautiful! His eye's had to be deceiving him. The cruel sounding beast! was a lovely sight for his sore eye's. "Merrill." He tasted the name as if having his first taste of that endearing creature, deer, his favorite meal.
"No, I don't have something with birds. It's the name my Mother gave me. I'd rather you leave it be." He didn't threaten the way he usually would nor did he make any rude movement. he just stated it simply. Proud of his name and hurt by the remembrance of the parents he'd never see not to mention his siblings. he was lucky to have Vittoria still.
"I have no one to see. I'm alone here." He said this with another grimace. His heart was aching deeply now. The worst pain he'd ever been through was always from teh heart. The ache for the warmth he once had. The fear he'd known all his life. The knowledge that the murderers were still loose in these woods. He was sure he'd have his revenge someday but, wasn't going to pray for it.
He huffed a bit, his eye's about to glaze over with tears but, he bit them back. "What are you doing out here?" He asks.

It wasn't as though Merrill was not swayed by sympathy for the lonely teen, but for a fact he was not the only one whom was forced to a solitary life through tragedy; she herself was an example. Funnily, her life had ended up in much better circumstances than she could have imagined, all for just stopping by to ask for directions of all things!
"Shame," Meme tutted, not noticing the strange affect placed on her name when spoken since she chalked it up to more of the water-logged symptoms. "Well you've run into a spot of luck. I'm scouting the land for my pack right now, and if I hadn't decided to follow the river you might be in very different paws right now. Suppose you can follow me if you feel up to it back home where you can rest yourself for a few days; we're pretty peaceful, young one, and you will be welcomed by the alphas."
Irritated with her appearance, the purple beta sat down and began to push her fur back down into her place with quick swipes of her tongue, not at all liking the taste of lakewater. Somehow it seemed tainted compared to the snow-crisp waters she was used to. "And you may stay for as long as you wish," Merrill added between cleaning licks.

Luck. He found that hard to swallow but, accepted the 'drink'. "A pack?" He let that stir about in his mind. The idea of being with a large group again was to appealing not to entertain. He gazed at her, giving her fur a tongue-lashing and then gazed away a moment when she spoke. He didn't want to appear rude. He wasn't. He was one of the older of the group of his siblings and learned a bit from his parents.
Manners was a big thing.
He nodded. His eye's still averted but, they seemed to shift and stare at her. A grin never ceased in them, not when he looked at her. "I'll come with you." He says simply and stands. "Lead the way and I'll tag along." He smiles sweetly and awaits a command.

It took her some time to control the fursplosion, spitting out lakewater every few seconds or so - ever the meticulously patient one when it suited her. It would just have to dry and go down on its own. "Pack, yes," Merrill said as she stood, giving one final shake before padding to him, giving the green boy a lookover. "Sure you can walk? We'll go a tad slow since I'm not sure if your lungs'll give out." She had heard ghastly tales before of pups dying from dry-drowning: when water somehow trapped at the bottom of the lungs began to grow moss and all manner of aquatic plants until the poor thing was suffocated.
But that was only a wives' story as far as she was concerned.
"Tagalong close, then, if you can. We won't be going far since I'd rather you lay down and recover soon from the ordeal." With that, the beta began to move forward, following the form of the lake. Certainly not within the reach of the irritating sand, of course.

Vittoria left a few hours ago to go hunt. Pekko seemed to tired and she didn't want him to use up more energy so she'd offered to get the meal for tonight. She wasn't the best hunter around though and her brother was surely better than her. A deep sigh welled up in her. The dead hare she held between her jaws had to do. She walked back to the spot her brother had promised to wait for her. But she knew him. He could've easily scattered off to explore or something like that. And if that was the case, hopefully her nose would lead her to him.
Nearing the lake she picked up the scent of her beloved brother. But there was something else.... another smell. Vittoria held her nose high and took a deep sniff. Her eyes widened and the hare fell out of her mouth. The scent of another wolf! Her legs stiffened and the hairs on her back straightened up. Could ik be the.. them? They would kill Pekko! The scars fom her past were buried deep into her memory.
Holding her head low she peeked trough the bushes. She saw her brother...and a full-grown purple female. They were talking! What was he doing? Thinking about what could be going on here she decided what to do. The female didn't seem hostile so she'd take the risk. Slowly she padded trough the bushes until she was behind Pekko. After that she stepped out of hiding. "B-brother? Who's that?" She asked in a quiet whisper.

Pekko turned to see his revealed sister. His eye's shifted a bit bakc to the female wolf and then to his sister once more. "This, this is Merrill." He introduced her slowly to let his voice show his sister that she'd be safe. "She saved my life." He gave a wolf-ish grin and nodded.
