Alright, so I'm going to be heading off to my very first Munch in a few hours.
(I know most of you know what a Munch is, but just in case anyone's confused, it's basically a vanilla-style, casual setting for S&Mers to go meet others with the same tastes and just relax.
Example: Mine's at Boston Pizza. We're not wearing scene clothes or anything like that. We're just going there to meet some other people who are into the lifestyle and hopefully spark some friendships.)
Now, I've been hearing about these for a while, but never actually got involved in one before. So, I told one of my friends about my interest, and this time, she called me up and asked me to show up. As I've never been to one before, I'm not sure what to expect, but my hopes are high.
Now, tell me: what's your opinion on Munches? Are they an effective way to meet others involved in BDSM, or no? What's good about them, and what might be a little better if it was different?

Never quite seen the need, but I know a lot of people would find them helpful.
Personally I don't think I'll ever go to one, but heigh ho - different strokes for different folks.

I find it nice to chat with other kinky people. It's more about just getting out of the house and seeing people who share the same interests for me. It's fun. 3nodding

After yesterday, I have to agree with you, Lime :3 I was a bit oblivious to the fact that BDSM isn't all that uncommon at all. And the people I met...well, honestly, they were just the same as anyone else I might have just met at the bus stop. It makes me wonder how many people that I know are secretly kinks xD
On the productive side, I actually met a few people that I'm going to stay in contact with, including this really, really awesome dom. Me and him actually hung out for a long time after the munch was over.
All in all I had a good time, and as a social event I think it's an awesome thing. No pressure, no judgement, just a bunch of S&M lovers hanging out and eating pizza. I love it. :3

Aww, lucky, I wish my mom was. She can't stand the fact that I'm into BDSM (yeah, she knows all about it. I had to tell her when I went to live with my first 24/7 dom). She thinks it's nasty or something, in the worst way.
To each their own, though. Unfortunately she doesn't seem to get my viewpoint at all >,<

I would LOVE to go to a munch, but the ones that occur right in the neighborhood, so to speak, are 21+. Those bastards. There's also one about half an hour away that would be nice to go to if I find some kinky friends a little closer to home who could take me. I tend to be a little timid in new social situations, but I think it would be nice to get to know some more people in the Scene, particularly those who are more experienced and who I could learn from. And the good thing about a munch is other people might not necessarily have to know about your kinkiness, since it's just in some normal place in street clothes.
But, for those of you who would like to search for munches and other BDSM events in your area, I highly highly highly recommend you join FetLife if you haven't already. You can view kinksters in your area, as well as any groups -- and those often have to do with munches and such. :3

Never been to a munch since closest one is an hour way. Might be interesting to try one out if was one in my hometown, but unfortunately the one occasionally met here disbanded years ago. Some muches sound more informative than others. Maybe someday will be able to visit one.

I'd love to go to a munch, though my boyfriend (Dom) said I could only go if I had people with me (Whether it was him or one of my tough male friends as a safety precaution lol). I'm 21 so I could go whenever I wanted to...so long as I had the money to travel to Manhattan for them x_x;;.

It's definately, if not popular, at least fairly normal. People just don't go right out in the open about it, so you don't see it.
