I'm dragging my mom to see that... oh, tomorrow or the day after. biggrin
I LOVE the musical ('tis my favorite). I've seen it twice (not on Broadway), and it was awesome both times (except Maureen was a little annoying).
I'm scared out of my mind about the movie though. Transferring something that wasn't written for the big screen TO the big screen can turn out seriously bad (take, for example, the Harry Potter books... this last movie wasn't too bad, mainly because they didn't include enough detail for them to ******** up). And they weren't able to get all the original cast, and I heard that Mimi isn't the best. sad

I saw RENT a couple weeks ago. I've wanted to see it on broadway for a long time, but never have crying . I was very happy with how well it was made. I think I going to take my parents to see it this weekend. Happy Thanksgiving all!

Update: I saw it yesterday. It wasn't too bad... nothing compared to the musical as performed on-stage, but it was still good.
The cast... was good. Mostly, that was because it was the original Broadway cast, except for two. I didn't like the re-cast Joann's voice, and the re-cast Mimi was too seductive. She's 19... she's not really supposed to be a seductress.
They cut out a lot of stuff with the homeless people, including the "Honest Living" number. crying
But I liked how they spread the time frame of most of it out over... oh, a week. The two days that they do in the on-stage version feels a bit rushed.
...and I cried when Angel died. It's more dramatic in the movie.

I just saw it today! I was blown away by Collins performance. I also cried when Angel died. I'm kinda glad they cut out Joann and Maureen's thing during Angel's funeral. Collin and Angel were so beautiful together, no matter what the homophobes say!

My friends and I went to see RENT the first day it was out.
I loved it. I love musicals, in general, but this one is my favorite so far.
I loved the lyrics and the melodies and the characters and just everything.
My friends weren't as fond of it, "Too much singing" for one. Another said something about hating all musicals. And the thrid was indifferent, didn't like it, nor love it.
But. I'm the only one that counts. >>;;;

The movie was very good. The stage production was very good. I know every word to every song so... i was singing in the theatre. Not loud enough so people would tell me to shut up, but loud enough that my friend sitting next to me could laugh hysterically. Mimi was OK in some spots her voice sounded exactly like Daphne's and with Johann... all the time her voice sounded like Billi's. Maureen kicks a**. My friend (not the one i saw the movie with) said i looked like her. I told him that that was very sweet, but he's an idiot because she's waaay prettier than me. If there are any theatre techies reading this then i hope you noticed the blackouts between every couple of scenes. They made it like a stage production! Yay!!! If i ever get a chance to ******** Adam Pascal I would do it in a second. I cried when Angel was in the hospital and even harder when he died.

wow, ok you guys gotta here this stare
last week i over heard some guys in my grade talking by their lockers, they were talking about rent being the worst movies ever but i can accept that, its their opinion 3nodding but i listened on and, heh i can tell you, i changed my mind about their "opinion" rolleyes they went on to make the most immature comments about the movie, they were laughing at teh gay guy who dressed like a woman then one guy jumped and sais "i know its the worst movie ever, i mean, they sing, all they do is sing" ugghhh idiots, isn't obvious its a movie musical from the tv trailers and commercial spots??? and plus if you were too embarrassed and to immature to handle the movie then don't go watch it domokun

It was incredible. So incredible that I'm spending my summer savings (I've been saving for five years to do something incredibly fun for my 21st b-day) to go to Broadway and see it performed at Nederlander!

OMG LAIK I TOTALLY LOVE RENT!!! OMGOMGOMG! Yeah that much. Im a theatre nerd, so I watch a lot of musicals, and my best friend is going to be on broadway someday. (Im not joking... He got a role in Catz at the biggest theatre we have in in this state... while he was still in highschool) I really liked the movie, but missed some of the good songs like "Goodbye Love" that unfortuantly didn't make it into the movie. But then again one has to keep in mind that in live theatre you get an intermission. I seem to be the only one in this guild who has this opinion... but I really liked the re-casts. The broadway Mimi... Im sorry to say was a HORRIBLE singer. I'm not familiar with the actress, so it could just be a character voice... but it was a painful one, and Joanne's actress in the movie was an amazing singer! Ugh! It was awesome. I cried the entire second half of the movie <3
