Hiccups raked her body as she laid on the beach sand, brows knitted together. Gods, she hated the hiccups so much. More often than not, they left her chest hurting her and she was always so thirsty after a spell. With a groan, she got up and stretched out, back legs extending behind her to their full length. For a lioness, she was pretty slender given the fact she had five cubs who were now wandering their own with ease.
It had been a while since she'd run into Cit; she'd been to visit him every day, brought him fish like he asked for. Feana tried desperately to not get caught in an affectionate embrace or to dodge his nips to her ears. He seemed to like to tease her like that; cuddling against her, nipping. But she always made an excuse to leave. It was odd, being drawn to him like she was. His voice, his personality, all so different from Kenya's. Of course Feana had made that comparison before. But she couldn't help it. Kenya was, for all intensive purposes, her mate.
She had a feeling the only reason they were together was because of their cubs. They had very little in common, despite their talking, and she felt he was more a friend than a lover or a mate. She loved Kenya, yes, but it didn't feel right to tie him down when she knew he wasn't right for her. Or her for him. They'd be better off as friends.
Walking towards the waves, she looked at the shells that lined the sands and frowned a bit more. Feana wanted to talk to Kenya about this; about how uncomfortable she felt around him sometimes. Yes, she had been attracted to him once, but she'd been in season then. Although that didn't exactly excuse their cubs, it excused a lot of her feelings, it felt. She wanted to protect Kenya more than anything, to make sure he was safe; as if he were one of their cubs.
She'd been so lost in her thought, Feana didn't notice the hiccups had stopped until she stepped on a sharp shell and she cried out, startling her out of the clouds of confusion. Brows knitted together, she looked down and wiggled her toes, the center pad of her left paw was now bleeding because of the stupid shell. "Great. Just great," she muttered, bringing her paw to her muzzle to lick at the cut and blood. If Cit saw her, he'd probably make some smart comment that would get her to swipe at him again.

Naturally, Feana didn't have the luck for her little mistake to have gone unseen. But her luck must have been especially bad today, seeing as, not five feet from her, lay Cit.
The large male was stretched on his belly in the shade of a rocky overhang, pale pink eyes watching the gray-furred female closely. A deep, rumbling chuckle escaped his throat to alert the younger girl to his presence, slowly crossing his paws over each other in front of him, tail twitching out behind him to flick about in his amusement.
" Bi' clumsy t'day, ay Kitten? " He rumbled out as he turned his eyes away from her, refocusing his gaze back on the sea, which he'd been content to watch before Feana had come stumbling along. " C'n 'ardly believe ya manag'd ta take care'a me fer so lon' when ya c'n't e'en walk down th' beach safely. "
A wide smirk stretched over his maw as he finally turned his eyes back to her, pulling himself up out from under the rocky overhang to stretch slowly before padding up to her. " C'mon then. Le'me see... " It was easy enough to pull the small injured paw to him with one of his large ones, beginning to lap at the wound until the bleeding slowed to a stop.
Satisfied that it was no longer openly bleeding, Cit moved away from the female, starting a slow pace to walk along the beach. It was obvious by his pace, and the smirk still on his lips, that he expecting Feana to follow him without him even needing to ask the girl. He knew it would frustrate her, as his dominating nature often did.

When he chuckled, Feana jumped a little bit and glared her blue eyes at him. Snorting softly, she hobbled over to him and the swiped at him. See? Another smart a** comment, just like she said he would. Feana gave him her paw and just kind of stood there as he licked it. It might have taken a bit longer, but it finally stopped. She studied the black and sand colored male. He was as handsome as when she last saw him, that hadn't changed. But he was walking on his own. Which made her feel a lot better.
"You shut your mouth. I'm not perfect. You just assumed," she said with a smirk in her voice and on her muzzle. When he walked away she huffed and glared at him from behind. Stupid big b*****d was making silent demands again. Who did he think he was? She wasn't his mate or servant or whatever. Well, she wished he was her mate. She at least felt connected to him, unlike she did with Kenya.
That thought made her pause a minute, but she quickly followed him, wincing when sand got into the wound. It stung more than hurt; putting pressure on her, like she was walking, didn't really bother her. No, it was the grit of the sand. She'd have to clean it better later. "You staying?"

" Stayin'? " He hummed out thoughtfully, slowing his walk so he was beside her now to nudge against her, letting her take a bit of the pressure off her paw by leaning some of her weight onto him. It was... a surprising nice gesture from the rough male. " If'n by stayin' ya mean ah've tak'n th' rites an' passed, th'n yah. I'm stayin'. "
Pink eyes scanned the area ahead of them until he found something suitable before he lead Feana aside with him to a small alcove in the rocks. It wasn't really a cave. Wasn't really an overhang. More like a little cove. It was damp, but smooth, cool and comfortable. A few easy nudges pretty much forced the female to enter with him as he went along, carefully shoving her down before settling along side her comfortably in the shady area. They still had a nice view of the ocean from here.
" Changes thin's do'sn' it? Th' fact tha' I'm stayin' fer good? " He asked slowly, peering at the sea a moment before looking to the female beside him. " Wha' ya plannin' ta do 'bout th' brat'a yers? Kena? Keni? Th' ells it's name? Dosn't matter... Leavin' it? "
His tone was innocent as he asked her this question... As if he wasn't asking her to leave her mate. As if he wasn't asking her to abandon the male she had four grown children with as if it was nothing. For him. But... Well, the fact was, he WAS technically asking... And that in its self was a shock...

She was silently pleased that he was staying. The big male had a roughness about him that evened out her childishness. But she wasn't pleased with him being all pushy and shoving her around. Still, Feana managed to bite her tongue and leaned into him as they walked. She recognized that he was being nice to her, and far be it from Feana to say anything otherwise.
But when he pushed her down on the damp rock, she glared at him and narrowed light blue eyes. The hell was all this about? Still, it felt better than being in the sun all day. So, she didn't complain, again. Well, for the most part. "You're not gentle are you?" She muttered, using his neck as a pillow for her head.
Then he asked about Kenya and her ears flicked a bit and she diverted her gaze. "Kenya.... And.... yeah. I guess.... leaving him would be best. The cubs are adults now, or think they are and he and I... aren't attached anymore. There's nothing there between us." She was speaking honestly to him, openly and her voice was strained as she talked.
Feana inched away from him as she talked and gave a heavy sigh. "He was the first male to show me attention, then I was in season, and.... .......I made him follow me."

" 's 'bout as gentle as ah get, kitten. Yah wan' a lion 'er ah cub? " He grumbled back, pink eyes narrowing in annoyance at her comment. He didn't much care for the lions who were all carefree and playful and gentle. Useless. They could hardly be called real lions at all in his book, and, really, what kinda lioness would want one of those to begin with? Not the kind he'd be interested in at any rate...
His ears perked in interest at her next words though, her admittance to the dying relationship between her and her supposed mate. Now they were getting somewhere...
Shifting a bit, he pushed his larger body closer to the female, pressing his forehead against hers to peer into her light blue eyes. This was about as affectionate as he was going to get any time soon. " So? Di'ch out... Ya go' sum'in much be'er wai'in fer ya, yeah? An 'es gettin' dam tired ah waitin' kitten... "

She snorted at him and smacked his side as he settled closer to her. Gentle her left paw. "Whatever, Cit. I wasn't being serious anyway. I know you don't have a gentle bone in your giant body." Her tail flicked as she said it and then looked to the side when he took notice of what she said.
Dying relationship? It was already dead. It died a while ago, she imagined. If it was ever alive to begin with. Then Cit pressed their foreheads together and she looked up at him, giving a nod. "I.... he doesn't need me anymore. He's hardly ever around. I bet he wouldn't notice if I... changed to your den." It was all true. Kenya hadn't been around her in what seemed like months. "Don't have to wait anymore..." She pulled back and ran her tongue along his nose before nuzzling it and then shifting. Too damn embarrassing.

His lips quirked into a smirk at the girl's embarrassing actions but he could hardly deny that it pleased him to no end. Feana was beautiful. Energetic, and stubborn. Kind and strong. He could not picture a better mate for himself. And even if he could... This was the one he wanted, simple as that... He nearly groaned at his own weak thoughts but he didn't try to suppress them as he raised his head up to nuzzle at her ears, chuckling softly.
" Grea'.. 's a be' then... Ah' say h' du'n n'tice fer two weeks.. 's yer bet fer? " He spoke teasingly into her ear in his deep tones before resting his head back down against her back, eyes half shutting in though. " Ya really sh'uld... Move in t'night Ana. Stay wit' me. " He said, head lifting back up to peer at her closely again, waiting for her response. No jokes or teases. He honestly wanted her to move in to his den with him. It was more than big enough for them.. More than them, even, if they wanted to start a family but.. One step at a time.

Feana nodded a bit. Moving in tonight would be a good idea. Then she wouldn't sleep by herself. None of her cubs ever came home to sleep next to her, none of them stopped by to see how she was doing. In all honesty, this was one of the best things that had happened to her in a long time, other than having cubs. Ungrateful cubs, she thought bitterly to herself.
"I... give it a week..." Feana said, looking up and nuzzling under Cit's chin. Who cared if she really wanted all this physical comfort? It was so nice having someone to curl up next too now. "Go to sleep. Just... do it. You're getting tired."

Another amused chuckle as he gave a sharp n** at one of her ears, relaxing further into her side. That was another thing that made her perfect... He may be strong and commanding, and very independent but.. She still kept trying to take care of him. And for some reason, he just couldn't stop her from doing so. He lost his family when he was just a cub. The attention was... Nice. Sweet. He could stand it from her.
" Hmph. Fine. " He grumbled out roughly not at all showing that he enjoyed the attention as he buried his face into the female's neck to let his body relax.

The girl snorted as he relaxed and licked at his head, cleaning that damn thick mane of his. Feana would let him sleep as long as he wanted, because it gave her time to think. Think about how different things were because of Cit, because of her cubs becoming adults and everything else that was happening to her. And the fact she now had a little sister from her mother. How strange things were!

One last n**, to her neck this time, before the stubborn male gave in to the tiredness she had correctly seen in him, and he gave in to sleep, drifting off against Feana contently, knowing he would be safe there in this land, in the little cove they had ducked into, even if it wasn't their den. Just a nap, then they could move on to a more appropriate location. With that last thought he was sound asleep against the gray-furred lioness, curled tightly into her warm body.
