Rokopelli was back from one of her many dissapearances. Sometimes she was gone for only a few moments, other times she could be gone for a whole day. But as promised on that fateful day, she always came back, just as she did this time.
And, despite the fact that she was sensing Cassian's anger fading, he still glared at her, covering the fact that he had been worried she wouldn't return.
Now she sat, throwing her mis-matched gaze around the clearing and then sighing dramatically. "Rokopelli has been a great detective!" She declared at random.
Until now she'd not given any hints to the information on the Goddess of Healing that she'd been gathering. Now, however, she felt she had enough to warrant sharing it.
--
Cassian lifted his head, curious and then pulled himself up into a sitting position. He growled, momentarily, shaking his head to rid himself of a torrent of different thoughts emanating from the Goddess. Thoughts about the healing god, the one they were looking for. But they were so fast and so many that he could hear only faded echoes.
"Control yourself!" He snapped. "Let's hear it then."

Illena had been sitting by herself seemingly lost in her thoughts. When Rokopelli spoke to them she snapped to attention. "Ah," she began turning to look at the goddess as well as her companion. She felt a pang of sadness as she looked him before letting out a small sigh. "What did you find out Rokopelli dear?" She inquired. She stood and walked forward, she had to be kind to the girl, she was a confused soul and the slightest bit of anger scared her. And when she was scared she wanted to run away and Illena wasn't about to let that happen.
Not when Cassian needed the help.
"Cassian, please,"

Rokopelli liked Illena. She was a sweet and caring female with a good heart - even as someone as confused as Roko could tell that! It confused her greatly, then, to think why such a huge grump as Cassian would love someone who was his complete opposite.
Illena was nice.
Cassian was...well, she wanted to say mean, but perhaps that was too harsh. After all, perhaps things would have been different if she hadn't gone and messed up.
Giving a mental shrug she turned her glowing eyes to the female, deciding to communicate with her since the male was going to be difficult.
"First. God of Healing is a Goddess. A girl. She's called Ameh." Her tail wagged, dog-like, and she settled more comfortably, feeling pride in herself at having managed to find this all out. "She lives in a land where lions have tattoos. Mountains and...stuff." She trailed, shaking her head a little, distracted by Cassian's irritated thoughts.
"Ela...Ela something." She beamed. "So we go there and we find her and it'll all be okay! Fixed! Back to normal. See? Aren't we clever?"
--
Cassian, growling, came to stand next to Illena, casting his irritated glare at the Goddess. How dare he blank her from the conversation like that? This was his problem!
"Do you even know how to find these Ela lions?" He huffed, curling a lip. He turned his eyes to his pale-pelted companion and shook his head. "Maybe we know enough now to go on ahead without her. She's not much help anyway."

Illena shrunk back away from him when he growled. "Being angry isn't going to help us Cassian..." she mumbled looking down. She sighed and shook her head, no she wasn't going to step back. There was a problem and she was going to help fix it, whether he wanted her help or not.
"Oh! I think I know the lands you're talking about," she commented a smile popping up. She frowned at her companion. "It'll be easier to get information with her, I think we should stick with her for a while longer," she began, "really, I don't think it could hurt."
She looked over at him wondering how he would react, ever since he had tried to fix whatever he claimed was wrong with him he had been so angry. "She comes back every time..."

Rokopelli's ears had drooped but they picked right up again when Illena suggested it'd be better for her to stay. Yes. She definately wanted to see this through to the end.
Drawing closer, she sighed and resettled herself, sitting with her wings half unfurled. "Listen to Illena, Cassie." She chirped. "You pounced us when you saw us. This Ameh might not like it. Best let us do the talking."
She was sure it'd be fine.
"And stop being mean to Illena, else we'll tell her what we know." Her eyes narrowed threateningly.
He looked set to argue but fell silent, setting his jaw and setting his stern gaze on the Goddess. Oh yeah, sure, let her do the talking! She, the one who confused people. That was a GREAT idea.
His thoughts dripped with sarcasm and he aimed them straight at her, in which she retaliated.
Tell Illena? Tell Illena what? His eyes narrowed and he growled. "Stop talking nonsense."

"I know you don't really understand her exactly but," Illena began drawing a circle on the ground with her paw. "I can usually make sense of it, and I don't mean anything bad by this but..." She sighed, why was it so hard to talk to him? She was so scared that he was going to snap at her and tell her to leave because, she wasn't sure she could leave even if it was what he wanted. She knew she loved him but the fear of him rejecting her just hurt so much that she couldn't share it. "I don't want something bad to happen while we're talking to Ameh because you lose your temper," she paused just long enough to shake her head. " and I understand why you're angry but you can't keep letting your anger get the better of you!"

He was growing angry again. Not at Illena. Not at Rokopelli even. He was getting angry at himself, angry by the fact that he was so helpless to do anything. He hated getting help. HATED it. He wanted to be independant. To not rely on anyone. But that was never going to happen and the thought had him reeling with despair.
Without a word he got up and started moving off, but his escape route was blocked.
Rokopelli had landed in front of him, her wings spread as if to barr the way. Her face was uncharacteristically annoyed and her frown only deepened as their thoughts met.
Enough was enough.
~No, Pelli, we shouldn't meddle~ Roko though in her mind, but Pelli was not about to start listening to her other half now.
"We've had enough!" She replied, puffing out her chest, trying to make herself look big despite the fact that he was bigger than her. "You tell Illena the truth right now. The truth about your eyes. The truth about your feelings."
She gritted her teeth, waiting, quite ready to say something if he didn't. She read his thoughts, knew he was trying to think a way out of this situation. Knew, suddenly, that he was a coward afraid of his own feelings and disability. Well then, it was up to her.
"Illena. Cassian's sad because his eyeses don't work like yours and ours. He can't see far at all. It makes him mad. Very mad. That's what he wanted us to fix that day but we made it worse." She paused, not even looking at his face now, knowing the male was trembling with rage.

Illena wasn't entirely sure of what was going on any longer. She just stood helplessly on the sidelines watching with growing panic. Cassian tried to flee and Rokopelli stopped him. She furrowed her brow at the words that were spoke. His eyes and his feelings? What did the goddess mean by that. "Excuse me..." she mumbled meekly ears flattening back against her skull. "I'm a little confused..."
Then Rokopelli explained it to her, well part of it and she got this sudden look of realization. The last piece in the puzzle had been found. So that was why he had wanted her to go down first when they had reached the ocean, why he always had her hunt. Not that she minded either of those times. "I...I don't understand..." she sighed. "Why didn't you tell me?"
She couldn't help the tears that started to gather

Cassian listened on in horror. No. Nononono! NO! This stupid Goddess was not just sharing his most feared and terrible secret? It was alright for her. She was a Goddess with powers - stupid ones, yes, but powers nonetheless! What was she doing sticking her nose into his business?! How DARE she?!
And then he heard Illena's voice, her sigh, and he turned back. She was not close enough for him to see the tears, but her eyes held a gleam they never usually did.
"I couldn't." He choked. "I was...ashamed." He hung his head, the stark contrasting black mane banding his white face. Now she knew. He was a useless male. A useless lion. How could he protect her or provide for her when he couldn't see much further than a few steps in front of him.
Rokopelli shifted from one paw to the other, watching them. She hadn't meant to make him sad. She thought he'd be happy that his secret was finally out. It seemed their mental connection didn't show her everything.
Her ears drooped again and she folded her wings to her tight, narrow sides.
The sound of their voices could have made her weep.

Illeana shook her head, a few tears flying off her face, as she stepped toward him. She still didn't understand it, so what if he couldn't see very well, he was still him. He was still Cassian, didn't he know that was the only thing that mattered to her. "Why? Why were you ashamed of telling me?" She asked him stepping even closer. Now that she knew some of the truth, well she needed answers. "It wouldn't have changed anything."
Well maybe in the begining it would've complicated their delicate relationship, she had been such a scaredy lion but now, she was so much better. Because of him, because he stood by her. "It wouldn't have changed how I feel..."

"Because." He blurted, clearly finding this whole thing a great ordeal. "Because I can't do for you what another male could. I can't protect you from danger because I won't see it coming. I can't fight well enough to keep you safe out here."
His tail thrashed and he shook his head. "I used you, Illena. I used you to gain my freedom. Without you I'd still be back with my family. You should just go." He gritted his teeth together and with a sound of suppressed pain, turned and fled.
Rokopelli sprang to her paws but too late. She could have stopped him with her mind, of course, but perhaps they needed this. They needed to be alone to sort this through.
But first, some encouragement.
"Go after him, Illena." She murmered sadly. "He loves you."

"So what?" She exclaimed trying to take charge for what could've been the first time in her life. She always stepped back, especially if she was in the way of someone else getting what they wanted. If she did that today, if she just left things how they were and left him, giving him what he said he wanted, then she'd lose everything she wanted. And she wasn't willing to do that. She wasn't willing to lose him.
She started after him as he ran only to stop split second to offer the goddess a small smile. "Thank you."
Then she was off chasing after him. "Cassian! Stop!"

He didn't want to stop. He just wanted to keep running. Running and running until he was all alone where no one could find him. Where no one could look down at him and taunt him for being inadequate.
His heart gave a terrible twist as he realised what he was doing. He was running from the only person he had ever cared about.
And why?
Why?
And then he tripped.
Who knows what would have happened if he hadn't tripped. Maybe he would have kept running. Maybe he would have turned back. Either way, he landed on his stomach, crying out in frustration. It would always be like this. Always.
And then he stood and turned half-way.
"I've stopped." He replied, lifting his pale eyes to see if Illena had actually followed him this far.

She wasn't focused on anything but catching him. He had a lead on her and she wasn't sure she'd be able to catch up with him but she was sure as hell going to try and catch him. When he fell she didn't realize it at first, she thought he was slowing or something similar and when he cried out it registered in her mind and she gasped. "Cassian!"
She hurried over to his side to see if he was hurt but then she too tripped and fell. Right on to him. "Are you okay?" She asked peering at his face. "You can't run away from me."

The impact of Illena crashing into him, flattened him back to the earth, holding him there in place. Sure, he could shove her off of him but...he didn't want to do that. He never wanted to hurt her.
"No. I'm not okay." He replied. "Everything is ruined. She's ruined everything. You weren't supposed to find out." He closed his eyes, pained by the memory of his secrets being revealed.
"I did a bad thing." More than just one, but, well...it was all linked.
