The night of the Midwinter Festival, Atka left her homeland. It was the longest night of the year, and Atka's last chance to see her family all together before leaving. After an evening of of heartfelt goodbyes, Atka left the shores of Hokkaido. Her parents understood her desire to travel and learn more about the world, but it was custom that once a member of their nobel family left their divine homeland, they were forever dead to the family. Atka was exiled from here on out. Her family lived, for generations, for the sole motive of protecting Hokkadio from demons. Leaving Hokkadio meant disgracing their motherland and their family.
The journey between Hokkaido and Honshu was long and treacherous, which is why Atka picked the longest, coolest night of the season to cross the frozen body of water. She bounded off the shores of her beloved wintery land, and took long cantering strides towards Honshu. The sky was cloudless. The moon was high and stars were reflecting off the ice- she could already see the short mountain tops of the unexplored land.
After months of traversing, Atka made it to the southern slope of the mountain side. She was now closer to the season of thawing, and further south. Warily making her way towards the base of the mountain and a welcoming green valley, Atka looked to the heavens and saw rain falling towards her. The storm thundered directly over her, trapped by the mountain peeks. It poured down on the valley, and pounded at the side of hill. Atka moved cautiously. It didn't take long for her front feet to slip out in front of her. The small amount of grass her paws were using for traction flew past her on a wave of rain runoff. Atka whipped her head around to see her hind legs get pulled under a layer of mud. The wave of rain and dirt spun her and pushed her on her side. Thin trees and bushes were ripped up from their roots. Atka clambered over a piece of soaked bark, and held on as best she could. The rain continued, but soon the rapids slowed down. Atka was now buried in dense mud, with only her neck and right arm exposed.

A deep, frustrated growl errupted from the throat of Yasuragi as he struggled through the deep mud of the mountain trail that would typically take only minutes for him to run down. He had come up the steep path several times before when things were on his mind and he needed to find comfort, and had expected to find that tonight. He had been thinking about his younger sister again, and that always brought up an unhappy feeling. Unfortunately, his simple adventure routine had been thwarted by a storm that he hadn't been aware of earlier in the day. Yasuragi continued his trek, slowly making his way toward a valley near the base of the mountain. Pulling his feet out of the mud that threatened to trap him, he leapt onto the trunk of a tree that had fallen on its side after being uprooted to get a better view.
Yasuragi scowled and shook his head to get water out of his eyes; the pelting rain was still coming down hard and making traveling dangerous. It was from his position on the tree that he realized the power of the storm had caused a mudslide. It looked like a chunk of the road he was taking had depressed and fallen off the mountain, which sucked big time. 'Great, I can't go this way anymore' he thought, before climbing off of the tree. Yikes! His footing wasn't sound as his paws made contact with the slick ground, and Yasuragi slipped off of the path.
Down the trail of mud and debris that had just covered Atka he slid, a pained whine could be heard as he hit his left shoulder roughly against a protruding rock. Gods, he knew that was going to hurt in the morning. After coming to a halt as he lay on his side, Yasuragi looked around, trying to figure out how far he had fallen when he spotted something else sticking out from the mud. He supposed it could be another rock or a bush, but why did it look strangely like another kuniku's head..? "Tch." He uttered in disbelief. Hopefully he hadn't banged his head on something on the way down; the last thing he needed was hallucinations in this kind of weather.

(My first post was really long because it was also kind of for my journal, lol. The rest probably won't be that thorough.)
Atka pushed the at the ground with her right paw. She couldn't find any traction, the mud just kept slipping away from her. She growled and tried to wiggle a few more inches out of the suffocating cocoon. The mud had put her in a position as if she were lying on her back, but was putting so much pressure on her, Atka's toes were numb. She couldn't move her leg.
The Kuniku yelped and tossed her head, searching for help. A grey and white Kuniku had little contrast against the rainy day, it was his shimmering purple eyes that caught Atka's attention. She opened her mouth to yelp towards him, the continued to wiggle her abdomen.

(No problem, bii. I just heart Yasu so I wanted to write a lot for him. x3)
The sound of Atka's yelp was just audible to Yasuragi through the havy falling rain. It took him a moment to realize that the sound had come from something alive. 'Hn. Looks like I'm not going crazy...' Yasu thought, before carefully pulling himself upright onto his feet. He took a step toward Atka, but stopped and winced as a wave of pain pulsed through his left shoulder. "Not good..." He muttered to himself, but then continued his slow trek toward the dark shape. He wasn't sure if the yelp had come from another Kuniku or a dog, but either way, he would at least go investigate its source. He just hoped that he wouldn't get trapped in the mud because of his curiosity, when perhaps his main priority should have been to find shelter from the storm.

As Yasu started to move in her direction, Atka pushed higher and louder pitched yips out form the back of her throat. Her lungs expanded, "YAP YAP!" The mud coated dog was embarrassed to be lacking so much in independence at this point in time, but having pride wouldn't do her too much if she was dead.
"YAP! YAP!" A wave of dirty water broke free and hurled at Atka's face. Her chin smacked against the ground and sent her mind into a dizzy tumble. She never should have left home, Atka knew that now, in her late hour.
Doplets fell on to her cheeks and streamed over her eyelids. A howl erupted from her spit lips. A blurred vision took over, and Atka fell unconscious.

Yasu growled in frustration when a wave of water crashed into him, nearly knocking him over and onto his side. It took a lot of effort for him to get his paws out of the yucky mess, but he continued his way toward Atka. The sound of her yapping drove him forward.
"Hang on! I'm coming!" He barked, unaware that Atka was unconcious.
Yasuragi struggled, but was able to pick up his pace when Atka howled just before passing out. When he finally got close, he realized that the second victim of the mudslide was in fact, another kuniku. Yasu cursed when she showed no response to him getting up close, but began trying to dig her out anyway. She may be a total stranger, but there was no way he was going to leave her for dead. He started digging around her side in hopes of freeing her other arm first. The progress was slow because the mud kept sloshing into place, but little by little, Atka was getting out of the muck.

The silty muck slid around the Kuniku in treacherous ripples. The entire side of the mountain looked as those it was moving in a slow crawl. Atka's limp neck continued to let her chin smack into the pile of mud forming around her. Her chest was now free though, and although unconscious, larger amounts of oxygen we able to fill her lungs.
In her weary daze, Atka dreamed of her snowy homeland. The cold dirt around her was really a fluffy, chilly cocoon of snow, cradling the pup during her daily romp. Puppy Atka burrowed deep into the snow bank and woofed at her nearby litter mates. Then a hard clump of snow fell from the tree tops above them and with a soft pound, and hit Atka in the head.
She opened her eyes, and found herself back in the sinking mud of Honshu. Cold pellets rained down and slid over her eyelids. Atka took a refreshing breath and saw Yasu, boldly digging her out. She whipped her head around, searching for her body parts, then started to dig towards her back legs. She barked in frustration and poured energy into her tail, whipping it back and forth under the mud, wriggling itself free. Atka jerked upward once more and launched herself out of the muddy trench.

Amethyst eyes widened in surprise when Atka finally awoke, but quickly squinted to keep the rain out again. Yasuragi grabbed her by the scruff of the neck to tug her as she made her way out of the lethal mud. He let go and then glanced at her to check and see if she was injured, but realized that probably much wasn't wrong other than stiff joints. He opened his maw to speak, but quickly shut it.
Somehow, Yasuragi didn't know what to say to Atka as he looked her in the eyes. He wasn't going to ask her if she was okay because that would be stupid, but there was no point to asking her what she had been doing before getting caught by the mudslide either. He frowned at her; this was the trouble with getting involved with strangers, but especially with females. Once Yasuragi started thinking, he just drew a blank.
"I don't know about you, but I'm getting out of here." He muttered, before turning to walk away from Atka. His ears lay back against his skull as he slowly hobbled down the hillside that would take him to the forest, his original destination, but his shoulder was killing him. He could almost feel the tendons ripping in agony with every step he took, but it was his pride that kept him from whining in pain.

(Not nearly as good as the first time I typed it up. gonk lol) Atka shook the last bit of mud from her ear, enabling her to think clearly once more. That grey Kuniku had surely saved her, only Atka's arrogance would keep her from seeing that. He had helped her though, gone out of his way and put himself in danger. It was a very nobel thing to do. She pulled her ankles and paws out of the mud and bounded after him.
Not exactly anxious to start a conversation with a stranger, Atka waited a moment before speaking. He had helped her, and he seemed bold, brave, maybe even trustworthy, but something about him seemed almost... brute? Atka spoke up. "I was taught to always be mindful to those who have you in mind." She carried her head and straightened her shoulders, painfully trying to hide the aches in her muscles- left from being buried in mud. "So thank you, warrior, for helping me out back there." She relaxed a little bit and said softly, "it was selfless."
