Just asking everyone if they read other Holy Books.
For example, i have read the Bible and am currently almost done with the Qur'an. Out of curiousity i have also read the Satanic Bible (LaVeyan Satanism) but...I dont really consider that a religion since it doesnt have a diety except oneself. I would also like to read the Torah, but i heard if you read the Old Testament of the Bible it's like reading the Torah, is this true???

Which ones have you read?
Do you believe it is good to be knowledgeable about scriptures other than your own?

I've read the Bible and plan on reading the Qur'an too once I can find a decently priced copy. And of course I've read the Poetic and Prose Eddas of my own faith wink . Oh! And I want to read the Annals as well.

And yes, I do believe it is good to have at least a tiny bit of knowledge about holy texts other than your own. Makes for some interesting discussion 3nodding .

I definitely think it helps to learn about different religions. I own a copy of the Bhagavad Gita and it's quite beautiful to read, very insightful in ways. I would like to read the Qur'an next. biggrin

You can obtain a free Qur'an at this site: http://www.freequran.com/html/front.htm

I've read some of the Bible and most of the Torah. (I didn't find much difference between it and the Old Testiment) I also read the Prose Edda and other Pagan literature. I believe that it is very important to at least try to understand other faiths. What better way, than to read their literature. 3nodding

I tried ordering the Qur'an from that site before and I got an email saying there was a failure to process request or somesuch sad

Paganism is an umbrella term; it refers to a vast body of faiths that have very little to nothing in common save for the fact that they do not worship YHVH/Allah/God. So there isn't one singular holy text for all of Paganism. Rather, there are collections of myths and lore for each culture and pantheon. The Poetic Eddas and Prose Eddas are the main collections of myth and lore for the Nordic gods, Irish-Celts have The Annals, Greeks (Hellenic) have the Homeric Hymns, Hesiod, and a few other books I can't quite recall off the top of my head.

Hooray for Eclectic Pagans biggrin
Putting together your own path from parts of here and there is really hard. I'm usually quite impressed when someone can do that and stick with it for an extended period of time.

The Tao Te Ching is my favourite religious scripture so far.
I've also some substantial reading on the Bahá'í faith, since their documentation didn't have to be purchased.

so the Torah and Old Testament realy are about the same? i had heard that they are, but saw alot of clues in my studies of Mythologies that pointed to the idea that alot of the Torah is left out in the Old Testament of the Bible.... i had told myself that i will eventually get origional Hebrew and Greek Bible and Torah translated directly to english so i could cross-examine.

Great idea! I hope someday to do the same. One of the reasons I'm studying Arabic is so that I could get the original message of the Qur'an.

Don't get the wrong idea, but it is common for the Qu'Ran to get held up at customs nowadays. Especially if it is sent by itself and not as a part pf a collection of religious volumes.
It seems paranoid, but I do understand that it makes the uneducated feel safer. And when they feel safer, they vote. And when they vote, people get re-elected. And people really like getting re-elected.

On a side note, l've gotten very random things held up at customs. Things like a telescope and a clear airsoft pistol. It seems they consider every cylindrical object as a hazard. neutral
