what is the difference between
한국 and 대한민국?

also how would you say 'have'
as in 'Schools have students' or something like that

They are sort of like Britain and United Kingdom =]

'Schools have students' would be 학교는 학생들을 보유하고있다.
~고있다 implies something happening continuously. 보유하다 means 'have' mostly used to say a group, company, committee, etc has something (mostly soldiers, students, officers, etc) - like 'Korean government has a secret troop' or 'This cram school has only five students', etc XP

FYI, 가지다 is never used in this case - it implies that the object is a property.

Koreans typically don't have "middle names" per se, but they can have extended given names.
