It's ok. It's great that you were able to make it.

So how was your week?
PostPosted: Sun Aug 16, 2009 5:14 pm

Um...interesting.

I registered for classes on Tuesday, and I've been trying to get a bunch of projects done before next Monday so I won't have to worry about them during school.

Oh, but I did get the first volume of video recordings of Hugh Nibley's 1989-1990 honors Book of Mormon class on DVD, so I'm totally looking forward to watching those later today.

I'm sure you'll do great. Driving is tons of fun once you get used to it.

So what's the lesson on today?

I was thinking missionary work.... but we hear about missionary work alot, and I'm pretty sure that I've done a couple of lessons on missionary work allready. so all i'm going to say about that today is that you should always be prepared and possibly keep a couple of pass along cards on you at all times.

so instead of missionary work I was thinking of doing developing our talents.

but I can go do either lesson, you can tell me which you would prefer.

You know, I'm kind of glad you brought up the talent thing. That's something I've been struggling with lately. Why don't we go with that.

All righty then, talent it is.

ok so first of all, list a couple of talents that you have.

I'll go first, I dance, and I'm a leader, and I am good at helping others.

Well, let's see...

I guess I draw fairly decently (although I still have a lot to learn).

I'm responsible, competent, and trustworthy--you can count on me to get a job done and get it done right.

I'm loyal to the cause of truth, through and through. I'll fight on the Lord's side no matter what comes, and I'm not afraid to die for what I believe in.

Those are some great talents, each of them are something you can continually improve on. Though, I wouldn't recommend working on them all at the same time, I would recommend just working on one at a time.

In Doctrine and Covenants 88:33 it says:
"For what doth it profit a man if a gift is bestowed upon him, and he receive not the gift? Behold, he rejoices not in that which is given unto him, neither rejoices in him who is the giver of the gift."

Now what do you think that this verse means?
PostPosted: Sun Aug 16, 2009 5:49 pm

It means we have to appreciate the talents that God has given us. They're for our own benefit and enjoyment, and it makes God happy when we appreciate the talent and give thanks to Him for it.

Yup, and he wants to see us use and develop our talents and not be afraid to show our talents as it is said in Mathew 5: 16
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

this verse can mean many things, but you should show your talents (your faith in Jesus Christ, I consider that similar to a talent because as with talents, you have to work on you faith and it is similar methods) and don't be afraid to show what you've got.

Now, Why should we work at and improve our talents?
PostPosted: Sun Aug 16, 2009 5:58 pm

Because God has given them to us to help build up the kingdom, and if we're inadequate, we won't be able to contribute.

Yup, and a very good example from the scriptures would be of the parable of the talents in Matthew 25: 14- 30 where 3 men were given talents and then the first 2 doubled the number of talents that they were given and they were blessed and made ruler over many things, and the third man hid the talent and did nothing and everything was taken away from him. We should strive to be like the 2 that had worked and doubled their talents.

So what do you think are some steps in which we can develop our talents by? (there are 6, just name what you can think of)
