I dunno if this is where it goes, but I REALLY need RPing help. There is no one in my RP who *to my knowledge* plays Snape. I have never done it before and I am DEAD scared of botching the character. Does anyone have a tip or two? How do I prevent my own personality from leaking in?

Why are you worried? It's only a game, no ones going to start moaning at you because thats not exactly like the character and if they do then they really need to lighten up

*comes to the rescue*
As a Snape player, I can give you this advice:
-Relax. Playing Snape (or any character for that matter) should be fun for you, not work. -Re-read/view the source material. Sometimes, simply looking over a passage is enough to get creative juices flowing, and it is a good way to make a comparison to your own work. If you do not have the books or movies available to you at the moment, the Harry Potter Lexicon is a lifesaver for those little facts and consistency. Many entries have page numbers so you can directly look up the source. -As an addition to the above, you can use canon actions to help you dictate RP actions. For example, Snape was blasting rose bushes at the Yule Ball. He was frustrated, and part of that may have been a release. If circumstances in your RP are similar, destroying things is an okay action for him to do. -Re-read your posts before you post them. This will not only allow you to check for spelling/grammar, but it may help you catch anything that Snape might not do. -Remember that Snape is not you. He does not read fashion magazines, listen to MCR, or do whatever it is you fancy. You also have to keep in mind things like his double-agent role, and avoid doing things that might compromise that position. He is also usually calm and reserved, so yelling needs to be reserved for the most extreme situations. Etc. -Practice, practice, practice. It takes time to be able to ease in and out of character.
I hope that was helpful.
