5/5
I am a fan of Miyazaki's films, so when I was invited to go see this movie, I could not turn down the offer.
I was actually quite pleased with how this movie came out.. at first I was like "oh no, Disney got a hold of it, what the hell did they do to it" but as far as I could see, the only hold Disney had on the movie was the voice acting.
The story is about a young boy named Sosuke, who finds a fish (although clearly Ponyo, who really cares) trapped in a bottle near his house. He rescues the fish, names it Ponyo, and grows a bond with it. When Ponyo is snatched back to the sea by a Wizard that is her father, she strives to be a human. Bottom line -- magic happens, oceans go haphazardly, moons go all majora's mask, acid trips ensue, all to be expected from a Miyazaki film.
If you're at all familiar with any of Miyazaki's previous films, this movie runs more along the lines of highly kid friendly, such as Panda Go Panda, not like Princess Mononoke, which is much more violent.
Surprisingly, even though this movie is primarily a children's film, it is highly entertaining and even I found myself engrossed in the story. If you have young siblings or sons or daughters or nephews I would highly recommend seeing it with them, I am almost certain they would enjoy it.
After all, I enjoyed it.. and I like metal.
