I've been writing stories based on the oh so amazing show that is Supernatural, but this is the first time I have really let people publicly read it. This story, however, currently only includes one of the actual characters from the show: the angel, Castiel. While Dean has always and will always be my favorite, and my other Supernatural stories (that I may or may not post on here) include Sam and Dean, I felt the need to write something about Castiel. So here's the first chapter so far. In my opinion it's okay, and it probably needs some work, so please, let me know how it is. Thank you and enjoy the story smile It's currently untitled so if anyone has any suggestions, that would be great!

Castiel observed the young woman closely, distinct curiosity in his eyes. He looked at her bright green eyes, fair skin, and the way her long, curly brown hair fell about her shoulders. She didn’t seem to notice his presence; she was too preoccupied with the gun in front of her, loading it with rock salt. He squinted his eyes to read the lettering on her t-shirt. Guns ‘N Roses? Hm. That’s interesting.

She couldn’t help but feel that she wasn’t alone in the room. She quickly looked up, jumping to her feet. When she did, she heard the faint fluttering of wings, and then complete silence. The only window in the room, dusty and discolored, was closed; otherwise she would have taken the sound as a bird outside. She raised a brow, examining the room many times, but failed to find the source of the noise. She decided that maybe it was the lack of sleep making her hear things, so she put the gun aside and crawled underneath the covers of her bed. She reached her arm over to shut off the lamp, darkness flooding the small room.

The angel reappeared. His superior’s direct orders were to stay with her and protect her from any harm, whatever that may be, and if that meant staring at her in pitch black night, so be it. He wasn’t sure why he was asked to do this, and what the importance of keeping this single woman alive was, but orders are orders, and it wasn’t his place to question it. Morning quickly came, and he watched her wake up. She sat up, stretching, yawning. She rubbed her hands under her tired eyes, removing a bit of leftover eyeliner from the day before, and then she looked up to see the handsome dark haired man sitting in a chair on the opposite side of the room. She immediately grabbed her gun on the bedside counter. Shoot first, ask questions later. The old saying popped into her head and she did exactly that. The weapon had no effect on him. He didn’t even blink. She scrambled for the knife under her pillow, but Castiel stopped her.

“It won’t work, Dawn,” He told her. “You cannot harm me”

The young brunette looked taken aback. “How do you know my name? Are you some kind of demon? Or am I just having some trippy, vivid dream?”

Castiel finally stood up from the chair. “My name is Castiel. I am an angel, and I have been sent here to protect you,” He said straightforwardly.

Dawn gaped at him, and then burst into laughter. “You… you’re… you’re kidding me right?” She stopped and then glanced around the room anxiously. “Am I being Punk’d? Where are the hidden cameras?”

Castiel looked bewildered. “I-I don’t understand what you mean, but no, I am not kidding you.”

Dawn stared at him for moments on end, as he said nothing, did nothing, but stand there. The silence was making her uncomfortable. “Protect me from what? I don‘t need you or anyone else to protect me, I‘m good at my job.”

“I do not doubt your abilities, I am simply here because I have been ordered too. I am sorry if that is an inconvenience to you,” He replied.

His whole manner of speaking, everything about him, it baffled her. She had never met anyone like him. “You’re awfully serious, aren’t you?” She sighed and then got up and sat on the edge of the bed facing him. “So, you’re really an… angel?” She finished, still in disbelief. The whole concept puzzled her. Frightened her, even. “No way. I’m going to need a little more proof than you knowing my name and being invulnerable to rock salt and knives that kill demons, so if you’re not a demon, then what are you? And don’t say an angel.”

Castiel’s patience seemed to be wearing thin. His blank expression turned into a furrowed brow and a slight frown. “Fine,” He huffed, and then suddenly, the room grew darker. She looked up at the wall and saw the shadow of two large, black wings. They fluttered for a moment, and then disappeared, the light returning to the room. Dawn’s eyes widened. “Now, if that isn’t enough proof for you, I’m sorry, you will have to believe me, whether you like it or not.” He said, unsympathetically. He turned away. “I have to follow my orders, and that is to protect you from anything that may harm you. Just… Just pretend I’m not here.”

“Pretend there’s not an angel in my motel room that is going to follow me around for who knows how long? Yeah, sorry, a little too late for that. I think it would have been better on your part if you just stayed quiet and unnoticed, and protected me that way. You know, like a psychotic ex-boyfriend stalker,“ She said, sarcasm dripping from her voice. “Wait… was that you in my room last night?”

Castiel, who was still standing, looked back at her and nodded. “Yes.”

She scoffed. “Well, things were going so good then, in a creepy kind of way. When I had no idea who you were, that you were even there, and you were able to spy on me without me even knowing. It’s every boy’s dream.”

Castiel did not seem to understand her humor, either that, or he just ignored it completely, as if he was familiar with someone who too used that sarcasm. “ My first orders were to stay undetected from you. Get to know as much as I could about you before I confronted you, if I did confront you. Unlike most times, however, I was given a choice; I could have kept myself secret from you, or explain to you what I was here for. Whichever one I felt would be the safest decision, a choice that could benefit our side later on. I decided to tell you, because I thought that might make things easier.”

Dawn stared at him for a moment before standing up and pacing around the room. “This is… way too early for this. Let me… let me go take a quick shower and we’ll go get some coffee or something… you do drink coffee, right?” She asked, her voice on the edge of jumpiness.

Castiel shook his head, looking down at his tan colored trench coat and the rest of his attire. “This is merely a vessel. I do not have any of the needs that humans do.”

For the third time that morning, Dawn gaped at him. “Alrighty then,” She said, flabbergasted, and the turned her back to him and went into the bathroom, closing the door behind her.

Castiel was standing by the window when Dawn returned. He had the curtains pulled back a bit, and was looking out onto the hotel parking lot. When he was aware of her presence, which seemed to be instantly, however, he let the curtains fall back in their place and he looked up at her. She was wearing something different this time, a white tank top underneath a tan colored jacket, and jeans. Her curly hair was still a bit stringy and wet, but not dripping, from the shower. “I don’t own a hair dryer,” She confessed, a bit blushingly. She rolled her eyes at his blank expression and then grabbed her keys. She picked up the duffle bag that contained some of her personal belongings, and threw the strap over her shoulder. It was almost check out time, anyway, and she didn’t feel like paying for another night here.

Unlike most hunters, who were pretty much broke, penniless, in the red, whatever you want to call it, and had to get by using fake credit cards, Dawn had an inheritance, and a lot of it. Her family was very wealthy… when they were alive, that is. She had to make the most of what money she had, though; it wouldn’t last forever. She started out the door, and Castiel followed. After she dropped off her key, they walked across the parking lot to the very end where her car was parked, and she tossed her bag in the trunk with the rest of her belongings and weaponry. When she was seated in the car, she glanced beside her to find Castiel already sitting in the passenger seat. His brows were furrowed and he was frowning… that seemed to be his typical expression. He looked up at her when she was in the car, but said nothing, and then turned his head to stare out the window as she put the car in drive and pulled out of the motel parking lot.

Dawn stopped at a cozy little diner a few miles down the road, and Castiel followed her inside. They found a table near the back and sat down. After a few minutes, a short, pudgy older woman wearing an apron approached their table, a small tablet of paper in one hand, a pen in the other. “What can I get you two?” She asked them, eyeing Castiel for a moment, who seemed to be watching Dawn very meticulously.

She looked at the menu for a moment. “I’ll have… a large coffee, and… two pancakes, extra syrup.” She handed the menu to the woman. “He… isn’t eating,” She said, glancing over at Castiel.

The waitress nodded and walked away from the table. Dawn sat there quietly until she returned with her food. She was too tired to even fake a smile so she muttered a quiet thank you to the waitress, and started in on her food. After a few moments, she looked up. She had almost forgotten Castiel was there; he had been very quiet.

“So… why don’t you tell me a little more about the you protecting me crap. What’s that all about? Why now? Where were you angels a year ago, when I almost got killed by that shape shifter? Or two months ago, when that wendigo tried to make me it’s dinner?” She asked him, arching a brow as she sipped at her coffee. “Why is keeping me alive now so important?”

“My superiors have only told me that first and foremost I must protect you from anything that may endanger you. I do not question their motives. I have only guessed that there is some importance in keeping you alive. That you are meant for something… special.”

Her eyebrows remained raised even after Castiel had finished speaking. “Special? What the… what does that even mean?”

Castiel said nothing.

Dawn was growing impatient. She rolled her eyes and finished her meal. When they left the diner, Dawn walked back out to the parking lot and leaned against the side of her car. “So, how does this work, huh? You follow me around for a while, constantly get in my way just to make sure I’m not in any danger?” She asked, crossing her arms across her chest.

“Pretty much,” He replied.

Dawn rolled her eyes. “Wonderful.”
