Evoken is a death/funeral doom band formed in 1994 and hailing from...New Jersey, of all places. surprised A place not quite at the top of my list when thinking of underground metal bands--but I digress. Evoken are about as good an example of this genre as one can find--molasses-slow tempo songs, riffs so monolithic and crushing you'd swear you're in the middle of a collapsing tomb, inhuman (often incomprehensible) death growls, and great atmosphere.

You can't go wrong with the "Quietus" or "Antithesis of Light" albums. Both are gems.
