Here is all of the information that you need to know to play the game well and within all of the rules. Make sure you read up on the rules and check back often for changes. Everything else here is additional info on how to play the game and what the roles are all about. But remember, if you have any questions about the current game, please send a PM to your Game Moderator. If you have any more questions, feel free to post them here!

[Role Explanation]

Game Moderator
If you are looking for the rules for moderating a game, please refer to this post in The Captain's Manifesto.

Sniper Gamer
This is the role that everyone has. It is comparable to the Mafia Game's Villager or Citizen roles. Everyone is considered to be a SGer, and everyone wants to convince everyone else they're a SGer. Easy, right? Right. Now. Here's the fun part. Everyone gets to post here who they believe is the Sniper/Angry Librarian. Everyone can cast suspicion upon others. And you can even ally yourself with others and betray them if that is your wish.

You may not have the Sniper/CK/NR/GTer roles, but you can still make loads of fun out of this game.

Sniper/Crazy Killer
There are unknown roles that I will give at random. The first of these is the Sniper. The sniper will be selected at random by me and will be notified of her/his role at the beginning of the game.

The Sniper gets to PM me each round with someone they wish to shoot. The person they shoot is out of the game and no longer allowed to vote for the game, but don't worry! Even if you're dead you can still post. Getting back to the Sniper; The Sniper absolutely wants to divert attention away from himself or herself. He or she wants to be looked at as a SGer, because once he or she has been found out and sent to jail, the SGers win!

However, the sniper is not alone this game. The Crazy Killer is a role that serves the same exact purpose as the Sniper and will be selected and notified about her/his role just like the Sniper. This adds another level of depth to the game, as the Crazy Killer does not know who the Sniper is, and the Sniper does not know who the Crazy Killer is. The Sniper could end up killing the Crazy Killer and the Crazy Killer could end up killing the Sniper.

This character could also increase the chances of the Sniper/Crazy Killer winning, as opposed to the GCDers. With one killing character and 99 non killers, it's just a little difficult.

But there is one other thing these Roles have to do each round. Aside from PMing me who they wish to kill for that round, they have to send me a clue for the News Reporter. Continued in the next section...

The News Reporters
The the next unknown role is the News Reporter. The News Reporters will be selected at random by the GM and will be notified of their role at the beginning of the game.

There are two News Reporters this game and each of them will receive a PM from with clue from one of the killers each round. That means the killers have to create and PM one clue about their Gaia selves to the GM. I will judge whether or not the clue is appropriate. It must set them apart from at LEAST one other person in the game. The hint can be as easy as "I'm a girl," "My name is/starts with ...," "I am not [username]," or as hard as "The last thread I made had this word in it." (The word would have to be somewhat uncommon.) Then the Newsreporter tries to figure out who's who by the clues given.

Each News Reporter only gets ONE clue per round about one of the killers. Each News Reporter will be notified which killer they will be receiving clues on at the beginning of the game. The trick is finding out how to get the information to the SGers without giving your identity away to the killers.

The G-Team
The G-Team members will be selected at random by the GM and will be notified of their role at the beginning of the game. The G-Team members are allowed to PM me to protect one person from the Sniper that round. Whomever they protect will be immune from the Sniper and the CK for that round.

One other thing to know about the G-Team, they will not be notified of who each other are. But that shouldn't stop them from trying to find each other, or the Authors, or the Killers, or whatever.

There will be three (3) G-Teamers. G-Teamers will not be allowed to protect themselves, but they can protect each other.

-All roles are subject to change from game to game depending on the GM, but this is the basic framework all games are based off of. All changes to the original game must be outlined by GMs in their applications and at the beginning of their game.

[Game Rules]

1. HAVE FUN!
2. Follow GAIA’s TOS, Rules & Guidelines, and the GGN Rules.
............Violation: Banned without warning.
3. No Harassment, Flaming, or making comments you KNOW will hurt/insult someone. This includes being rude and/or nasty towards another member. PM’s included. Insults and the like are fine as long as they’re in jest, pertain to the game, and NO ONE is hurt by it. Harassment that takes place solely in pm's cannot be dealt with by crew; this needs to be taken up with a Gaia Moderator. The crew's formal position is to moderate the guild only.
............Violation: Handled on a case-by-case-basis. We CAN and WILL contact GAIA moderators if the situation calls for it.
4. Anyone can post in the guild, speculate, and hang out, but only participants of the current game who are not dead or jailed may vote in the day’s voting thread. Once you have been killed, jailed, or otherwise incapacitated in the game, you CANNOT vote. You may continue to post, speculate and point fingers, but nothing else.
............Violation: an informal warning will be issued for first offense. Repeated attempts for voting while not active in the current game will get you a full warning.
5. The Game Master will not wait for everyone to vote. At the voting deadline, he/she will lock the thread and move on to the next round. Anyone who does not have their vote or has voted with an incorrect number will receive an inactivity. Those with roles who have not sent in their information will have kills and saves randomly generated for them.

6. You may NOT have more than one account participating in a single game.
............Violation: Removal of BOTH accounts from the current game, a guild warning, and a ban from playing in the next game.
7. If you feel you are incapable of making a decent decision on who to vote for, do not have time to vote, etc. you may use a PASS. HOWEVER, you may not PASS more than THREE times in a single game. The point of the game is to FORCE you to vote. If you exceed your three passes, they will count as inactivities towards your name and you may be removed from the game for INACTIVITY. Voting for yourself is the same as using a pass. This is subject to change ONLY if the current GM has made it clear to the entire guild.
8. You may NOT post screenshots of your placement PM’s, be they edited or real. You MAY post real/edited screenshots of OTHER PM’s, as long as the GM and GameMaster mule account are not involved. The PM MAY NOT look like the GM or GameMaster mule account had any part in it at ALL. The GM and GameMaster mule account’s names and anything that they may or may not have said are also OFF LIMITS. Users are also not allowed to access the GameMaster mule account for any reason whatsoever unless they are currently hosting a game and using it in said game.
............Violation: Warning and possible removal from the current game.
9. If you miss three rounds in a ROW or five rounds TOTAL, you will be removed from the game for inactivity. You may still post and speculate, but you may NOT vote, be killed, or be jailed. This is subject to change ONLY if the current GM has made it clear to the entire guild.
10. The GM will not get involved in the game except to post their own little comments. These comments must be neutral and may NOT give away anything about what’s actually going on in the game. This means NO giving away ANY information about who has what role to ANYONE.
............Violation: warning, and banning from hosting future games for twice the regular waiting period.

11. By default, there will NEVER be secret clues hidden within the updates. The current GM MAY however, state that they wish to integrate the clues into the updates if he/she wishes as long as they inform the guild of this before the game begins.
12. You may NOT look at inboxes, outboxes, sent boxes, or save boxes of any player during the game. You should NEVER tell anyone else your password, there’s simply no reason for it. A secret password is a happy password.
............Violation: If we find out that you have been peeking, you will be removed from the current game, BANNED from playing the next game, and warned.
13. All clues given to the GM for the NR must have something to do with your GAIA self. They can be about your avatar, profile, journal, guilds, whatever, as long as they have been stated somewhere on GAIA. Nothing about your life in reality unless you’ve posted something about it on the GAIA forums.
14. Clues may be as cryptic or as simple as you like, but they must eliminate at least one other person who is playing the game. Nothing like “I have an Avatar.” Because that applies to everyone, “I am not a mod” would be a better choice, as it eliminates everyone who is from suspicion, while leaving a large amount of other people who also aren’t mods for everyone to debate over.
15. You may NOT let others log on to your account in your absence and vote in your stead. If you will be away for an extended period of time during the game, speak to the GM and ask them whether they will be willing to allow you to stay active in the game.
............Violation: Any person found voting for others will be removed from the current game, along with the person/people they’re voting for.

16. ANY conflicts involving things OUTSIDE of the game must be dealt with OUTSIDE OF THE GAME! If you have a problem with someone, leave the drama out of the guild!
............Violation: Dealt with on a case-by-case basis. Possible warnings, or temporary bans will be issued until you can learn to keep outside things outside where they belong.
17. Any decision made by the GM pertaining to the game is FINAL!
18. Mules may not interfere with game play in any way, shape, or form! They may speculate and they may contribute to discussion, but they may NEVER get directly involved! A Mule may NEVER be allowed to relay clues, or ANY information about the game that is not already publicly known.
............Violation: Handled on a case-by-case basis depending on severity. The longer it takes to find out who is
behind an interfering mule, the harsher the punishment will be. You CAN and WILL be punished for suspected connection with an interfering mule MONTHS, even YEARS after the incident has occurred!
19. Mules and regular users MAY NOT cause any unnecessary drama in the guild.
............Violation: Guild ban for both mule and main account when the main is found out. If the main is not found out for months or years after the incident, they are still accountable, and will still be punished for their actions!
20. Outside organizations and manipulations may occur, but they must be kept within the guild! Get creative, start secret codes, white text, hide messages in your posts, etc.

21. Fabrication of evidence in order to get another user in trouble will NOT be tolerated. If we suspect you're handing us false evidence, you WILL be dealt with accordingly.
............Violation: Handled on a case-by-case basis depending on the type of offense the fabricator is accusing
another of, and the type of punishment they expected the other to receive.
22. Posting in the voting thread is strictly prohibited unless you are voting! You MAY have additional comments in your post aside from the vote, but unless your post contains a vote, it WILL be deleted.
............Violation: Your post will be deleted. Repeated offenses may see warnings (informal or not) depending on the number of times you ignore this rule.
23. These rules may change at ANY given time. It is YOUR responsibility to check this thread for changes. The crew will do it's best to inform everyone of changes, but ignorance of the rules is never a valid excuse.

[Game Explanation]

How to Play - The Basics
Each round, all participants that have not been killed, jailed, or gone inactive, will vote for whom they believe to be the Sniper. Voting takes place in my journal with the previous day's update. Improper votes will not be counted.

Once the voting has been completed (usually, there is a time deadline for voting) the votes will be tallied.
Whoever gets the most votes will be voted off, and removed from the game (jailed).

While voting is taking place, several other things will happen:

The Sniper and Crazy Killer will each PM the GameMaster(GM) of whom they wish to kill. AND a clue about who they are.
The News Reporters will be given a clue about either the Sniper or Crazy Killer by the GM.
The G-Team Members will PM the GM with the person they wish to protect.

It seems complicated, but it's rather simple.

When the round (or "Day" ) ends, the GM will write a story update which usually contains two parts:
A story bit about the people who are voted off going to jail, and a description of how the two people were killed and left behind.
Through the whole game, a continuing storyline is usually maintained.

This whole process continues until both the Crazy Killer and Sniper are voted off, or until the Crazy Killer and/or Sniper are the only ones left.

If you are at all confused about how the game works, don't be afraid to post in the thread and ask for clarification! n.n

But where's the FUN part?

That's not fun enough for you?
Fine.
XD
The fun comes in with how you play the game. How you conduct yourself in the thread, arousing suspiscion, lying, cheating, etc. Pretty much anything goes. You can claim to be the Author, even if you're not. You can offer to 'protect' someone as a G-Teamer, even if you're the Sniper! PM people, make alliances, gang up on people, start rumors, it's all game!

That's essentially the way the game works....

[Game Tips]

Here are some tips to keep the game fun for you ^^

* Lying, deception, backstabbing, and scapegoating is part of the game. If you become a victim of this, don't worry. It happens to everyone at some point, so try not to hold it against anyone.

* (addendum to previous tip) That being said, it's important to know who you can trust. Find out who can keep secrets well, find out who is known for ratting people out; the people you ally yourself may win you or cost you the game.

* Telling someone you have a role is not illegal, but is incredibly risky. When it comes down to the wire, your ally may decide to give you up.

* Sheeping. Sheeping is a term SGers use to describe a specific jailing process. A person will provide evidence (whether it be genuine or fake) against a person based on in-game clues and behavior in order to get others to vote for them. Sheeping is NOT throwing a person in jail due to a landslide in votes.

* Try to think for yourself. Don't just vote for who everyone else is voting for just because.

* Red herrings (fake clues) are not illegal. Giving people fake clues makes the game tougher and can buy the killers more time.

(Thanks Phoe for those tips <3)

* Giftsnipes are when you send a gift to someone with a message inside about the game. Alot of clues are sent through gift snipes. Just because something was giftsniped doesn't mean it's real, nor does it mean its false. Its up to you to decide what to believe and what not to believe.

* Getting jailed is nothing personal. People don''t jail you because they don't like you, they jail you because they feel you are suspicious. Just because people don't trust you when you say you have no role doesn't mean they don't like you.

* Trust can be very hard to both gain and give in this game. If people don't trust you, don't get offended. Its not that they don't like you, its just that they don't trust easily.

And the main thing to remember: THIS IS A GAME. People don't do things in the game to hurt others. They don't backstab, kill, lie, betray, or any of that because they don't like you. They do it because it makes the game fun, and at times can be very good strategy. If you take what people do in the game personally you'll most likely end up quitting, or wanting to quit, pretty quickly.

[F. A. Q.]

Do I have to join the guild to play? This sounds interesting and fun, and would love to join at the start of the next game. So... do I have to join the guild, or can I post as a guest?
You don't need to join the guild to play. In the case that the Guild has been switched to Private, you may still play the game, but you must also apply to join the guild. The Kroo will be constantly checking for new applications for the guild.

How many days per round are there? Or does that depend on the number of people?
There is one day per round.

How do we join the game? Pm the Gm?
You may not join a game after it has already started, however you may still speculate and post in the game. You just can't vote. When a new game starts the GM will make a thread for people to sign up in. Sign up in that thread and you will be part of that game.

Is everyone allowed to vote? Including Jailed, Sniped, Killed, and Inactives? Or are they just done and have to wait for a new game?
The jailed, sniped, killed, and inactives may NOT vote. They have to wait until the new game to vote again. However, they can still participate in the game. The only thing they cant do is vote.

If a G-Team member protects someone, then gets killed, and in the same update the person they were protecting gets killed, what happens?

And what if one of the killers gets killed? Do the person they intended to kill die also, or do they remain alive?

That is up to the current GM to decide.

.... but where is the actual game played ? O.o

In the Main Forum of the guild, in pms, ims, towns, anywhere you want to go to talk and to scheme is where the game can be played. However, the main forum is where all the players can get together and discuss, and it is also where the voting takes place.

I'm new here and a little confused, sooo...who votes? The game participants or the guild members? Or both?
The game participants. Not all guild members participant in the game. If you are a guild member and didnt sign up for the current game then you can't vote.

Question: if you get killed, or voted off or you are inactivite . are you out of the game for good? or the the round? You are out for the entire game.

Are we allowed to PM people about game-related things, first of all, and second, can we post the contents from these PMs, as long as they're not from a GM or doctored to look like one?
Yes, you are.

Is someone else gonna be GM next round or will it forever be the current GM?
There is a new GM elected every game.

How does the new GM get elected?
There is a thread where all people running for gm can post a sample update, and tell us what their plans for the game are. Then, in the same thread, people say who they want for GM. The person with the most votes win.

Can I run for GM?
If you've played two or more games, then yes. If you have not then you have to wait until you have to apply for GM.

This game sounds EXACTLY like the game of Mafia!! If someone can reference the sniper game to the Mafia game, that'd be great. That way I can understand it @____@
t actually is practically the same ^^

Sniper/CK = Mafia members
G Team = Gardian Angel
Newsreporter =?= Detective

the differences are that the killers don't know who the other killers are, and each one makes their own kill. Making 2 deaths a day instead of one

and the Newsreporter instead just receives clues about who the killers are, instead of asking about a particular person and getting a confirmed answer from the GM

What's with the numbers in the Voting thread I think it was? Like: #54 votes for #21....
When you sign up for the game everyone gets assigned a number. The first number when you vote is your number, and the 2nd number is the number of the person you're voting for.

How is the G-Team selected?
All the positions in the game are selected using a random number generator. If the RNG shows the number assigned to you, then that means you get a role.
