It was too hot once again, the open terrain and temperature unbearable. Never before, did the lioness realize, did she miss home as much as now. The ground was softer and cooler to the touch. Muddy, and not this harsh option of just rock and sand. Although, for now she was thankful to the rocks that grew so large to be boulders. At least they provided some shelter and shade. It was here that Inija took refuge, hiding under a shallow dip in the ground under the boulder's edge.

Sore ribs lifted and settled with each hiccuped pant as she tried to steady her breathing, her eyes cautious to keep alert on her surroundings. Seeing that it was clear save for the random flocks of birds, the lioness held out her throbbing paw. It was all she could honestly see of her injuries, though she could feel more nearly everywhere. Damn, she hadn't eve seen that warthog in the tall grass until she was face to face with the stinker. A big mistake, even now she couldn't help but scold at her easy error. What if it had been another carnivore? It was inexcusable.....at least no one else had seen the event. Licking away at her injury, Inija kept to the shadow of the rock, deciding it best to stay put until her pride had returned full force. At the moment though, she doubted she could pull a casual grin with how ragged her skin felt.

Man, was it hot.

Rashne, too, was suffering in the heat of the Rogue lands, his primarily-black coat trapping in much of the heat he was not use to. Back in his own pride, the caves kept the cool in, shielding him from the hot sun, the water keeping cool air constantly circulating around the pride. Here, in the Rogue lands, there wasn't anything to keep him cool -- rarely was there shade to lay under, the tall grasses seeming to keep in the heat as opposed to letting it circulate. But he wasn't one to complain. He and his sister, Bhavini, were on their Seekers quest -- it was required for them to go out and see the world, to find what they were meant to do, their purpose in life. He knew what he wanted to do -- he wanted to become a guard, to protect his home from any dangers that potentially threatened it. So of course, it was only natural that, as his quest, he protect his sister. Showing that he could keep her safe would help to prove himself, show that he was a competent lion, and not a cub anymore. It was his duty.

Now that he was wandering alone, however, it was a lot less easy to keep good face. Bhavini had decided to go find food for them for the night, and had insisted that, since she was to be a hunter, it was her duty, and that he should not come with her. Reluctantly he had agreed. They were to meet back at the large baobab tree at dusk -- she had promised to come back then, even if she had not caught anything. However, this left the entire day for Rashne to wander.

Head low, Rashne fought to keep his tongue from lolling out of his mouth, feeling thirsty from the heat of the day. He had already tried to drink from several mirages that had radiated from the dried, cracked earth... that had been a little embarrassing. So when he first saw the white lioness laying beside the overhanging rock, the black lion thought it was a mirage. Yet the closer he got, he could see her moving, licking what seemed to be a wound, and from the way she was laying she looked to be in pain. He paused, staying perfectly still. Some lions did not respond well to others, especially if they were hurt -- he did not want to rile her up too much. But at the same time, she looked as if she might not be able to hunt for herself, in her condition. Rashne was a compassionate and rather chivalrous lion -- even a lion he didn't know, he almost always offered to help, even more so if it was a female.

Well... only one thing to do then.

Approaching slowly, he stopped a few feet away, slipping into a non-aggressive pose, hoping she would not be hostile.

"Miss... are you alright?"

Her tongue continued its lapping task on the sore arm, as if repetition would bring a full recovery. Though she was fully aware only time could do such, it still felt comforting to have some pressure placed on the bruise. But the day was young and still hot, forcing the lioness to pull back to conserve any water to her body. Sunlit eyes scanned her terrain from under the rocks shade and she couldn't help but snicker to herself. Of course the prey would know when she was out of the game....the blasted gazelle grazing close by boldly.

A breeze, low and fleeting, drifted across her and caressed away in the grass.
Just they wait-

Inija closed her eyes and delivered a small smile. It was always gratifying to hear the words of wisdom, if not patience, from the spirits around her. They had a rhyme and reason for everything, and it must be the lioness' role to linger under this boulder for now. Though....she was known to be a sassy and impatient femme. She couldn't help but wonder how long this would take.

It took awhile, but something caught the pale lioness' attention in her boredom. There was something out there in the heat haze; a distorting black figure. Inija was forced to quint to make out its general shape from the distance it had. Hn, a hyena? It better not be! She shuffled in aggitation as it drew blurrily near, and it wasn't until she noticed the fluff on the scalp and a swing ot a puffed tail did she sigh. In the very least it was another of her kind.

And on the same side of the pebble, lions had there own kind to be wary of. Pressing her form deeper into the hiding place, she hoped it was at least narrow or slanted enough to prevent one-sided attacks.

Ears flew forward as a voice hit her, and she turned her head back to realize he was close enough to be a focused creature now. A black lion with red painting him scarcely. It was any wonder she had been able to recognize his ruff too, with how it was so pale.

Tossing a grin, Inija shook her head with a lazy flick of her own tail. "I've had better, to be honest. But what's done is done and I'd rather not have another fierce encounter. Yes?"

Rashne blinked, lifting a paw and pulling back a little in surprise at the response. It wasn't by any means rude, nor was it particularly threatening, but it certainly threw the black lion off-guard. He hadn't even considered that she might think of him as an attacker, although really, when he thought about it, he should have. She was hurt -- scavengers such as hyenas might take advantage of a young, wounded lioness. All the more reason he felt compelled to see if he could help. He didn't know the extent of how hurt she was, but perhaps he could bring her some food and water, if she couldn't find some herself.

Taking another step forward, not to approach but merely to regain the ground he had lost, Rashne tilted his head a little, careful to keep his posture unimposing, in case she felt threatened.

"No Miss, of course not. I mean you no harm..." He started slowly, offering her a good-natured grin in return, "Quite the opposite, I assure you."

Now that he got a good look at her, she was very pretty, her injured body not able to mask it. Although it was covered in dust, Rashne could tell that her coat was normally a pure white, her black tail flecked with it like sea foam or stars. While the design around his eyes was blocky, hers curled elegantly beside her eyes and along the fluff near her jaw. She reminded him of the sky, perhaps of a star or the moon, shining brightly at night. But what was he thinking? This was neither the time nor the place to think about something like this!

Grinning sheepishly, he cleared his throat, taking another small step towards her, although careful to keep his distance.

"I'm suppose to be out catching food... but my sister won't miss me until sometime tomorrow morning, if then. If you wouldn't mind sharing a meal with me..." he let his voice trail off, not sure if he had worded that correctly. Some lions didn't take too kindly to 'charity', and he couldn't be sure if this lioness was one of them. If he had worded it correctly, however, perhaps it wouldn't sound so much as charity as doing him a favor. He did want her to eat with him.

The lioness quirked a brow as the other paused crookedly. Just what was he hesitating on? There wasn't more predators around now were there? Curious, Inija turned her head to scan their surroundings but found nothing of concern. So what was the deal...did she smell or something? Finding the thought insulting, the girl glanced back at the other just as he took another step.

Well, he sounded honest enough and there was no shadow of deceit in his bright eyes. So Inija returned the grin while giving a chuckle that sounded more like a cough. "That's reassuring if true." And this time she didn't mind his step forward, both by his kind spirit and her own confidence in (slowly) returning strength. Yes, this encounter should be no problem.

"Oh? Well you're doing a fine job hunting." She snirked as she shuffled herself upright, already annoyed by her cramped location. "And where is this sister of yours? Would she find it an act of betrayal if I join in this hunting?" She took a moment to stretch her front paws before lumbering out from her hiding spot with tender steps. She'd have to adapt to scratches and scars anyways if she was expected to live a whole lifetime. Shaking out her fur, the lioness grinned back at the boy. "That's funny though, to think kin traveling together! My clutch all had to go their separate ways...." How boring and almost lonesome, but still the point of the challenge. Inija shrugged her shoulders to the topic. "In any case, what's your name stranger? Mine's Inija." And it was here that Inija allowed a teasing wink, if only to prove her own friendliness to the near opposite lion. A natural habit though for her, in the case of any male. Hm, he might prove useful in obtaining an easy meal for today. And perhaps a good ear to talk to for once.

Yes, the lioness found this worth her time and entertainment.
