Name: Tamal
Age: 19 Turns
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Craft: Wherhandler
Rank: N/A
Physical Description: Thin, long, black hair, it either hangs loose (when he is on land) or he ties it back to the nape of his neck tightly. His hands are rough with calluses and scars from working nets for most of his life; his skin is rough in general from the constant beating of wind. Tamal has dark hazel eyes. He is not naturally tan but spending so much time outside has given him the “farmer’s tan” look. His voice is hoarse from breathing salty air. His height is something of a sore subject, he has the height of a Crom miner—that is to say he’s quite small.

Personality: Fiercely loyal and respectful, Tamal had these qualities drilled into him from a young age. He will always use a title given even if asked not to. ("Please call me, so-and-so, you do not need to call me journeyman so-and-so.") He is quite introverted but can be baited into conversation easily if the topic fits his fancy.

It has only been a short time since losing Tamsk and he has taken the death of his pal very hard, the emotions that came with Tamsk's death have clung to him and he cannot shake the terrifying feelings. This causes him to go rigid around watchwhers and any talk of them. He knows that Tamsk was nothing compared to the importance of the dagons of Pern, and that his death is not something others mourn; but it still hurts losing a creature that he had a bond with. He has had a hard time attaching himself to anyone or thing since Tamsk death in fear they'll leave as well.

Tamal is terribly thorough when doing a task assigned to him, if asked to clean a room you wont find a speck of dirt. He has a high work ethic and will go about a task with zeal, pushing himself into his work. This comes from being told to redo a job over and over; after knocking over a bucket clumsily or spilling a dust pan.

Socially Tamal is a follower or a right hand man.

Strengths: Loyal(to those he has an attachment preset, his attachment issues make it hard to make new friends and relationships he's willing to stick with), dependable, hard working towards a set goal.
Weaknesses: Clumsy, attachment issues, no real trade to make a living, trouble reading.

History: Like many young men born in a small Sea Hold he has grown up knowing nothing more than the sea, what type of fish for the season, and particularly anything to do with sailing and seacraft. His mother was a good friend of a captain and was able to convince the aging man that the hold might need someone to go to Tillek for training. At the age of nine he was sent to Tillek to fulfill a “proper” training in sea navigation and fishing craft. His mother hoped that he would live a less traditional life and harsh life than one in the seahold.

Tamal took happily to life in Tillek and managed to make a few friends that he has kept for the last ten turns. When you’re out to sea together you learn a lot about one another, and also learn to trust in those you sail with. They formed study groups and worked hard at learning knots, netting, and sea life. He had to work very hard to hone his skills, many thought it would be unlikely he'd walk the tables, even though he came from a seahold.

As a senior apprentice, Tamal went to the southern continent to help unload a trader's shipment. While there a watchwher egg hatched. The young men crowding around the wher, the blue wher did not approach any of them. Whispers in the crowd spoke of putting the wher down if no one would impress it. Tamal in a stupid split decision walked forward and an impression was made. The blue wher’s name became Tamsk.

Tamal stayed on in the hold so that Tamsk would be able to do watch dog duty, his master nearly skinning him alive when he heard. An unfortunate event happened a turn later killing Tamsk, Tamal was asked to accompany a party traveling from one hold to the next, because they had to camp and a night watch would be useful. During the night Tamsk pursued felines near the camp and died of his wounds.

Tamal moved from southern soon after the incident and lives in a minor fishing hold on Ista Island where he helps fix nets and gut fish, he keeps to drudgery instead of pursuing SeaCraft, something he did not have a passion for.

Pets: No pets, although like many he’s searched the coast for flitter eggs.
Other/Talents:

Thank you for being so patient, Tisi; we're still reviewing on the Wher thing, so hopefully I'll have a decision for you shortly.

One thing I don't understand though; why did they have a wher egg there if no one planned on Impressing it? Whers can still be trained and the like without actual Impression. o:

All the Weyrs of Pern

Watchwhers can Impress, but they do not need to, although for the safety of all involved, hatchling whers that do not Impress are usually killed. They grow at a fast rate and are exceedingly strong, not exceedingly bright, and very dangerous.

Was what I was going on, felines are dangerous enough in Southern, I don't think that they would take the time to keep something else dangerous near their hold when there are felines, and other 'dangers' of Southern to deal with. Unless Southern has changed that much according to current shop canon?

Perhaps someone planned on impressing but they were not in the Hold that day/they were pulled away on other business/miscalculated the day that the egg would hatch? Hmm...
