 Aphrodite stared into the shimmering water at the edge of a tidepool of cool clear water. She loved to look at her own reflection, for she admired herself very much. She was quite vain, and didn't care who knew it. She loved herself more than anything, and anyone else.
Her usually spunky attitude usually scared off any potential friends or mates, and only the sweet and gentle Tanner had ever seen past her rough outer exterior to get to know her more, but he wasn't around.
Dite shook her head so that her hair fell down beside her and she used her teeth to pull out any twigs or leaves that had managed to get stuck in her long braid. Her hair was what made her so vain. She felt that in her hair lay beauty, and she had plenty of it. She lowered herself to the ground and bent her head so she could drink from the pool. The cool water refreshed her and she settled into a content state of mind, as she relaxed and enjoyed the sounds of the ocean nearby.((I tried to set it near the ocean, since I read that Jiyuu had grown up near the ocean. And I'm not sure about the title ... not sure what to call it. Hoping to get ideas from your reply. ))

 (The ocean works well, cause that is indeed where the family herd is at the moment, lol. ^_^)"Bouken, you little runt, get back here!" Honestly, had he any idea that the little runner would be so much trouble he might have just left it alone that first encounter. By now however the thing was practically family, so he had to make sure it didn't get lost.Aforementioned "runt" had been distracted by the sight of a small furry and had decided to chase after it, completely ignoring the calls of the winged beast behind him. Food was much more important after all. He chased the furry through the brush, not paying attention to where they were going until he practically ran into another of the large four-leggers-- at which point he lost track of the furry. Slightly disgruntled, he looked up at the startled female and looked her over critically.By the time Jiyuu was able to battle his way through the brush (not an easy feat for his size), he found his charge running around a strange mare and looking her over as he had done when they first met. "Ah, I'm so sorry about that," he said apologetically before turning his attention back onto the Norora. "Bouken, cut it out," he said sternly. The familiar cast him an annoyed glance, but heeded the command nonetheless. Turning back to the mare, he said, "I hope he didn't give you too much of a fright. ^_^; He's harmless really."

"Of all the nerve!" She exclaimed, startled by some scaly two-legged reptile. It had emerged out of no-where and almost ran her over in it's haste. She quickly got to her feet. "Who.. or what are you? she asked a little calmer. She hadn't meant to be snippy with the creature, but she definitely didn't like surprises either.
She kept a keen eye on the smaller creature, but her ears alerted her to another approaching presence. "Oh great... more of them." she thought, but as she looked in the direction of the approaching sound, she realized it was another kirin instead.

She watched as the kirin took command of the little one, Bouken, he had called it.
"No, not too much, but either way, I don't like to be surprised." she snapped at him, immediately regretting it. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to snap at you. I'm Dite, Aphrodite, but Dite for short. Who are you? And what is that?" She inclined her head towards Bouken.
She shook herself, causing the full length of her hair to sway at her feet, resting beside her left hoof.

"Ah, pardon my manners. My name is Jiyuu," he replied with a small bow. "And this is Bouken. I'm not sure what he is exactly, but he's a pretty good companion nonetheless. It's a pleasure to meet you, Dite." Taking a moment to examine the female, he was quite surprised by the length of hair that he saw. That definitely had to be the longest mane he had ever seen. "Do you live near here?" Jiyuu didn't often meet many other Kirin around the beach. Most lived much deeper in the forest that he could tell.

"Jiyuu is it? Interesting."She noted his eyes roaming over her, and smirked a little. She always appreciated attention from other kirin. "I do live nearby. Not too far from here I have made myself a den. Quite often I like to come visit these pools, so that I may examine myself, and bask in my own beauty." She held her head a little higher at her own praise.
"How did you come across this, Bouken? He's certainly an energetic little thing." she looked over towards the little one.

Jiyuu quirked a brow slightly as she spoke of "basking in her own beauty". Obviously somebody certainly had an inflated opinion of herself. "Well, I was running patrol one morning and I noticed some unfamiliar footprints in the ground. I followed them for a minute or so before coming across him." Wasn't a very exciting story really, but that is what had happened.
Bouken in the meantime held absolutely no interest in the current conversation about him. Instead he was much more focused on the length of mane lying on the ground before him. Scampering up to it quietly, he picked up the end in his little clawed hand and and turned it over a couple of times to look at it. Then, without warning, he brought the end up to his mouth and began gnawing experimentally on it.

"Ah, I see." she nodded to him. "I wonder if I might could find one of these to become my companion..." she thought to herself, imagining all the things a personal little helper could do for her.
Just then, she felt a tug on her hair, and looked down to see Bouken chewing on the end of her mane. "AHH!! Let go of that you vile little creature!!" she screamed, jerking her head back, trying to pull the hair out of his grasp. "How dare you chew on my beautiful mane! She stamped the ground with her hoofs, hoping to shoo him away from her hair.

Bouken scampered out of the way of the stomping ooves, but was still reluctant to let go of his new "toy". At least until Jiyuu shoved him over with his horn that was.
"Bouken! Let go of her mane this instant!" he ordered sternly. The Norora knew he meant business when the horn came into play and begrudgingly released the length of hair. That didn't stop him from voicing his complaint though. As a peace offering, Jiyuu offered him the end of his tail to chew on, which the saurian gladly accepted. "Little bugger's always got to have something in his mouth, I swear," the stallion muttered under his breath, shaking his head at the small creature. Then, looking up apologetically at the mare yet again, he said, "Um, so sorry about that. He's not usually this troublesome. ^_^;"

She glared at Bouken, tossing her hair around her neck, out of reach of his little claws. She turned to Jiyuu, and in a sweeter tone said, "Thank you for rescuing my hair. I don't know what I would have done with it if you hadn't. " She felt so relieved. "No need to appologize for him. It wasn't your fault. And I do appologize for reacting like I did. I'm just very partial to my hair being messed with." With that, she reach around and licked the end of the mane, smoothing out the hair so it all laid flat.
Happy with it again, she turned back to the stallion. "So, Jiyuu, what has brought you and Bouken to this area? Do you live nearby; near the beach perhaps?"

"Actually, yes, I live nearby with my family," he said with a small smile. "I was doing a patrol of the area when Bouken here suddenly ran off after a mouse, and I had to come chase him down." He cast his familiar a faux glare, but the norora simply continued to gnaw on Jiyuu's tail, casting him the cutest :3 face he could muster. The stallion simply chuckled and shook his head, for it was nearly impossible to stay mad at the little fella- even when he was being a brat.

She watched him interact with his little friend. Friend; something she didn't have many of. She wished she could be nicer, and she really did try. Perhaps this was her chance to try harder.
She smiled to him and replied, "Oh I see. So I guess he does eat things other than hair then?" She chuckled at her own little joke. "Do you have a big family?"

"You could say that," he replied. "Aside from my parents, I have three sisters and a little brother. It's getting pretty cramped where we live at the moment actually," he said with a soft chuckle. "May just have to move soon."
Bouken was bored of gnawing on Jiyuu's tail by this point, and instead was searching around on the ground for anything moving. The little familiar was rather ADD at times.

"You do have a big family. Where would you go? I've always wanted to travel the land and find somewhere else to live, rather than the small den I made for myself, but I've been too afraid."
She shuffled her feet, standing for too long in one spot. She was beginning to get hungry, and wondered what she might find to eat. She knew of some berries nearby, and thought she'd invite Jiyuu to come along.
"Would you happen to be hungry? I know of some berries nearby that we could eat, and perhaps Bouken would like some?" she nodded her head in the direction of the bushes. They weren't but a few yards from where they stood.

"I don't know really," Jiyuu answered honestly. "We haven't really discussed moving much. Perhaps somewhere else in the forest? The main issue would be finding a large enough shelter."
At the question of the berries he smiled. "That sounds good, although I doubt that Bouken will partake. He much prefers meat."
As if to confirm Jiyuu's statement, Bouken looked up at the two at the sound of his name with a large beetle wriggling futilely in his mouth. When small animals couldn't be found, these bugs generally made for a nice snack.

"A large place would definitely be needed then." She thought on that. Three sisters, younger brother, two parents, and himself would make seven kirin living in one area. She'd never even been around that many kirin at once. Perhaps she could meet this big family sometime.
She looked down at Bouken with the bug in his mouth. She gave a slight cough, closing her eyes and shaking her head to remove the image. She didn't eat meat of any kind, so she felt sympathy for the little bug. "Yuck. He eats meat? Do you eat meat as well? I can't stand it. Not really the taste, but more the fact that I'm killing something to obtain that meat. I stick strictly to berries, plants and roots." She felt a little self-righteous at making her point known and turned to lead him towards the berries.
"It's a choice I suppose, and I won't hold it against you if you do. Come, I'll show you where the berries are."
