Arun was troubled.
Not by anything meaningful, of course -- there were very few times with the striped lino was perturbed by something meaningful, whether it was because he never came in contact with 'important' matters or whether he just didn't label them as such, it was yet to be seen. At any rate, this problem wasn't anywhere near important. No, Arun was troubled because he was bored. At that moment he was laying on his back under the shade of a baobab tree on his back, stretched out in a rather comical fashion, looking dead from lack of stimulation.
He hadn't been a member of the Ela Pride long at all. Perhaps a few days, a week or two. So one would think there would be plenty for him to do, especially when there was a whole prideland to explore. The problem was that, without anyone to talk to or explore with, there wasn't much fun to be had. Sure, he could talk and joke with himself, but really, what fun was that? All that really happened when one did that was the lion ended up looking crazy and was thereupon ostracized by his pride. And that... wasn't really what he was going for.
What he needed was a friend, someone to laugh and play pranks and find ladies with. He wasn't above admitting that he was kind of lonely, and feeling a little awkward, wandering around by himself, trying not to step on people's tails and get in their way. He got the feeling that there were rules he should be understanding, rules that he shouldn't break, and he couldn't for the life of him remember what they were. Could he talk to shamans? He thought the one from the Tree ceremony was a pretty ok guy. He had laughed with him, at any rate. Or at him. Could he talk to people outside his clan? Well, he assumed so, on the second one, considering he had been told he could marry outside the clan. Still, was it considered unheard of? He couldn't even get people in his own clan to talk to him, much less another one. (He assumed it was because they were all too busy, and not just blatantly ignoring him, which was more likely the case.)
Sighing heavily and rolling onto his stomach, Arun felt a tickle by his ear and glanced up, his red eyes crossing a little as he tried to look up at it.
"Hey there cricket bug. You'll keep me company, eh?"
He grinned at the little bug on his ear, a bug who had nearly gotten him in trouble at the Tree Festival. The silly thing wouldn't leave him alone (and tended to make him itch all over) but by now, after sleeping and eating and joking by himself, it was almost nice to have some company. Even if it was a bug's. Mustering a crooked smile, he stood up lazily, stretching a little and looking around once before sauntering off in a random direction.
"Lets see what this place has to offer. But if we meet any dames, let me do the talking, ok?"

Chepi was born here, she had never had any issues with rules other then she broke her parents rules all the time, most of the time without meaning to. Trouble just followed Chepi around like when her and Eeva upset a herd of.. something and ended up getting stuck in a hole and having to dig their way out. Oh and she upset that grumpy male and she was sure she was suppose to be somewhere now. Oh yeah meeting clan members - no thanks. Boring!
She wandered around the lands quite often, she knew them well enough and though she tended to stick around the Earth and Bird clan she had met others from the Wolf clan for example. In fact she rather liked meeting others as long as they weren't grumpy. Grumpy lions were boring, no they were worse then boring they were impossible!
She had been hoping to find someone, anyone when she had spotted the lion playing dead. Though why anyone would want to play dead she wasn't sure and so she headed over to him, he needed to wake up but then he spoke. Who was he talking to?
"You know talking to yourself apparently means your mad." She stated it as a fact though she wasn't sure if it was or not. Maybe he was bored? No he looked like an adult. She had noticed adults seem to like being boring.

Arun noticed the lioness approaching from the corner of his eye, not looking completely at her until she had started talking, just in case she wasn't actually intending to look at him. It was pretty hot this afternoon, the sun having just risen to the highest point in the sky -- it was quite possible she had wanted to lay under the tree he had been under. Or perhaps it was her tree, and she was about to claw him into an untimely death (he thought this with a remarkably cheerful, upbeat voice in his head). As she moved closer, however, he grew more and more confident that she was not, in fact, angry with him. Always nice.
Pausing a moment, he gave her a crooked grin, amused.
"I assure you, miss, that I am not mad. I'm was talking to the bug," He replied matter-of-factly, his voice portraying how not-at-all serious he was as he lifted his eyes to his ear. The bug, of course, had mysteriously (and conveniently) vanished. The male lion made a face.
"Oh well thanks a lot, cricket bug. Make a liar outta me."
Sighing, the striped lion scratched his ear with a hind paw. Sometimes it was that way with friends. Easy come, easy go. So who was this little miss who had wandered over to him? She seemed confident enough, so she was probably pride-born... Pretty thing too. He was surprised she didn't have a group of friends clustered around her, chatting and having fun like he wished he was having.
Which brought him back to his original thought. Kind of. Why had this little miss wandered over to him?
Puffing out his chest a little, he grinned at her, his swagger almost comical as he trotted a little closer, "And what're you doing, talkin to lowly rogue like me? How d'ya know I'm not one of those dangerous, mad, although obviously good-looking rogues?" He teased, swaying his tail back and forth, like a cub ready to play.

She smiled as he spoke, he was entertaining at least. Talking to bugs - it was nearly as bad as her family! Them with their birds and her sister with that rabbit. One day she would make her sister realise rabbits were for eating.
"Bugs?" She laughed. He was amusing she could give him that even if she didn't have a clue who he was but then she had never known everyone in the pride, mostly because she couldn't be bothered. She also now avoided the wolf clan as she was sure they were all like that grumpy lion she met and she was out to have fun not meet grumpy annoying lions like him.
She listened as she spoke and she couldn't help but smile widely as he spoke. Was he flirting? Well two could play that game at least, well she might be able to. All the males around here were boring so it wasn't like she had any experience at such things. Maybe he wasn't flirting though and just had a huge ego? She wasn't sure, males confused her and always seemed less amusing then this male.
"Well maybe I like talking to dangerous, mad, obviously good-looking rogues." She chuckled as she spoke. "Though as long as you aren't boring I see no reason not to talk to you, unless you really are going to kill me in which case I guess my spirit can tell my father that a dangerous, mad and obviously good-looking rogue killed me so they can all panic and I would watch with amusement." She smiled the whole time she was talking. She was amused, more so then she had been in a while. Life had got so boring!
"So does this dangerous, mad, good-looking rogue have a name and a clan?" She chuckled contemplating just calling him a dangerous, mad, good-looking rogue but she decided it was too much of a mouthful to keep saying.
"I am Chepi Kidudushi of the Earth Clan."

"Aha, you see? You admitted it, no take-sies back-sies," Arun grinned broadly, quite pleased that she was playing along with his game. She seemed like a pretty good-natured girl -- something he was quite pleased with. Cute too. There was something very endearing about the feathers they all wore, and the tattoos scattered over their body. He, of course, couldn't have as many (he remembered that rule) but he did enjoy admiring them.
Tilting his head at her curiously, the striped male grinned broadly, taking her words as a compliment. Being interesting was a compliment, wasn't it? "Ah yes, boring. A fate worse than death. And yet... so many seem to be suffering from it..." He took a moment to glance around the immediate area in a mock-suspicious fashion, just in case there were a few of the boring lions around, ready to jump him. There weren't, of course, so he let his red eyes flicker back to the lioness, glancing at her sideways.
"And didn't I tell you I was a terrible, but handsome rogue?" He teased, turning his attention back to her, "I'm Arun, recently Tree Ceremony-d into Mantis Clan. An absolute pleasure to meet you, Miss Chepi. Lucky me, I've met the cutest girl in the pride already, and I've only been here a week."
Hey, it was just harmless flirting right? Unless her father was the protective type. Then he'd better hope he could run faster than he could.
"So sweetheart, what's it like, living in the pride?"

Well this was all very new but she liked it. In fact she really liked it. Flirting wasn't something she was use to and this male was just oh so charming. It was probably a good thing her family wasn't around because they would so ruin this for her and she was about to have some fun with a male! A male ha! This was going to be interesting and she was enjoying it a lot already.
"Well it is nice to meet you Mr Terrible Handsome Rogue Arun who is in the Mantis clan." She chuckled. "Shame you were put in such a bad clan, I mean everything happens in my clan maybe thats why everyone is suffering with boredom." She chuckled again as her clan was also suffering with the same problem but then again she had Cho and she was interesting.
"Cutest girl?" She wasn't sure if he meant it but it helped her ego that was for sure.
"Living in the pride? Erm... like living in the pride? I have lived here all my life so I guess I have nothing to compare it with. Just keep away from my sister Nita, who isn't quite with it in the head and you will be just fine." She smiled as she spoke, she wasn't sure if the smile would leave her face at all while near him - he was too charming.
"Oh and if you want to escape those suffering with boredom, I am generally wandering about."

"I'm sure I'll do something about it. In fact, I'm sure they'll want to get rid of me before long. Hey, maybe I could join your clan, eh?" He replied easily, winking at her. "Put a spider in one of the lion's manes while he's sleeping, they'll chase me outta here faster than I could probably run away." Now to him, that sounded fun, but as soon as he said it, the striped lion thought twice. Perhaps he shouldn't have said that. Yes, Chepi seemed like an easy-going type, but messing with her pride she could easily take offense to.
Sitting back on his haunches, Arun gave her a quizzical look when she sounded confused, tilting his head to one side. "Yeah sweetheart, cute. You know, make-guys-drool-and-follow-after-you cute. Drop-dead gorgeous." Grinning, he lifted a paw over his nose, dropping onto his back dramatically and rolling over, opening one eye to stare up at her with a grin. "You don't think so?"
Well, she certainly was an interesting girl. Not like the girls he had met in the rogue lands. They had all been more interested in baring their teeth at him than actually conversing, much less being receptive to his shameless flirting... harmlessly shameless, of course.
"Nita. Keep away. Got it. Is she as cute you?" He rolled onto his side after a moment, shaking a bit of the dust from his coat, giving her another crooked grin, "Well Miss Chepi, you now have your own official stalker. And if you really want to scare your parents, you can even tell them you have a rogue stalker. Enough to make any parent faint."

She laughed and laughed and laughed.
"Oh do it please do it! I know the exact lion to do it to as well!" She laughed at the thought of that grumpy male with a large spider in his mane. It was something she would happily see, it would be the most amusing thing ever. Chepi wasn't bothered about getting in trouble, she never had.
Drop dead gorgeous? He had to be joking right? She had to laugh at him though, in fact she seemed to be laughing at him a lot. No she wasn't laughing at him, he was just making her laugh. Guys didn't do that to her, in fact there weren't many lions here that did it to her.
"No I don't think so... mostly because no one has said it before, I generally annoy the male species." She looked at him slightly suspiciously which soon turned to a look of disgust.
"Nita is cute it you like babies. She keeps a pet rabbit." She hoped he wouldn't find her cute, she rather liked the attention she was getting and Nita wasn't worthy of it. Nita was... Nita.
"Well my own personal rogue stalker. Sounds good to me." She smirked at him a little. She of course wouldn't mention him to her parents or he might end up being stalked by two very annoying birds.

"Really? You wanna? We could go catch the spider and we could sneak over and plant it right on the back of his neck where it would tickle a lot and would be hard to get off. Then we could hide in the bushes and watch him jump around."
Oh, he liked this girl. This had to be a dream -- no lioness could be this interesting, pretty, and be into what he was into. What gem had he stumbled upon? And how, by whatever god or goddess this pride worshiped, could he keep her entertained and keep him in her good graces? She was probably crawling with possible suitors or secret admirers -- he couldn't imagine she wasn't. Yes, he was sure she would tire of him sooner or later, but for now, he was quite enjoying making her laugh.
Another look of surprise crossed his face. "No one? Naw, that can't be... really? But... no way, look at you! Lookit the sun on your fur! And your eyes are such a lovely color! Like a pool of water under an especially green tree." Arun gave her a genuine smile, "Quite refreshing, I assure you. And, if I may be so bold, your tattoos match my eyes."
The look of disgust also surprised him a bit. From the sound of it, she didn't agree with her sister's pet. He could understand why. "Bunny?" He paused for a moment, looking exceptionally confused, "Uh... but what if one of the other lions... you know... eats it?" He couldn't imagine that would be very good. He hated seeing girls cry, but... a bunny? That seemed almost asking for trouble. He just hoped he wouldn't be around if... or when... it happened. "Ah well, I will somehow have to be satisfied with just stalking you then," He replied cheerfully, stretching his front paws out in front of him, red eyes glittering.

He was probably right to worry about her getting bored of him as she generally bored of things very quickly but as it was he had her interest and as long as he could keep coming up with ideas like the spider she would stay very interested.
"Yes I want to! Oh my word it would be SO funny but I don't know where he would be. Maybe if I find him we can do it another day? Then we can plan it for maximum amusement, maybe even throw a snake in to!" She laughed a little more at the thought of it. Oh it was be the highlight of her life to see that happen in fact she might even try it with Nita.
"Why do you seem so surprised? As you have said many suffer with the boring trait here!" The way he described her eyes was just magical, she had never thought of it before but there was no doubt that her eyes were pretty awesome. She did love the colour of her eyes but hadn't thought of it like that before. "Maybe we were just made to be partners in crime." She chuckled, actually taking notice of his eyes. They were really red, how odd.
"Nita does indeed have a bunny oh and trust me I have tried to eat it. Unfortunately the clan protects the species so as long as he stays around the Earth Clan he is safe. Doesn't stop me trying to eat him every now and then but her screaming and moaning does my head in." She would happily rant about her sister all day and night. She and her sister didn't see eye to eye and never really had.
"I am sorry if its so hard to be just satisfied with me!" She laughed again. "You could always go stalk someone else... I mean there are other girls around!" Of course she didn't mean that, not in the slightest. She was very happy with having his attention to herself.

"Of course sweetheart, I happen to be an excellent spider-catcher. Just whistle, and I'll come running with a spider," he replied, his tail flicking in a playful manner. Things seemed to be going well -- perhaps he'd end up having a partner in crime after all!
He was becoming more and more surprised by Chepi by the second, his expression continuously shifting from a grin to one of mild shock. This time, it was the girl's wit that had startled him out of his cockiness. "Oh, did I say that?" Caught in the web his own tongue had spun, Arun laughed, shaking a little more of the dust from his fur as he shook out his mane, "I did say that, didn't I? Ah, but what you forget is that even boring lions can admire a pretty face." He shamelessly flattered her, meaning every word, but all of it coming out corny and lame. Ah well.
The striped lion couldn't help but laugh at the 'eat the bunny' comment, grinning at her and cocking his head, looking curious. "You can't? Is this a pride rule, or a clan rule? Because I... forgot that rule," He replied easily, seeming fairly unperturbed that he had forgotten an important rule such as that. He didn't mind listening to her talk -- not at all. Overall he wasn't a very arrogant lion when it came to the ladies. He'd talk a big talk around other guys, but around girls he just came out as...
As lame. Just lame.
"Oh sweetheart, somehow I'm sure I'll find a way to be satisfied with only you, the plain and boring thing you are," he teased, crossing his paws idly, "And I don't particularly want to stalk other girls. I think you will do just fine, thank you."

Chepi chuckled.
"Ah but can you catch snakes because lets face it, snakes would be more amusing." She smiled as she spoke wondering what he would say to that. She was sure he would say he could catch one, he just seemed like that kinda guy, whether he could or not she wasn't too bothered.
"You did say that indeed" She laughed again. "They might admire a pretty face but if it all one is to do how are we suppose to know if we have a pretty face?" She was proud of her comeback there. It was a pretty good one. She liked him though, she liked the way he complimented her, she liked the way he had a sense of humour and she liked the way that he seemed as eager to cause trouble as she did. In fact lame would probably be the last word that came to her mind.
"Oh no it's not a pride rule, by all mean eat as many bunnys as you can. I do. It's just in the clan dens and stuff. Its annoying but I do make a point of taking other rabbits home to eat." She had a rather smug proud look on her face as she spoke. Annoying Nita was the best part of her day usually.
Sweetheart? She just smiled at the word, oh she really did like him. All this flattering was just great. Though she would never have thought anyone would call her sweetheart.
"Oh yes I am very plain and so incredibly boring... you won't find worse I assure you!" She laughed. "Well I am glad you don't want to stalk other girls. I think I would just be slightly jealous and anyway the other girls are all plain and boring." She laughed again deciding that all these newcomers joining the pride had clearly been a great idea if only because it brought someone as amusing and charming as him into the pride.

Arun thought about what she said for a moment, thinking about the last time he had tried to catch a snake. It had certainly been a while -- he hadn't had a wing-man in so long, he was sure he was probably rusty. Briefly he thought about his old best friend, an adolescent leopard who had joined another pride a few months before he had found this one. He missed him, certainly -- the striped lion wasn't above admitting he was lonely. Talking to Chepi certainly helped, and he was exceedingly grateful to have a distraction... and such a pretty one at that. "Snakes are a little harder, but I am sure, for my lady, I could catch a few," he replied after a few minutes, giving her a crooked grin, trying his hardest to keep that smile on her face and keep her laughing. Such a cute laugh too. "You're a sharp one. I chose the right girl to stalk... must be my lucky day! But I'll have to keep an eye on you -- you could easily manipulate a less-witty lion such as myself!"
The talk of this rabbit intrigued him a little, and Arun's ears twitched a little, expression shifting to one of bewilderment. He couldn't help but grin a little when she hinted she liked to tease her sister though. "That poor rabbit must be scared silly. You're a regular terror, aren't you?" He said this with great interest and amusement -- that's what they always said about him. So they did have quite a lot in common. The striped lion couldn't help but feel quite pleased about that.
"Well, you have no reason to be jealous. I shall be your tragic admirer for as long as you hold interest in me. Have me run errands, be your body-guard, your official rabbit-chaser..." he trailed off, giving her a goofy look, "I also do nights and weekends too. Can't beat that."

Chepi wasn't sure how much of this flattering she could take. She was enjoying it, more then anything she seemed to love it maybe too much. Her ego was inflating big time and though she wouldn't mind her family would without doubt. As if she wasn't enough trouble anyway!
"Well I shall remember that for the future. Snakes might be useful!" She chuckled and then smiled even wider as he continued to talk. He was a charmer, and very good at it too.
"Oh yes, I am the worst. I have spent my life making sure that everyone's life is misery... at least I do while I can." She knew she would have to stop one day if she were to lead her clan and her parents were already coming down tough on her but she wanted to have fun, that wasn't a crime now was it? Apparently it was.
"I may hold you to that or soon I shall lack any source of amusement." Though the idea of a tragic admirer was something she rather liked the idea of. "Oh don't worry I won't loose interest in you. I have plans for you already my tragic admirer." She couldn't help but laugh again. Oh he was too funny for his own good. How can one be so funny, charming and good looking and decide to stalk her? Well it was clearly her lucky day!

"Well then, we'll get along quite nicely, you and I -- I, ah, have been known to cause much misery and annoyance during the course of my short life," Arun replied sheepishly, scratching his ear with a back paw. Briefly he wondered if his cricket friend was back, and whether or not it was a good or bad thing. This cricket bug had been the source of many a back-itch, at some of the most inappropriate times too. On the other hand, had he not been talking to the silly thing, he might not have met Chepi.
In the end, he decided that this was a lucky bug, and that he would be more than happy to let it sit on his ear whenever it wanted. Even if it did itch to high heaven.
"It will be my pleasure," he replied in his most debonair (and probably obnoxious) voice, teasing her just a little, "Keeping a beautiful young woman such as yourself occupied is a guy's dream come true." At her next statement, however, the striped lion went still, curious, but still looking unconcerned. "Plans?" He paused, both curious and a bit wary. He wondered if he had stumbled across one of those black widow lionesses who played with foolhardy males and then had their whole pride jump on them and skin them alive. He certainly met the 'foolhardy' criteria. Inching towards her on his stomach, he tilted his head, blinking curiously, still grinning a little, "What kind of plans? Now you have to spill~ you've piqued my curiosity!"
