Well, he’d found himself without company for a night – not to say he was unused to spending the night alone, as Soloren didn’t always seek out the company of a dame for a night. In fact, that had a way of being the exception, rather than the rule in his case. It was more surprising that he hadn’t run into anybody that day. No, for him it had just been a long day of walking, all by himself. But he didn’t mind.
But it left him thinking.
He could recall a time as a cub when he’d been curled up in the forelegs of a brightly colored lioness – though in a different way than himself, being groomed while she spoke reassurances to him. Such a foolish child he’d been, wandering away from his family just to be found by that lioness.
But she’d treated him gently and returned him to his parents after a few nights of searching – going out of her way to make sure he got back where he belonged.
However, she was beautiful – or at least she was in the way he remembered her. Soloren couldn’t quite remember her name, but the stories she’d told him about the sea still did – a pride of lions, her children, a male she’d met there who was but an old friend of hers… yet like any dreamy child, he’d hoped the best for it.
Would they find each other? Or perhaps one of them had been doomed to be as he was – a bit.. too attracted to more than he should have been.
Alas, he hadn’t meant it to be any such sport for him. It was just that sort of feeling he enjoyed – female presence was reassuring to him. Not a ‘conquest’ or anything of that sort, just… pleasant company he couldn’t bring himself away from. It was familiar.
Was it familiar? Or perhaps it reminded him of a longing he had for something he could no longer touch?
Soloren laid out in the grass, rolling over onto his back and crossing his paws across his chest to stare up at the sky, his head leaned up against a crook in the tree that would be shading him come the sun of the morning…
But when he closed his eyes, he could almost remember…
…
Almost..
….
That warm feeling, he’d have to find it again.
