Just a quick question out of curiosity.
(there is a plant!)
So Arimasu is used on non-living things, and Imasu is used on living things,....

What would you use for a plant?

You'd use arimasu. For the purposes of verbs, plants aren't considered living.

Strangely, neither are reptiles. I don't understand it, but apparently that's how it works.
