230 MPG (Click for full article.)

"NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The Chevrolet Volt, GM's electric car that's expected to go on sale in late 2010, is projected to get an estimated 230 miles per gallon, the automaker announced Tuesday.

That exceptionally high government mileage rating could give the Volt a major boost. For the first time, car buyers will easily be able to compare electric cars with ordinary gas-powered cars.

"Having a car that gets triple-digit fuel economy can and will be a game changer for us," said GM CEO Fritz Henderson.

Determining fuel economy for an electric car is a tricky matter, and General Motors (GM, Fortune 500) has been working with the Environmental Protection Agency for years on the issue."

So now that GM has both faster and greener cars than Toyota, what reason is there to get one? Oh... yeah... if you have no taste.

It looks eight bazillion times better than a Prius, an Insight or... Well, pretty much any green car, ever.

Why does it look like a Civic? eek

Civic with Audi LEDs! It took that generic sedan shape, made it a little more aerodynamic, and added the Civic lights! I think everyone is going with "slit" headlights now.... sad

I think I want one now. I was planning on either getting a five-door Fiesta or Fusion Sport AWD as my next daily driver in a couple of years... but I would totally be putting my money where my mouth is, and feeling really good about supporting a company and country I believe in. But I am really also liking Ford a lot lately too. I wish I was rich, so I can buy one from each... and snag a next-gen RX-? after they up the displacement to the 1.6L motor.

Ford is an acquired taste m8. The thing is, you rarely hear from them because they put their money into developing cars, not pushing ad campaigns. In Uni I had work attachments in the design studios of both companies. Lets just say that I'd take a lower paying job at Ford than a higher paying one at Holden.

Its a very different culture, and honestly IMO its a better company.

Doesn't look bad for a green car.
I wonder how it stops and turns. :/

I think its a pretty cool car too, but like you said awhile ago Millefune, what happens when the batteries can't be recharged any more? If it was some way of recycling them, that would be great.
