Quite honestly, it's very difficult to critique such a unique style. I'm envious of your wet-medium artistry and your creative detail to each of these pieces you put up thus far.
I only have questions really. Foods for thought as to what may be purposeful and/or unintentional mistake.
1a: I'm not sure what I'm looking at. Obviously it's two women in a cave. But my confusion is the blue part falling on them. Is it water? Or is it a giant crystalline stalactite forming around them? Or is it hair rising to the top? More definition may be the solution to any confusion.
1c: I really enjoy the colors. But are those shoes really practical? I'm not sure if you're a fashion design student or you intend to market the outfits but it seems the right foot (our left) would fall out of the shoe, there isn't much substance. But if you're designing for the sake of making unique and wonky outfits then by all means! Make all the unpractical shoes you wish. It's actually inspiring me to maybe try my own hand at designing new fashions.
Thanks so much for your kind words! And thanks for being honest. I really appreciate help from someone who isn't afraid to point out mistakes or concerns. Sometimes with family or friends, they tend to sugar-coat things, y'know?
I will definitely keep the definition tip in mind. The painting is actually two feet long, so the resize squished a lot of the detail out, but it probably does need some redefining. I have a difficult time judging what is "too much" or "too little". I'm always a little over-hesitant. Unfortunately, the finishing spray was applied to this one a long time ago. =/
Hmm, yes, the shoes. Well, I'm still getting the swing of fashion illustration (there are a few books on that I've been meaning to pick up), so I guess I didn't draw them as accurately as I should have.
Basically, they're a lot like those
shoes that are made up of the toe, the heel, and the outside wall, with nothing covering the inside where the arch is. The heel of the shoe curves up just enough to fit snugly, so your foot doesn't come flying out. Really, even if there were a piece covering the inside, it wouldn't serve much purpose, since it is the toe and the heel that does most of the work. I myself have very high arches, and that part of the shoe doesn't ever touch my foot enough to matter.
Well, sorry for the big, long explanation. I have a lot of work to do with my illustration so that there aren't any questions left to ask.
biggrin Thanks again for all your help!
