The leopardess had recently left the company of the jungle, picking her way from the lush tropics towards the desert regions. Her paws had travelled far from her original home, and she was fast certain that any trail her previous mate may have tracked was lost; surely he couldn't still be following her. . . . though the scars on her body were ugly, they were a reminder of his wrath and control. No. . . best to keep on the move and not dare look back. She couldn't linger long in one place else he catch up. . . .

So she had left good company and found herself back amongst the savannah. The desert was still far north of her, but already she missed the plushness of Kutakia's jungle; it had been a touch of paradise with its rich colour, its vast assortment of adventure and new creatures to discover, and the moisture and water was delicious. A shame she couldn't have lingered longer, but perhaps another visit could be worked out in due time.

For now, it was time to enjoy the beauty of the tall grasses and the flat plains. The late afternoon sunshine spoke of dusk; antelope and gazelle were grazing but ever wary; various prides of lions frequently hunted around dusk, when the worst of the afternoon heat waned. Thankfully, Uhuru had fed earlier, and wasn't in the mood to hunt.

It wasn't easy on her own, she was more of a scavenger recently than anything, but unless a golden opportunity reared its head she wasn't desperate enough to kill. Not yet at least. Trotting through the tall grasses, the leopardess spotted a good perch. A small tree rose out of the earth, its leaves still plush enough to cause shade and comfort. With a running leap, the leopardess easily made her way up in to the lowest limb, settling happily on the branch. It wasn't tall enough to offer her a great view, but it was high enough that many would leave her be.

Time to enjoy the sunset and watch the stars twinkle in the sky. Yes, she was frequently alone, but at the same time, she never was at all; nature provided everything she needed, from food to shelter to companionship and beauty. . . .

Who needed a mate when she had such gifts?

Aryaisha was in a great mood. The day was sunny and warm with a nice breeze to cool things down, he was not hungry nor thirsty, and he had nothing in particular he had to do. He was strolling through the tall, dry grasses of the savanna when he saw a small tree in the distance. He took a moment to contemplate it from a distance before deciding that it was to small to take his full weight so his half formed idea of working on his tree climbing skills, dissolved.

Letting his mind wander he started to hum softly while he drifted slowly across the grassland in a general direction of the tree. He saw small groups of animals in the distance but Ary had no real desire to head in that direction so he kept to his slow pace. Ary got so into the tune that he was humming that when he was just paces from the tree he busted out sing, "This is the song that never ends!" His horrible sinning startled a few birds into flight but that didn't really bother him. He continued to sing but it was more like a mumbling of the song that never ended, with indistinct mumblings when he could not think of the proper words.

While he was mumbling the song, badly might I add, he had arrived at the tree and flopped down in the sparse shade, not bothering to look up to see if the tree was already occupied.

The leopardess had been happily settled, enjoying the colours of dusk and the stretch of the evening shadows. The warm glow of orange and pinks were transforming in to deeper purples and blues of night. A few stars were starting to appear, speaking of the tranquility of night, when a voice cut through it all. Blinking, startled, Uhuru's ears pricked as she turned towards the source. A large maned feline was picking his way over to where she was perched in the tree; it was very much a lion and he very much had a poor singing voice. Still, he seemed to be in a pleasant enough mood with his strange song and happy tune; even if he hadn't the greatest voice, there was something jolly and good natured about such a vocal creature.

Amused, Uhuru watched quietly from her perch within the tree. The orange eyed male was going to pass right under her nose, and much to her amazement, flopped down in the shade directly below her. Well, well, well. . . . company and she hadn't even wished it! Not that the pale leopardess minded; she was a good companion to many, even if she tended not to stay in an area for long or make many lasting friendships.

Quiet for a few moments, allowing the brown furred male to settle, violet eyes sparkled with good humor. Clearing her throat lightly, her voice rang out and she added, "What a surprise! I didn't think I'd be serenaded on such a lovely evening as today. I am flattered, nonetheless," she teased, gazing down at Aryaisha with a smile.

Aryaisha was humming along with the tune in his head, mumbling the song when he knew the words, and was watching as night fell on the grasslands when a voice came from above. He let out a startled yelp, a sound he had not made in a very long time, and in a quick move was on his feet looking up at a leopardess, her pale fur making her seem to glow in the little light left of the day.

Quickly regaining his composure, Ary did a fancy bow and said in a very dramatic and overly masculine voice, "It was a divine pleasure to entertain on such as your self, Lady." As he came out of his foolishly fancy bow he grinned up at the female and said in his normal voice, "And I'm sorry to subject you to my horrible singing." he said sheepishly as a lock of his black main fell down into his eyes, giving him a roguish look. He tried to blow it away but it just didn't want to be shifted so Ary finally had to sit down and use his paw to try to get his unruly main out of his face and in some semblance of order. "And all the guys say girls spend too much time on their fur." He said in a bad attempt at a joke.

The leopardess was thoroughly bemused, her violet eyes bright with good humor. The poor lion. . . she hadn't meant to startle the fellow, though she could see why he had missed her obvious presence.

Her tail curled and flicked hypnotically from where it draped over the limb she rested upon. "Oh by all means, my fine sir," she cooed, "No apologies are necessary. It isn't often I find myself subject to a serenade, it was quite a fun surprise." So his voice lacked perfect pitch or harmony; Uhuru wasn't going to judge him. Too often felines of the savanna were uptight and shy; unwilling to let their voices sing freely and be heard. It was nice that one could let themselves go and give voice to their joy and good humor. Rather refreshing, to say the least.

Studying the lion before her, Uhuru watched as he pawed at his face, attempting to groom himself. Whomever this dark pelted stranger was, he was rather an unusual character. Amusing, but unusual. . . Still, it was good to have a spot of company and Uhuru always did enjoy meeting fellow rogues and strangers. "Well, all the guys you've spoken too must not have been lions. . . . I don't know how you boys fuss with all that fur." Giving a shake of her head, Uhuru grinned. "Short fur like mine is a nuisance . . .I can't imagine having as thick a mane as your own!"

Aryaisha was somewhat skeptical that this nice leopardess like his singing, while he enjoyed singing he was not oblivious to the fact that he couldn't carry a tune in a bucket. Rather then correct her he just smiled and took it as a complement, after all if she didn't mind it who was he to tell her that he stunk at sinning.

"Well short fur would look quite odd on me, don't you think?" He said in an amused way as he smiled up at the female. "Oh were are my manners! My name is Ary... Aryaisha. But most just call me Ary." He introduced himself while still looking up at the leopardess.

Uhuru grinned, bemused by this good-humored male. How long had it been since she met one who was content to poke fun at himself? Far too long, really. This lion was a refreshing change from some who looked upon her with mistrust or harbored holior-than-thou attitudes. She might only be a leopardess, but the cream female wouldn't have it any other way!

"I do believe you might look a bit strange to have your plush mane sheared." She paused a moment, tilting her head as she imagined the lion mane less. No, it wouldn't look proper on the male at all. . . "No, I do suggest you keep such a handsome mane. It's only fitting, after all, despite being a pain." Lavender eyes bright, Uhuru moved slightly, reaching out with her paws to give herself a stretch.

Taking in his name, commiting it to memory, Uhuru decided it was time to show her own form of manners. Leaping from the tree branch, she gave a slight yawn with another stretch before adding, "Tis a pleasure, Aryaisha." She would conver to his shorter name later, once they were more familiar. . .SHOULD they become more familiar. Dipping her head, she added, "I'm Uhuru." At least the poor male wouldn't have to strain his neck to converse with her.

"Well it is good that I am not the only one who would think I would look funny if I got a hair cut." Aryaisha said, then added after a moment, "Nor would I suggest a trim of your beautiful coat." For him, he wasn't sweet talking this pretty leopardess he was just telling what he saw. Her pale fur and spots accented her violet eyes quite nicely and for Ary, a lion who really found no physical ugliness in the world, he spoke true.

When she came down from her branch Ary couldn't help but watch appreciatively as she stretched the last few kinks from her system but when she yawned slightly Ary couldn't suppress the natural response and yawned as well, even though he was only tired in the remoteness sense.

"I do believe the pleasure is all mine Uhuru." He said. His mane, which was out of the way, swung down into his face again, making a face this time Ary just let it be since it seemed that it had a mind of its own.

((Sorry for the delay! :> And shortness. ))

The pale coated leopardess chuckled lightly at the lion, looking up at him and his disheveled mane. She couldn't image dealing with such a thick coat of fur around her neck and shoulders, especially in the savanna's miserable heat! It was hot enough with her pale coat, much less a mane and a dark one like his!

At his compliment over her coat, the leopardess gave a small chuckle and shake of her head. Her tail swished easily behind her, and she canted her head gingerly to the side. "It's much more lovely when it isn't covered in dust or scars," she added, glancing to her back and studying the thick gashes cooly. Though she accepted her wounds, her battle scars that spoke of the monsters within the hearts of many, she never would go back to where he might roam. . .

Nope. She ran . . and would run . . and would continue to roam until her dying day. There would be no one to slow her down. "So tell me, my fine sir, where might one be headed in this late hour?" The shadows of dusk were thick and ready to swallow the savanna whole; stars were beginning to twinkle above them and the leopardess always did enjoy gazing upon the little crystals so high above.

((its ok i know we all have lives, yeah and sorry about my short post as well))

Aryaisha felt that the comments about scars were more of a insider thing so when he said, "You know even with the scars you are lovely. After all the scars are a part of you, it doesn't mater if they are visible or not." he meant the truth and was not joking around at all. He had his own scars and most were not visible like Uhuru's.

"Where am I going? Every where and no where. I just love to roam and wonder, letting my paws take me where they will." Ary watched as the sun set. "So what is a pretty lady like yourself doing out here?"

Uhuru gave a small chuckle at the lion. Flattery could get one anywhere, or so the saying went and Uhuru could only shrug off the compliment. Still, the lion did seem to be sincere in his words and she didn't want to insult him by her laugh. Lavender eyes twinkled as she added, "I appreciate the compliment, truly. But the scars only serve to remind me of my biggest regret." What would he life be like if she had never met him?

. . . . honestly, the leopard couldn't say but at least she was wiser and less a fool. A fool still, certainly, but less of one at any rate. Never again would a male make her a ragdoll. Never again would he life be ruled by another.

"Well then you and I have much in common, my good sir." She quipped, "You are in like company as I often roam and can't seem to stay in one area for long. I'm out here enjoying the sunset, as I often do. It's beauty is mesmerizing and is a show that too many take for granted." Some often scoffed and mocked her love of nature's beauty, but she didn't care - it was her own love and if those out there chose to ignore it than so be it. It was their loss. . . .

"Ah but regrets and mistakes are what build us up to who we are today. And by at least seeing the scars you will never make those mistakes again." Ary thought of all the years he acted like a fuddy duddy and swore once again that he would do his best to never act like that. Even though he did not have the physical scars to remind him, his mental ones would do a good enough job.

Ary smiled, 'good sir' was not something he was called often. Not because he was bad but because most that he talk to just don't think that way. As Uhuru spoke of the sunset Ary turned to face it. "I know what you mean, the sunset and the sunrise are such individual shows that it is a pity to miss even one. Although I will admit that I do miss the occasional one since sleep does call deeply sometimes." The lion watched in silence as the sun sank farther and farther reviling the sparking diamonds that hid during the day. "But I never miss a sunset and the curtain of stars that follow." He added quietly.

Uhuru listened to the lion, conceding that he was right. The scars that littered her body had been made under a foolish choice with the wrong sort of leopard. Some thought that love conquered all, but instead Uhuru had learned that love had very little to do with anything or anyone. Any male could be charming and kind, but sometimes that sweetness just hid the darkness of another. . .

That's what her scars reminded her of. Daily. To keep running, to keep fighting, and to keep herself as detached from relationships and men as possible.

Chuckling lightly as the lion admitted to the beauty of nature, albeit missing some morning glories, the violet eyed female nodded. "Of course even I miss a showing now and again. Those sunrises, as beautiful as they are, can come at an awfully early hour! I suppose that also helps me to appreciate them more when I do get to see them," she added with a nod.

Honestly, Uhuru had no qualms about another who didn't love nature as much as she. Her passion was a little strange, a little odd, but it certainly wasn't something she expected another to understand or even appreciate. Some people just didn't notice nature the way she did. . but. . then again. . . most creatures were settled in one place, were never on the run, and had other things to notice and care for, such as cubs and family.

Not Uhuru. She lived with her shadow, and nature was her only true companion. "It's nice to speak with another who can appreciate nature for what it offers. So I thank you for that."

Ary smiled, he got her to laugh especially after the likely dark thoughts of the origin of her scars. He kept his mind on the current conversation, sunrises and sunsets. "When one only sees something so beautiful only so often it does make sense that it is appreciated that much more. Things like sunsets and sunrises are something that those who can really see truly appreciate because they understand that while such beauty is in the world it is not always so visible or so permanent."

In a flash of memory Ary remembered his mother's smile which to him was just as precious and beautiful as the sunset he was currently watching except it was something he would never see again. The brown lion's smile was slightly sad but it didn't last long, being sad was just not something he was going to focus on. He glanced at Uhuru when she spoke. "No thanks necessary since I enjoyed talking with you as well." Ary watched as the last of the sun set and the night deepened. With a sigh Ary spoke once again, "I guess it is time to move on since the night is not getting any younger and I am sure you have better things to do then to talk with a lion like me." He didn't really want to go sine he enjoyed talking with Uhuru but nor was he about to impose on her any longer, it was her tree after all, at least for right then.
