It was not unusual for a candidate to be assigned a particular set of chores once they had proven capable and responsible. When it came to things like sewing, handling special laundry items, cooking, and cleaning ranking rider weyrs and public areas... trustworthy workers were usually sought out and groomed for their jobs. The myriad other tasks were better off being rotated out, or at least, that was how it was supposed to be. No one person wanted to consistently clean the latrines, for instance, and certainly no one wanted to be assigned the onerous task of emptying and restocking the bin for rags and clean towels kept stocked by the waterfall/lake area for dragonriders who bathed their dragons there. Rotation made sure the job got done, rather then tossed to the wayside by youngsters who felt much put upon for drawing the same smelly chore over and over...
...and Alle would know how the last felt!
Three times in the past few sevenday she had been assigned the task of emptying that dratted bin by the water, and each time she had muddled through it with a sore back and aching arms to look forward too. Today was going to be no different, though early estimates showed some promise in the arm department. Maybe she was getting a little stronger?
Whatever the case was, Allende was just getting back to the waterside with a basket full of clean linens when she noticed quite a few of the newest Weyrlings were out and about. Lunch had come and gone for her hours ago, and while she wasn't exactly hungry (in the food sense) she had missed the chance to socialize a bit. Still, she wasn't entirely comfortable with the idea of striking up a conversation with people she didn't know, especially with those with which she had so little in common; but nor could she ignore the desire to try anyway.
Sharding indecision!

Upon arriving at the Weyr, Saeryan had been pleased to meet up with an old friend and dragonrider, Ash'ran. They'd known each other as kids and youngsters at Sea Cliff hold. He was just a smidge older then her, and perhaps a bit wiser as of late, but she felt right at home in his presence. It was a taste of the familiar amongst everything new.
As often as her tasks in the kitchen had allowed her, she grilled him with questions about being a rider, what it was like to have a dragon. Every possible question she could possibly conceive of, she'd asked Ash at one point or another. And she was all too happy to take him up on his offer of an outing, excited for the opportunity he proposed, as well as the chance to ask him a few more questions that she'd thought up recently. Saeryan knew it would only bee a matter of time that she would annoy the snot out of him, but until then, she was going to find out as much as she could in the meantime.
Ash had given her the job of collecting some meat scraps from the kitchen to take with them on their venture and she hadn't let him down. A pair of pouches full of scraps lay in front of her as she lounged at waterside. Adept fingers cleaned the scraps of any last bits of bone or clings of skin. When asked what she had wanted the scraps for, she'd dutifully explained that she was going out with a friend and would need some in case they got hungry. She'd collected a few scraps of dried meat for themselves, as well as the inedible bits stripped from carcasses before the cooks set to preparing them for the meals. She'd done her best and done her part, and now it was up to him to lead on.
But, not before a few questions were asked, first.
"So Ash'ran," a snicker slipped past her lips before she continued. "I have been meaning to ask you for quite some time, and didn't quite know how to put it. What is it like to have someone in your mind all the time? To have them know your thoughts? Can he," she glanced up and nudged her chin towards his dragon, "hear even the stuff you don't want anyone to hear in there?" She was quite fond of her friend's dragon, and didn't mean anything by her exclusion of him in the question at hand. Quickly thinking on this, she giggled and added, "And Tanith, what interesting things have you encountered Ash thinking of? Anything embarrassing I can use against him?" Saer had to try at least, even if Ash was unlikely to reveal anything said.
