I'm having a hard time believing it myself, but it all adds up. Look at these maps. Spira: Gaia: Spira resembles the Northern and Eastern continents of Gaia fused together, which is one of the reasons I believe they could be the same world from different times. In addition, there are words that have similar meaning in each one. I'll put these words in a format of Spira/Gaia. Sphere/Materia Guado/Cetra Pyreflies/Spirit energy Farplane/Lifestream (If you think of any other terms, feel free to post them.) Aside from this, there are other things that make them similar, though I'm not sure if I know all of them... Now, feel free to post your thoughts on all this.

It's actually juat a very far-fetched idea. Nothing really contributes to the idea besides some similarities. There is way more land in Gaia though, and I refuse to believe an entire continent was spirited away and/or created. (depending on timeframe)
Square just likes to use similar themes and things. They also love to reference themselves in their games.
Any hype over this is plain fan-dreams. =/

Yeah, I don't know how valid that statement is, but I definitely know the feeling of wanting to connect the games. I love finding references from on game inside another. Square definitely does like to reference itself, and reoccuring things are definitely not unheard of within the series.

I don't speak Japanese, but if I can trust the pictures there, it seems pretty definitive. So basically, they had an idea that it's the same world, but it's not canon? I guess that's all I can say on the matter; the link speaks for itself...

Didn't they all ready release a statement saying FFX is the past of FFVII? I seem to remember something about Spira and Gaia not being the same world, though (although, maybe I'm wrong). Another good indicator? In FFX-2, that invention kid Shinra discovers a power source deep inside the earth that comes from the planet itself. Can you say, lifestream? EDIT: Lol, found it. It's in a section called something like plot related connection. It states that the worlds are connected, although not the same planet.

Lol, no problem. I hate it so much when people are all, 'oh, they said it was true but I have no proof'. I always have a really hard time believing them, even I know them personally.

I think that really it isn't really that much of the truth, because I say that It's named similarly but the maps are totally diferent.

Ah, what I mean is it's a naturally occuring, like lifestream.
...on a totally different note, I read a pretty good fic a while ago that was basically this idea, that Gaia and Spira are one and the same.

You cannot say you read a good fic and not post a link... or at least give a half-decent excuse as to why you do not post the link. It's not ALLOWED.

Da-daaa~ I really like this story. It won a Genesis award, if I remember correctly (or was it just nominated? I can't remember). This author writes all sorts of good things. Most of his stuff is epic, long chapter fics, though.
