Aliana laid her head down by the river side, her eyes closed. The sun was strangely absent that day, making the world an almost boring grey. Her pink colouring stood out against the green of the grass, but her usually bright colours were dull from the lack of sunshine.
A rush of air left her lungs in a sigh, her eyes opening to reveal a pale silver gaze. Flicking her tail in irritation at her lack of anything to do, she turned her attention towards the river. Fish swam just below the surface. Keeping her eyes on one particularly large fish, she contemplated attempting to catch it. Shuffling closer to the edge, she gazed down, several fish disappearing into reeds to avoid her gaze.
Huffing as her prey disappeared also, she laid her head back down and scowled. Why wasn't there anything interesting to do?

Step after step, the violet helix made his way down an unbeaten path. A light hum filled the air around him, as his tail swished in time to the beat. Light grey eyes glanced up at the sun-absent sky. It was a change from the normal, it seemed unique for today. Perhaps, something unique would happen to him..
Grinning to himself happily, the violet helix continued along his path. Emotions welled up inside of him, until the song was let loose. "Grey sky, grey sky, the color of mine eyes. What awaits me, surely a surprise?" Fain smiled happily to himself, liking the start of the verse. "So dank and sullen, I do not fear. The sun's shine will soon appear."
The helix bounced slightly in his step happily. Yes, that sounded good. He sniffed slightly, the scent of water hitting his nose. Another scent hit his senses, making the male's tail sway. Another's company was always warming! So was the sun, though it was absent today...
No matter! Humming delightfully, the helix quickened his step towards the scent of water.

Aliana stared up at the sky as she rolled onto her back. It was usually the position of submission, or if cloudgazing. This time, it was neither. It was a stupid position to be in for a lone helix, as it was very vulnerable, but Aliana was bored and staring at the sky seemed the most interesting thing she could think of. It was impossible to cloudgaze, the clouds were merging together, though, if she squinted, she could almost see the outline of the sun behind the clouds. Huffing, she rolled back onto her side, staring into the forest.
Her ears perked up when she heard something strange. A...song? Who on earth could be singing? What helix actually sung? It was a silly pass time, surely. She could only hear a softer version of it, and only if she strained her ears to hear. Rolling onto her stomach, she raised herself up to her feet. She still stood beside the river, gazing into the forest trying to locate that origin of that odd song, when it started to die down and it was soon quiet again.
It was then that Aliana caught the scent of a male helix. Had he been singing? she thought, feeling rather incredulous. No, she corrected herself, it couldn't have been. Males don't sing.

Fain smiled lightly as the branches and brush swept against his fur, having traveled a bit off the beaten path. It's where the most adventures lie, was it not? He hummed softly as he walked, smiling as the brush began to separate to reveal a bit more walking room.
Ah, it was time for a change of tune!
"Tell everybody, I'm on my way! New friends and new places to see," The violet helix swayed slightly in time with his own rhythm, unable to keep from smiling. "With blue skies ahead, yes I'm on my way." His sister always liked this song. She always thought it had fit him.. And he couldn't have agreed more! "And there's no where else I'd rather be~!"
Breaking through the foliage, he shook the leaves from his violet fur. He was about to go into the second chorus, when something caught his attention. A pretty female helix was standing close to the river. Her fur was a light shade of pink, but the colors most likely thrived best when enveloped in sunlight. Fain gave a friendly smile, approaching the new helix happily. "Hello! Are you enjoying the day?"

Aliana's ears were perked up, whoever it was was singing again and by now she could detect that it was a masculine voice. So it was a male that was singing. Aliana hadn't ever met a musical helix of either gender but had always thought singing to be a feminine trait.
Peering at the forests edge, she blinked in surprise when the male helix appeared through the foliage, shaking off his fur...his purple...fur. At least it was a pretty colour, she thought somewhat distractedly as he the male turned to her. The friendly smile was a bit of a shock, though not unpleasantly. Most Helixes had already learnt to dislike her for her attitude.
“Hello,” she returned the greeting somewhat cautiously as he approached. He was a welcome distraction through. “How can I be enjoying the day, the worlds such an ugly grey,” she replied, wincing at her unintentional rhyme, adding, “from the clouds,” to try and ruin the rhyme. She tilted her head to the side, silver eyes curious. “Why were you singing?”

Fain continued his casual approach, listening lightly to her voice as she talked. Careful, yet it seemed he wasn't unwelcome. He seemed to brighten at the unintentional rhyme, though only smiled as she attempted to cover it up.
"Why, today is unique in it's own special way. The land around is grey; making for a special day." He flicked an ear playfully at the rhyming, letting it easily roll off his tongue.
However, the purple helix seemed to pause at her question. In fact, he almost looked perplexed for the moment, but it soon passed. "I sing because I am." Fain smiled, though continued off the strange answer. "The reason why the birds fly, and water runs. It's in me to do so."
Blinking, the violet helix shook his head lightly, and sent the pink female a sheepish smile. "My sincerest apologies, it seems I've forgotten my manners. My name is Fain. May I know the name of my lovely companion of this unique day?"

Aliana stifled a wince at the males rhyme, despite how happy he seemed to be with it. “Why is today a special day when it's so overcast and cloudy?” She said, resisting the urge to rhyme. Aliana had never thought herself to be a musical helix or even to really enjoy music or song, so she felt no need to rhyme like he was.
Aliana tilted her head to the side, looking confused at his confusion, then becoming even more so after his answer. “Birds fly because of their wings and that's how the gods made them, do you really think you were made to sing?” She said, sounding skeptical.
Shifting in embarrassment as he called her lovely, she looked a little uncomfortable. She doubted he'd meant it though, so she simply straightened herself, hoping he hadn't notice her discomfort. “Nice to meet you, Fain,” she replied out of politeness, “my name is Aliana,” she added.

Fain's tail swished back and forth slowly, showing the constant happiness. He seemed to live in his own little world. "Because it's a change from the ordinary, sunny days! Therefor, it's unique." He broke his rhyming meter, though his normal speaking voice allowed the musical lilt of his singing voice to shine more, running smoothly with his words.
At her skeptical question, he seemed undeterred. If anything, it seemed her skepticism made him happier. "I do!" The violet helix beamed good-naturedly at her. "Why else would I need to sing?"
He stood a respectable distance away, though the friendly smile had yet to be removed. A small part of his perked at the slight change in her demeanor, making him curious. Was it because of him? However, it seemed gone as quickly as it had appeared. At the returned introduction, his tail wagged a bit more. "A pleasure to meet you, also, Aliana! A name befitting it's bearer, poetry really."

Aliana crinkled her nose a little at his words, though she had to admit his speaking voice was just as nice as his singing one, which had a captivating tone to it. “But cloudy days are still common, they’re not that unique,” she said, trying to dissuade him from what she believed was a silly notion, “now snow would be unique,” she mused, thinking of the times she had gone close enough to the northern border to see the snow falling. She hadn’t ventured in, mostly because of the stories her mother had told her.
“You think you were made to sing?” She said, sounding if possible, even more skeptical then before. “Really, that’s just silly,” she said, almost without thinking. Realizing that it might have sounded mean, she shifted in embarrassment. “I mean, you must have been made for something more then just singing right, singing can’t be your whole lifes purpose.” She shut her mouth quickly after discovering she had, in fact, been rambling.
His further compliments seem to discomfort her more. She wasn’t use to this type of friendly behaviour, usually she was greeted with suspicion and dislike after her temper came out. “It’s not that fitting,” she protested, “It means soothing grace or something like that.” She shook her head, showing her dislike of the name. Adding, almost as an afterthought, “I like your name though, it suits you.”

Fain smiled, glancing up at the cloudy, grey sky. "Snow is unique." He agreed softly, returning his attention back to Aliana. "Not quite water, not quite solid. But happily finds it's place with the rest of the world, a soprano among tenors."
However, silver eyes blinked slightly at her following remark. Though he just grinned, tail swaying. "Perhaps. Or perhaps not." He hummed out a soft note, making his ears p***k up as the breeze touched them. A light smile adorned his face at her light rambling, and a small chuckle arose from him.
Her growing discomfort didn't go by undetected. "Nonsense!" He smiled lightly, sitting back on his haunches. His violet tail curling loosely on the ground. "I feel very soothed while talking to you. That counts, does it not?" Truth be told, he hadn't been as aware that he was so weary from traveling unti he had sat down. "I thank you, my cordial companion. My mother named me correctly, did she not?" Fain smiled at Aliana happily, his ear twitching in a half-comedic fashion. " 'Happy, or joyous'. "

Aliana stared at him in slight confusion at his words about snow. His remarks went over her head, having never heard of soprano or tenors . “It’s just snow though,” she muttered, looking slightly bemused. “Have you ever been to the north? They have it as whole landscapes.” Her eyes lit up at the thought of someday traveling to see it, unfortunately, Aliana hated being cold, so the north was simply a dream. She tilted her head to the side as he grinned at her, knowing he had caught her ramblings. She looked off, purposely not looking at him now. “Living only to sing would be a boring life,” she said offhandedly.
“Now that is nonsense,” she retorted, watching him sit down. “No one is soothed with talking to me.” She shook her head, most people simply got aggravated talking to her. Aliana laughed softly at the meaning of his name, it was a quiet sound that was obviously rarely used, it seemed almost out of place coming from the pink and white helix. “She named you perfectly.” The helix seemed to be permanently stuck in ‘happy’ mode, she wondered if he ever got angry.

Fain smiled to himself. Anything could be great, if one thought about it. However, he just smiled wider at her question. "To the north? No, I haven't.. Always wanted to. However, I tend to travel south and east when I wander." He paused, looking a little puzzled. "Not quite sure why, however."
The violet male paused once more at her retort, curious how she didn't look at him.. "Do you really believe so?" He leaned forward, to peer at her slightly. An amused grin drifted onto his face. "I don't see why you would look away, if you didn't believe your own words." He teased lightly, before sitting back.
His ears perked up at her retort, but at her laugh... Fain smiled lightly, his head falling to the side lightly. "Your laugh is very soothing, Aliana." He smiled, and hummed a light note under his breath. However, he grinned brightly at the compliment. "Thank you!"

Aliana tilted her head to the side, looking at him a little bemused at his puzzlement. “Maybe you just like warmer climates? I don't mind the cold but I like the south, I must admit.” She said, shifting as she thought of Spectrum and the two secrets in the south with him. Sighing, she shifted again.
Aliana continued to stare at something into the distance as he tried to look at her, his grin aggravating her slightly. “I do believe what I say!” She muttered, glancing back to give him an unamused look, “I just knew that you won't believe it.”
Sniffing and giving him a strange look, “my laugh? Yeah right.” She shook her head, she rarely laughed, which would seem like a foreign concept to such a happy helix like Fain. “You're welcome,” she added as he thanked her for the compliment, watching his bright smile curiously. She'd never met anyone who smiled as much as him.

Fain smiled, nodding in response. "It's true, I do like warmer climates. Though, it might be worth it to travel there once. If only to say I've done it." His ears perked at her sigh, his head twitching to the side slightly. If he noticed any change, he didn't say anything.
The violet helix shifted to try and glance at her face, his grin still in place. The look he received made him beam, his tail wagging slightly. "Perhaps you ought to try it, at least once?" Though he had a feeling Aliana might not go for it, it was worth a try, right? "I bet you have a lovely singing voice."
His ears twitched back, to lay against his skull for a moment. Her laugh was nice--he was soothed, if that had any say in it. But his ears perked up at hearing her following comment, smiling back.
It was odd that he stuck around like this. While he was a personable helix, he drifted with the wind, and didn't often stick around in one place too much. But, Fain was more then willing to admit, this meeting with the serious and lovely lady Aliana was pleasant. That, and she had to yet chase him off. Perhaps he ought to at least atch her dinner, for that regard?

Aliana scanned Fain, then shook her head, “My mother used to tell me it was dangerous to travel to the north alone, the helixes there tend to be a bit desperate there. A nice helix like you would be eaten alive there,” she snorted, thinking of Fain getting into a fight, which was a hard thing to imagine. He didn't seem like the violent type. “Remember to travel in groups if you go up north,” she added, mimicking what her mother had told her.
Looking horrified at his suggestion, she hastily shook her head, backing up a step as though he could force her to sing. “Of course not! That would be ridiculous, I doubt I could carry a tune if my life depended on it,” she huffed, looking uncomfortable. She had never sung before, or been sang to. “Your voice is just naturally lyrical, so you have no problem with singing. Not everyone can.”
There was something about Fain which kept Aliana standing there. She told herself it was boredom but he just had a personality that made people like him and like to be around him. Plus, he was a lot more interesting then staring into the lake where the fishes were hiding.
