Well, the way I see it is that...
our bodies are in fact, not ours, but shells given to us by God to house our spirits in. So, God never intended for us to pleasure ourselves, but to have pleasure with our spouses after marriage. I just believe that it was intended for our partners, and that we shouldn't defile ourselves, even though the temptation is sometimes almost irresitably strong. What you might want to do is pray with your friend about it - about having clean thoughts and keeping himself pure until marriage. I know it sounds kind of strange, but in a way, masturbation is losing your virginity, even if it's to yourself.
I really hope this helped you out. smile

It's not so much the act itself that is wrong- in fact it's probably about as healthy as you can get. It's the impure thoughts that go along with it that is the sin. Encourage your friend to stay away from things that may tempt him to thinking dirty thoughts, or to start praying or reading the Bible when he feels his mind is straying. If his mind stays out of the gutter, chances are he won't have the urge to masturbate. heart

I don't believe it to be a known sin. "Don't you know that you yourself are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him; for God's temple is sacred, and you are that temple" (1 Corinthians 3:16-17)
His body is God's temple. Treat it that way. Tell him if he has temptations to do this. Pray to God. Have him has God to rid him of this desire. Why masturbate when you can talk to God instead or read the bible instead.

no, masterbation is not a sin.
The lust inherent of masterbation, however, is.

Cometh The Inquisitor no, masterbation is not a sin. The lust inherent of masterbation, however, is. this is true. the actual act of masturbating is actually healthy(if you dont masterbate, its going to come out in a "wet dream" anyways, so you might as well get it out when you can clean it up). the sinful part of it comes in when you start fantazising(sp) during the act of. if you masterbate with out the bad thoughts, it is not sinful at all.

You guys are starting to sound like, "Well, if you touch the fire, but you don't get burned, then you'll be all right."

I have been told that masterbation is not a sin. But the impure thoughts that run through a persons mind are sin. So masterbation is kinda like a medium to the sin

Gambol You guys are starting to sound like, "Well, if you touch the fire, but you don't get burned, then you'll be all right." But masterbation is not 'the fire'. Lust is.

What about Ezekiel 28? It states that men (and women) who discharge is unclean until he/she washes the contaminated clothes and until later in the evening (something like that); and goes on to state that people who touch it becomes unclean themselves. What's this about...? neutral

Cometh The Inquisitor it also says that if you eat shrimp you are unclean. or shave. or wear cloths of two different fibers. or alot of things like that. THat whole 'clean/unclean' thing went out with the Cross. Agreed. Most (if not all) of the symbolic laws of concerning cleanliness and sacrifice were in regards to one of two things. They were either a) symbolic of holiness obtained by absolute purity (which is obviously impossible), or b) symbolic of the set-apartness of the Jews from the Gentiles. Both ideas were eliminated in the New Testament with a) Christ's perfect life and sacrificial death and our justification through Him, and b) the spreading of the Word to the Gentiles, respectively. Unfortunately for some, that means that the moral laws in the Old Testament are still in place. But "discharge" falls under cleanliness. Is a woman's monthly period a sin??? Of course not. Neither is the bodily function of emitting other types of discharge as well, male or female. But if one cannot separate lust from the equation: Matthew 5:28 I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
because Matthew 5:30 . . .if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.Hey, babies/ toddlers/ young adults/ adults do it without lusting. It's obviously not a sin in and of itself. But lust drives it probably 99.9999% of the time.

The bible does not come out directly and say "HOMGoooosh! Masturbation=SIN!!!!!" However, it does point out the deceptive nature of desire.
James 1:14-15 but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
God did not intend for us to seek pleasure in ourselves. Instead we are called to wait for marriage to seek it from a spouse. Sex is not a bad thing. Why would God have created it in such an enjoyable manner if He did not want us enjoying it? However, with something as powerful as this, it is important to follow His purpose for it.

What's this about...? neutral It just means that when you dicharge after masterbation or other sexual acts you are unclean and anyone who touches you is unclean also. You will be unclean till you wash with water meaning take a shower.Lol. But do not worry you will be clean again that evening when the sun is set.
